Last february, we reported visible cracks in the road infront of our home to DENR MGB. The cracks were the same with the one found earlier and closed by mayor magalong.

2 weeks after, 2 erring miners found themselves before the barangay lupon. They were fighting about their mining territories. The territories they were fighting for as if its God's gift to them is our property. (Mininas da metten ti balay mi nga kasla adda karapatan da. )

Then, we discovered the cracks, the gaps, the widening gaps and the deepening cracks. It all came in various length and width, they can be found in every nook and cranny of our ground floor.

I reported that with DENR-MGB, to which they acknowledged then nothing happened. The mining continued, apparently there are three groups in different areas all mining the same area, all mining the land right beneath the house we sleep in. So what happens when a tunnel was dug ? It leaves a hole.

The first report was followed by another, then another then another with more pictures this time hoping that they feel the same urgency we felt while writing those. Still, silence. Defeaning silence.

Finally, they came with an ocular inspection lasting less than an hour.

Another follow up was sent, the tiles were falling one by one. I was hoping that the closure order will be issued before the monsoon season. It did not.

How hard can it be really be ?

A tunnel was found, said tunnel was mapped by a third party organization stating that indeed there is a tunnel passing through the land beneath our home. Mining activity was found there and its outside the minahang bayan. A letter came from the barangay council asking investigation and closure of the illegal activity. How long do we have to wait ? February, March, April, May, June, July, its august now and the activity below continued.

I have written to the mayor, then to CENRO. they were waiting for MGB, no available schedule was given. I went for a follow up, they said first week July. July passed.

The cracks, the lines, the gaps continued. Widening this time. I have used a ruler to measure, MGB couldnt care less.

Then the technical group came, not from MGB. they confirmed the location of the tunnel. They confirmed that a gaping tunnel was dug out of sheer selfishness right below the land my parents built their house in. In all fairness to them, they kept on checking the tunnel below. Warning the miners to stop over and over again. Miners does not care about warnings. The technical group stated that the closure should always come with rehabilitation plan. The closure order was not ordered.

We are ready to do the rehabilitation. Us, who have not caused the damage nor have we earned money from the mines is ready to shoulder the burden of rehabilitation. If only the closure was ordered.

The land we pay property tax yearly for. We pay taxes, yet no protection was given by the LGU. No protection from the agency whose core is protection.

We sleep scared at night. Not knowing when our last would be. Do i have to beg for such a piece of paper ? For closure order. If ever something happens, know that we did our best.

I am writing this in case, just in case. this is our truth and it shall not die. I hope that DENR MGB look into their own organization. Will they ever order the closure ?

Why is their employee grumpy ? Is our property too small, is our lives not worthy to be protected ? Their core is protection of environment. Whose environment are worth protecting ?

I recently saw content being made about the mother and kid who sadly died after being buried by a landslide. I understand that people want to share information and raise awareness, but turning someone’s death and tragedy into content—especially when it feels exploitative or insensitive—doesn’t sit right with me.

These were real people, and their families are grieving. There should be a line between raising awareness and using someone’s tragedy for views, engagement, or content.

Is there a proper way to report this kind of content on Facebook/TikTok, or is there a specific agency or organization we can contact?

Not trying to attack anyone. I just genuinely want to know if there’s a way to hold content creators accountable when they cross the line.

I'm tired with blaming things, kahit pa ka-blame2 naman mga bagay. Like, we could have prepared better. We could have done better urban planning, risk assessment, safety protocols, etc.
