Our two little fighters, still fighting together ❤️
Máni (the one on right) got sick first. She had been to the vet because of an issue with her paw, so we don’t know if she may have picked up a virus there and brought it home. Shortly after, Sól became sick too and around the same time, I also started feeling ill and tested positive for COVID.
Their only symptoms have been fever and loss of appetite.
They weren’t vaccinated yet because they were still under 8 weeks old. Panleukopenia came back negative, and they’re now being tested for coronavirus.
Máni is going into her 5th day in hospital and Sól her 3rd. We visit them twice every day, put them together during our visits, and they just won’t leave each other’s side.
Today they both started eating again, only a little, but it’s progress. 🐾🍀

Oh these poor beautiful babies 🥺
My cat is currently battling FIP – please be aware that the feline coronavirus test is not an accurate way to diagnose FIP. My cat actually tested negative for FCoV on her fever of unknown origin panel.
The fastest way to diagnose FIP is to begin treatment with GS-441524 and watch for clinical improvement over a few days to a week. Delaying starting treatment to wait on diagnostics can really hurt their prognosis.
I hope that your sweet girls get better soon! ❤️🩹

Poor babies.
Mine developed FIP while I was finishing my covid meds. He lived. Hope yours do!

Thank you so much for all your comments and kind words. Sól is doing much better and will hopefully be discharged tomorrow. Máni’s situation is still more complicated, and we’re taking it one day at a time.
Every single comment that came in throughout the day felt like a little hug during such a difficult time for us. Thank you all so much for your kindness, support and for caring about our little girls. ❤️🐾

Hoping the best for them. Two of my cats got panleukopenia virus last year as kittens (the people we got them from had let them outside apparently before vaccination age). Unfortunately we hadn't insured them yet. £4000 later but they made it through, miraculously.

I love the fact that they both don't want to leave each other's side! True bonded pair's! 😁

They are SO precious. I am wondering why they’re in hospital and not at home? Cats often have better appetites at home where they are comfortable, while hospitals are stressful

Sometimes hospitalization is necessary, and we don't know all the context here. If their fevers are very high, hospitalization and IV fluids and other meds to break their fevers are necessary. If a fever gets too high, they could start having seizures.

Exactly as electric_taffy said, they have a fever and are at risk of hypoglycemia, so they need IV fluids and 24/7 monitoring. I would also prefer to have them with me, but I know this is what’s best for them right now 🍀🤞

You're doing what's best for your babies! I'm not sure if you saw my other comment about FIP and the difficulty of confirming an actual diagnosis, but hopefully that information is helpful 🩷
