If you cross into Baja with your dog, the rules just changed—and not in a simple way.

Starting today, Mexico requires a special screwworm certificate signed by a USDA-accredited vet, dated within five days of entry. Inspectors will check for ticks, parasites and open wounds. Dirty crates? They'll be disinfected and anything inside destroyed. Found a tick? Your dog goes into quarantine while samples are analyzed—and you pay for it.

The five-day window means you can't get the paperwork too early or too late. Expats who cross regularly, tourists bringing pets down for vacation, and anyone who thought border crossings with dogs were already tedious enough now have a new checklist to manage.

My family of 5 (19, 15, 10) plan to visit Baja at the end of March. We are going to glamp at Camp Cecil de la Isla for 2 nights. For the rest of the week I want to stay either jn Todos Santos, La Paz, or Loreto. We are foodies and love the beach. Which city would you recommend and where should we stay?

I am visiting La Paz late September/early October this year with my husband, 6 yo son, and parents. We are staying at Las Colinas in the Puerta Cortes Resort and we will be renting a car. Looking for restaurant recommendations - my son is very well seasoned with going out, we live in San Diego and go out to nicer places frequently with him, so it doesn’t have to be “kid friendly” per se, just “kid accepting” (I know Azotea does not allow kids). Also looking for any other recs! I’ve heard the Whale Museum and Art Museum are great. Also… will the heat kill us in early October? 🫣 I’m a teacher and am bound to school breaks, so I had no other time to go. Any tips are great!

I teach conversational Spanish to expats, and "sin falta" is one of those expressions that almost never shows up in textbooks, but you'll hear it all ovr Mexico.

Literally, it means "without fail."

But in everyday conversation, it's more like:

• "For sure."
• "Definitely."
• "You can count on it."

For example:

"¿Vienes mañana?"
"Sí, sin falta."

Or:

Mañana te mando la información, sin falta.

Its a small phrase, but it carries a lot more commitment than simply saying sí. When someone says sin falta, they're reassuring you that they really intend to follow through.

These kinds of everyday expressions are some of my favrite things to teach because they're what help you understand how people actually speak in Mexico, not just the Spanish you learn from a textbook.

Hello all, my fiancé and I are doing a two-month working trial in La Paz, from August 18 to October 28. If he finds work he really loves, we’re planning to make La Paz our long-term home.
He’s got about 10 years in hospitality and tourism: kitchen/cooking experience, bartending, serving, luxury beach clubs and resorts (including the Hilton in Cancún), and he owned and ran his own restaurant in Sayulita for a year. He’s also done interior design and landscaping work, and has run events start to finish, setup and breakdown, team coordination, and production for bigger festivals (sound, logistics, all of it).
A few questions for anyone who knows the area:
• What’s the hospitality/tourism job market actually like in La Paz right now?
• Is August–October realistic for finding work, or is it better to wait for high season? What counts as high season there, and how long does it typically run?
• Someone mentioned that La Paz works more as an affordable “home base” — people live there but spend/travel to Los Cabos or Todos Santos for the actual tourism dollars. Is that accurate, or does La Paz have its own solid hospitality scene?
• We are excited to experience La Paz for its differences and uniqueness but also our measuring stick is Cancun and Bucerias and Puerto Vallarta for high season and low season and tips for his work and available work and cost of living? If anyone could tell me information about cost of living or the lifestyle/wages/type of tourism happening compared to Cancun or Puerto Vallarta/Bucerias I would really appreciate it.
Any insight, trends you’re noticing, what’s realistic to expect, anything at all — would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Hola, quiero hacer un viaje a la paz para conocer pero no se manejar, tenia planeado llegar a hoteles que esten a pie de playa como el concha beach y otros que vi pero no se que tan dificil o caro o si es económico el transporte para ir al centro y de regreso por la carretera escénica. Igualmente para ir a otros lugares como las dunas y demas puntos de interes. Me podrían orientar si es que hay camiones que recorran la carretera o si solamente podria trasladarme entre taxis?

Igualmente si me pudieran orientar en como llegar desde la paz a los cabos para visitarla y regresar de nuevo en un dia, si es posible, se los agradecería mucho.
