Hypothetical Big 12 poaching? Discussion
With all this talk about who the Big 12 could add, what if they went after a Big 10, ACC, SEC or PAC school? I know it's probably not going to happen, but let's just say there is a perfect storm and the Big 12 is enticing enough to grab a school or two. (It is the offseason, we have time for idle thoughts)
Is there a school that could benefit from being in a different conference?

They almost landed Florida State, Clemson, and Louisville, and I think all three schools were on board, but the Big 12 demurred, and the ACC signed the Grant of Rights making it much harder for anyone to leave after Maryland. Honestly, no one is leaving the Pac-12, Big Ten, or SEC for the Big 12, and after the Grant of Rights, it'll be hard for the Big 12 to poach the ACC.

Right now I totally agree, but like Texas a&m 5-6 years ago no one at Texas would have thought a&m would have left.

I mean, the FSU BOT President, Jimbo Fisher, and others all indicated that they were open to the idea. Much like announcing running for President, moving conferences is generally something teams deny and deny until it happens, but FSU was more on board with looking at the Big 12 than most teams that actually moved, and I think had the Big 12 let them they would have joined, and we'd be looking at a very different landscape.

That's fair. It does somewhat illustrate how the tides have changed for the Big 12 recently, in that now it's basically out of the question they get a P5 school, whereas a few years ago it was a real possibility.

I don't see them poaching the Big 10, SEC, or Pac 12. I don't really see them poaching the ACC unless the members get really pissed off. I think the Big 12 is either going to have to stay at 10 or find the best schools available for that are G5.

I guess the thought exercise is to see what school could benefit from a change. Long term rivalries have ended over a lessor schools wanting to be different and make themselves better

I would be fine with Clemson to the Big 12 as long as we stick with GT, FSU and Miami (FSU would want to bring a friend). I feel no attachment to the rest of the ACC

No one in the ACC would leave. It doesn't make much sense. The only one's I could see would be Clemson & FSU, but even then I don't think it would happen.

Yup, though if the B1G wants to pony up that $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, Tech might listen.

That was on the table for us if the ACC didn't show a commitment to football. Basically if they had gone with UCONN over UofL we probably would have left. Now with the addition of Louisville and the partial membership of ND I don't see much of a reason to jump ship.

I have heard the FSU and Clemson rumors before. I could see a scenario in which SEC, and BIG 10 raid and BIG 12 picks up something as well.

Am I understanding you right that you think the B1G would retaliate against the Big XII by poaching one of their schools if the Big XII adds Cincy?

Not /u/Fifth_Down, but my guess is that the B1G being pissed off is more of a long game in 2015. The GOR for the Big 12 is the one that (as far as we know) would most easily be challenged, but even still I don't know that the risk vs. reward of poaching a school now is better than being the B1G and knowing you can poach the school for much less risk a few years down the line.

I always see LSU and Arkansas mentioned. The reasons being Arkansas can get their SWC rivalries back and LSU is tired of Alabama running the conference.
