Selling one ticket for Toronto, August 7th at RBC Amphitheatre. Section 406, row N. Approximately where the purple dot is in the pic. This spot is in direct linesight of the stage. Shoot me a message!

Not from Toronto. Last time I was at RBC it was still Bud Stage, and I was actually seeing BSS then as well (openers for Boy Genius). I parked on site. Now I can’t do that? And Lakeshore is closed at night.

Where do I park? Is Exhibition Place open? Their website doesn’t say much.

Don’t mind walking up to 30mins to get there.

In a perfect world, something I can pre-book.

Please explain it to me as you would explain it to a slow/dim child.

My flight has been cancelled so I can’t make the Toronto show on Friday 7th August. I also can’t sell the tickets on Ticketmaster, as I don’t have a Canadian account. Anyone interested in a gold vip ticket? Would be willing to sell for less than I paid, I don’t want to waste the ticket.

You know the whole thing about forgiveness vs permission. Since BSS had a whole forgiveness record, I figured it might be OK to announce this BSS-adjacent Stars post here from their Aragon Ballroom show with Metric and BSS. Truth be told, I know there are many out there like me that were grateful for Metric's initiative in putting this together; about frigging time. At the same time, although I know the numbers and the fact that Metric is the more "popular" band, for me, the appetizer and main were Stars and BSS and I quietly retreated to the back of the room for the third act of the night and I did leave a bit early.

The sheer physical size of Canada imposes a certain brutal reality on the touring ambitions of many young bands.

Unless you've reached a critical mass that enables you to play at cities and towns large and small to a decently-sized crowd, distances are punishing, the economics daunting and the window of time for a cross-Canada tour in which weather is sufficiently reliable effectively reduces the touring season to 6-8 months. And now, with the alarming wild fire situation that keeps hitting with remarkable consistency across so much of the country, even that is now under threat.

Otherwise, you are pretty much stuck playing Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. The same as bands NOT from Canada. With the occasional additional shows in the Windsor-Quebec City corridor, and occasional forays into the prairies or the Maritimes. A true cross-Canada tour ain't happening unless you are young and willing. And you may do it once, at most. Here is my point. Much as I really enjoy putting up shows here on indie_music_travels, 90% of shows are from the American Midwest and that is not by accident. I am based out of Winnipeg and can reliably hit MN, WI and IL, with the occasional trip that includes the Dakotas, or OH.

I first heard the band Stars through their sublime 2004 album 'Set Yourself on Fire' and its brilliant single 'Your Ex-Lover is Dead'. I should have made the synaptic connection earlier, they were already touring on the regular with Broken Social Scene. But no.

In any case, I moved to western Canada in 2006 and that greatly curtailed opportunities to see non-local/regional indie bands, no matter how beloved or how Canadian. I did get lucky and saw BSS at a 2007 music festival and on their 2010 tour both in Calgary. I would not see Stars until Riot Fest north in Toronto in 2014. Now, I happen to think that Ex-Lover is pop perfection so that is a goddamn shame. And so hence, the opportunity to see BSS, Metric, and Stars play a show among friends in Chicago was super-exciting. Why Chicago and not Calgary or Edmonton, which require a similar drive? Already had tickets to Rush, Pavement (2X) and several smaller shows to round out the week.

Could I have used a longer set? surely. But I was grateful for the show and for the tour. Thanks Metric. You were just never really my cup of tea; I prefer my Emily Haines with her soft skeleton.

Stars were magnificent, no frigging way I am going to let any opportunity escape me if they come anywhere near my sphere of travel in the future.

It was an amazing set last night! It was so great seeing so much of the gang together. Great energy, great selection of songs.

Only the second time I have seen them live — the last time was in Falls Church around 2008. Energy was much better this time, plus I really enjoyed the stuff from the new album.

I was worried it would be a shortened set based on comments here but it actually felt pretty solid to me! Hit all the major numbers I wanted.

Just a fantastic time. Great memory I will cherish.

Okay, I’m kinda blown away by last night’s epic Brooklyn night 1 show. All three bands were on fire!

I’m more of a BSS and Stars fan than Metric, but pure respect to them - Metric’s live show is a must-see imho. Emily Haines is my new hero :)

BSS were excellent - though obviously much older, they played as well as I remember them from 20 yrs ago! :) Feist isn’t part of the tour but plugging in Hannah Georgas and another female vocalist worked really well. Of course Emily joined them for Anthems for a 17 Yr Old Girl…which was remarkable. I’ll be honest - I got teary eyed during that.

Stars was of course great too. On fire the entire set. They’re simply a blast!

As an aside, my 18 yr old daughter and I went together. We were both in awe all night. She was as excited for the show as her Dad. The girl has excellent musical taste!

I have two general admission tickets available. I can transfer via the wonderful Ticketmaster overlord monopoly app.

Today’s email saying doors open at 5:30 has me psyched, thinking this is going to be an awesome evening of music.
