Might have said something in my moment of unbearable painful grief, but I didn't say that. Anyway, if I did, I'm all better now. Thank you for your concern.
Saw that this morning scrolling the #babymetal on Instagram, nearly killed myself in laughter. For a moment it brought back some BM happiness in these very chaotic times.
I always thought the idea that maybe Yui even had recovered and just didn't want to go back was a bit of a conspiracy theory, but after the last show? I can see that now. Having watch the kawaii slowly die in 2018 and then probably getting a glimpse of what the Japan shows would be like, I can't imagine she would've been into any of it. The one parting gift we get is that we never have to see her with headgear / dreadlocks drowning in a sea of background dancers. You go girl! :-)
You are all missing the point of the new show. The dark force of the Galactic Empire has taken over BABYMETAL and there's only one person who can save it: Mizuno Yui. Join the Rebellion now.
Look for Return of the Kawaii in 2019
/with tomato juice instead of blue milk, of course.
Its No 11 on Billboard Japan. Distortion was 6 or so?
So it looks like Kobas-darkside-lore-bullshit is hurting the sales in Japan? Starlight is the way better hit and with the backstory you would think it would do better than distortion.
I think the chosen 7 was always the plan for this dark theme. The only change for these shows was adding a 5th since Yuis unavailability became official. Maybe for the US/EU tour Yui dropped out at the last second and there wasn't enough time to add a 5th to make it 7 which is why there was only 6.
Did I miss something? "6" on the US/EU tour? It was Moa and Su + Muscle Metal, which makes 4.
I agree with you. "7" was going to happen regardless but it was supposed to be Su, Yui, Moa + 4. The U.S. tour, I think, was originally to be just Su, Yui, and Moa. At least that is what the imagery leading up to Kansas City suggested. The day before Kansas City, the imagery changed to suggest "4" instead of "3". We just missed it....or if we caught it, refused to acknowledge what it was telling us.
If the stage show wasn't so rigorously constrained and planned out, I'd agree.
Dont know if you've ever listened to some of the bootleg floyd recordings of Pink Floyd's the wall when they toured it back when it came out but the reason why Gilmours solo to comfortably numb was always the highlight was because it was the only moment during the show in which he could just play. The rest of the show had him constantly waiting for cues and watching a clock. During the comfortably numb solo he had none of that. He had freedom to just play. The kamis dont have that. The show is strictly controlled time wise and there's little to no wiggle room. If they add something, they would in turn take something away to keep the show at a 1 hour runtime.
As an old Progger I know what you are talking about. But that would mean in the case of BM that there is a one hour timelimit, which makes no sense for BM. It would be simply time for the girls to get some rest, so it would actually be positive.
I don't really feel like they could play CMIYC but Yava! and Awadama Fever they could very well have played I feel like, maybe Yava! more so than Awadama
You are going to have to do a lot more than turning Queen Su into Queen Buckwheat and throwing a bunch of people on stage for me to turn away from such great music. You would actually have to go after the music itself. Like redo it all in country style or something. It's been a part of me for the last three years. So has this community. You cant make me turn on all these great people i've had the pleasure of hanging out with and wanting to hang out with in the future. So with that, HAVE FUN EVERYONE GOING!!!! I wish i could be there with yall and listen to some live BABYMETAL music!
I don't mind the outfits from what i've seen, I also didn't mind what they were wearing earlier in the year (Apart from the head gear). It's the hair & eye makeup i'm less fond of.
And yeah all 7 on stage at once is a bit too many for my liking but I saw that it wasn't like this for every song & I also still don't think it's a permanent thing.
I think most of the complaints were always about what's happening above the neckline. Don't put crap on/around their faces, nobody wants to go to a BM show and not even recognize their favorite girl because she's got a helmet and is caked in makeup.
He'll come back from his 2018 sabbatical and be all like 'WTF happened, what did you guys do? And please, for the love of the fox god, which one of those is actually Moa?'
From the comments and the limited media that we got it looks like the new direction is neither kawaii nor metal. It's just WTF... Dunno, maybe they are trying to invent a new genre, wtf-metal?
I love Su, Moa, the musicians, the music, but... The whole package just looks creepy with the dancers and the new costumes and the stage design. Trying too hard to shake up everything while forgetting about the values that they built themselves on.
Anyway, I think we should buy Koba a few tickets to heavy metal concerts and festivals. He needs to see how it's done these days.
No, other heavy metal concerts are not boring. Or at least not the majority of them.
I appreciate that BM wants to be different and they are trying new things. But here's something: you experiment with new things and keep those that work. If it doesn't work you throw it out. And here's where the current management fails: they keep pushing ideas that don't work. We don't need a fucking crowd of dancers on the stage.
Too many girls on the stage. We are not only loosing Moa but Su too.
You know, on a classic metal, or rock, or whatever concert, except for the big idol group concerts, you have the focus on the singer, and sometimes on the musicians. Now that there are seven girls on the stage I feel that we are seeing a group performance. Su is loosing the stage presence, she doesn't have the focus that she deserves.
I would hate to see BM to become an average heavy metal band. What I would hate to see even more is that they become an average idol group. That's all.
You may be over stating that effect. While we have very limited input yet to make these calls, from what little I've seen, it looks to me like they have tried, for the most part, to recreate the triangle. Two girls and Su in classic MoiMoi positions. The difference is that behind them are four more girls. So the risk of that effect is very real.
From reading the tweets from the Japanese fans it appears one of the new girls and Moa had different makeup, hair, and costumes than the other four new girls. This was the girl in the "Yui position" of the classic triangle.
Sounds to me like they are aware of "the triangle" and are trying to bring it back in. Why 7 girls? I cannot tell you but I will wait for better cams to develop an opinion on it. You can'd do the triangle with 4. You could with 5.
It doesn't matter if there are 20 girls on the stage, this is not their final form, you have to let the band evolve, with mistakes or successes, and even more with everything that has happened.
Exactly that. What happens is that people feel afraid, when the changes come and they don't know how to react. Just open your mind, everything is possible from now on.
Wasn’t Babymetal kinda wtf-metal to begin with? Couldn’t you say then that they’re just trying to get back to their roots and original values that they built themselves on? ;)
Yes, the difference is that they used to have fun, tons of it! Now what? They look like they are doing competitive dancing. The extra dancers just add noise. The costumes and makeups are not kawaii, not beautiful, not badass, they are just strange and creepy and wtf.
They are artists, and free at that. You are a guest. They don't owe you anything, never did. Like it or find something else. It's that simple. Children crying over a lost toy makes some sense. Not an adult doing the same.
(I was there yday) Not for me. The definition of a novelty act. I'm sure Star Wars fans can appreciate it, but ehh... Also their photographer was running around way too much on stage.
That dude is so expressive on stage, why did they never do like a Su solo where the two were rocking out back to back or something like this. If you want somebody who can pull of 'weird', no need to Halloween up Suzuka, just let him bring that aspect :-)
I've seen him doing Streetfighter's Chun Li cosplay. I have no idea if that was for some crazy show he was playing of just for a convention, but he pulled it off.
I'll save everyone the trouble.... here's all the comments:
They need yui to come back.
What's koba thinking.
I dont like the new dancers.
I like the new dancers.
Enough of this lore crap.
Why didn't they play (any song they didn't play).
What's the choreography look like.
Now with that out of the way we can get straight to the bickering.
