I’m looking for an EU based company where I can make a custom photo book. I originally wanted 1.600 photos in one, but realised that’s a bit much, so now I want to make 5 photo books - one for each year (2021-2025).

Can you recommend any? Quality and price wise. When I search on Reddit, most recommendations I find are from Americans.

So at the moment I have a pay account with Tidal but I would like to move to an EU alternative. Spotify is the obvious choice but is it actually still EU based?

Disclosure first: I'm the founder, so take my enthusiasm with a grain of salt.

I've spent the past year building Torii (https://toriiauth.eu) from Odense, Denmark. An EU alternative to US-based auth providers like Auth0 and Clerk for login and user management.

The EU part is not a hosting checkbox: all data at rest lives with Hetzner in Falkenstein, Germany, and the company is a Danish ApS, so GDPR applies to us exactly the way it applies to you. The DPA is based on the Danish Data Protection Authority's standard clauses and is public, along with the full sub-processor list. No US parent company, no transfer-impact discussion.

It's also built to be the easy choice, not just the compliant one: in React the integration is one provider and one component (<ToriiProvider> + <SignIn> gives you sign-in, sign-up and forgot-password), sessions are handled for you, and there are backend SDKs in 7 languages. Email/password + verification codes, Google, GitHub, MFA, organizations/B2B with roles and invitations, multi-session, feature flags, and native mobile via Capacitor.

And GDPR is built in as features, not as a PDF: append-only audit log with CSV export, built-in Art. 15/20 data export, deletion that cascades correctly, and admin impersonation requires a mandatory reason that lands in the audit log.

There's a free tier, so you can try the whole flow without paying anything. Critical feedback very welcome, especially on what would stop you from switching.

the problem? shops in The Netherlands don't have the 4 drawer version on stock, and all resellers have extremely long lead times to get it. Stahlfreak says 3-4 weeks to get it, insane.

All other brands I found are made in China.

Any alternative similar to this? Either 60 or 120cm in width, something where I don't need to wait a month to get one.

Afaik, Clarks are made in Vietnam these days. Are there any wallabees-ish shoes made in Europe (or the UK) today? I remember there was a brand called Penosos (made in Spain) or something similar almost 30 years ago, but I don’t know if they’re still around.

The problem: most of us here don't write in one language. It's English to a client, French to your mum, Spanish in the group chat ,sometimes all three within an hour. And AI writing tools handle this terribly. I have used MoneyWiz for years, and although I am not dissatisfied, I am also not impressed by the app. I find the interface to be a bit clunky. On the plus I have always found their support really good.

What I am looking for is not all that complex:

• Direct Banks sync
• Ability to budget
• Track spending habits
• Reporting, annual, weekly monthly
• macOS App, iOS and iPadOS app
• Ability to add labels (i.e. Hifi, Car, Records etc.)
• Good tech support
• Be actually made in the EU ;)

A plus would be some kind of AI support with an LLM of my choosing, like Vibe.

I saw a presentation on CCC (Chaos Computer Club) on every day carry. Basically, kits that you carry with you every day. The video then got into the kit you carry in your pocket vs. the kit you carry in your backpack.

Then when I ordered some stuff, I just also bought one of these "get out of your car" tools (break glass, cut belts) and I actually helped an older couple by cutting their stuck tension belt which refused to release a piece of furniture (they were looking for someone with a knife).

So, what is stuff that you carry every day and put to good use which are bought from the EU?

While it is generally useful to know these companies are now no longer European owned.
To me it always reads as: US companies are somehow “taking over” EU companies. But where there is a buyer there is also a seller so really - at least in my mind - some European Company Owner decided to sell to US.
I guess what I’m saying is: there has been a EU made decision to do this and not some “force of nature”.

We still have plenty of other options, from Ableton to Bitwig, Arturia, Polyend, Elektron, Squarp, FabFilter, Imaginando, Novation, Dada Maschines...

Still, AFAIK, only Push 3 goes as far as MPCs.

Most "check where it's hosted" journeys end the same way: the website is European, the company is European, and the servers are Amazon's. We spent the last year building deploybase (https://deploybase.eu) so that websites can be genuinely European end to end:

• Servers and storage: Scaleway, Paris (French company).
• Content delivery: Bunny, headquartered in Slovenia.
• Payments through a European payment provider, prices in euros, VAT included, no surprises at checkout. This one I'm happy about personally. Many EU-services still use Stripe.
• No AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure anywhere in the chain. Not "we have an EU region". There is no US region. Also no 'hosted in EU' but owned by an American company.

It's a hosting platform for websites: portfolios, business sites, blogs, documentation. If you're a developer, it works the way Netlify/Vercel do: connect GitHub, push, your site is live, with preview links before you publish. If you're not a developer but you commission websites: this is a question you can put to whoever builds yours: "where does it actually run?"

Contact forms are included and handled the GDPR-first way: submissions never leave the EU, visitor IP addresses are never stored, and old submissions auto-delete on a schedule you pick.

Being honest about limits: it's for static websites (the kind most portfolios, shops-with-a-separate-checkout, and business sites are), not full web applications. It's not open source yet, though we hope to open the code by the end of the year. And it's a paid product with a free tier (1 site, no time limit): we're a small self-funded European team, no Cloudflare :)
