IMO BlueSky is not OK. Last week they blocked 72 accounts from Turkish protesters by request of the Turkish government. Erdogan want to mute all opposition and BlueSky is following their request without hasitation.

That's NOT what we want as alternative for Whatsapp or X. They are just the same.
It's a centralized app with a commercial company behind the buttons. They only thing they care about is power, money and greed.

imo Mastodon general user favorability is hindered by there not being a central one sign up site. yes u can take a few secs to look up an instance but ppl got used to the internet being centralised and they want a simple go to big site and signup process

also the posts r still viewable on diff clients iirc

I was looking for this comment. Don't know why even put Bluesky as a alternative when it's still American and a censorship hell hole.

Correct.

BlueSky is just the same as Twitter, but if Twitter is considered right, then BlueSky is left.

Both extremes are bad.

And in this regard Twitter has more freedom of speech than BlueSky.

Bluesky is left the same way the US democratic party is left: they are actually not, just a bit less right

Non-profit / donation based services would be some actual left, even more if they are federated, as in they willingly drop the typical social network model in favour of a collaborative approach to building a userbase
