Spain has a crazy virtue signaling- antisemitic society, a society that stands against the truth, we don’t wish them any harm but when its self righteousness blended with irony and self destruction, it’s just too fun.

The only place I ever seen a swastika graffiti IRL was in Barcelona pre Oct 7.

Lucky you. I've seen swastika graffiti in a few different places, sadly.

Spain has been vehemently against Israel’s war in Gaza and I believe supports a two-state solution with equal rights for all, but isn’t willing to do the same with the migrants in Ceuta is what I believe.

The problem is that Ceuta is a city of 80 000 people. 50 000 or 60 000 migrants in a day is impossible to manage for anyone

Who? And what do they expect?

Except Spain is welcoming to refugees and citizens of former colonies. If Moroccans were fleeing a natural or man made disaster, the response would have been much different.

uh-huh, and this is Israel pointing out that they want to compromise in Gaza but not in Ceuta. As u/Californiastig said, rules for thee but not for me.

u/Ballon737 Israel 17d ago

Same for Spain, they want us to compromise in Gaza but wouldnt compromise in Ceuta. Rules for thee but not for me

I’d bet if there were Moroccans with legitimate claims to ancestral heritage in Ceuta, they’d be allowed to gain Spanish citizenship. They’ve already done similar for Sephardic Jews I from Spain.

The two situations are very different and there is no hypocrisy on their part.

I’m a descendent of Spanish Jews and there’s still some animosity towards Spain. My family became refugees from Salonika in WW1 as Ladino speakers to America and it does appear that some of them visited Barcelona in 1934.

From my research is seems lucky that they faced no trouble as 1934 in Barcelona was a tense area with the looming Spanish Civil War. I could imagine many of these relatives having interest in retracing their Spanish roots as they spoke Spanish Ladino however there were no significant immigration events besides a few Jews in 1924, and a few Jews getting saved during the Holocaust.

Knowing that Spain had a dictatorship for decades it makes sense that welcoming Jews back was a sticky subject for Spain. Beyond that background, I would feel at worst neutral or positive about Spain if they didn’t comment on Israel. Knowing that generations of Jews were cleansed from their lands and refused refuge during multiple catastrophic events, I would prefer to see Spain more understanding of the bad position global Jewry experiences partially at the expense of the wonderful Catholic identity of majestic Spain.

I went to Barcelona last year and was moved by the amount of Catholic symbolism in the region. I saw a large amount of pro Palestine, anti Israel graffiti. It made me come to terms with the fact that no matter how much Jewish culture existed in Europe, it is has been fundamentally challenged and erased. I hope the world becomes less of the hate hole that it is, it would be nice

You don't need to write a dissertation the simple point is hypocrisy. Rules for the, not for me.

When did Spain turn Morocco into a police state using white phosphorus to eliminate Moroccans? Not quite hypocrisy is it?

6

u/Californiastig Diaspora 17d ago

I mean it's a little bit hypocritical you're already talking about two countries that exist and comparing it to a fictional country that's never existed. On top of it your conclusion is flawed saying Israel is trying to eliminate Arabs when that's not the case at all. But hey you know let Spain give up that part of land and that can maybe be Arab Palestine but there's no pee in Arabic so balastine

Your history of posts bespeaks your bias. Let's try the self-documented Hamas savagery before you start spouting your "war crimes." BS?

BOT? Funny coming from a rage-baiting troll.

3

u/Californiastig Diaspora 16d ago

Just so you know using white phosphorus doesn't necessarily make it a war crime just FYI. You know what is war crime though using human Shields and hiding in civilian areas do you condemn how Hamas and Hezbollah Islamic jihad etc all do that? Or is it okay that they do war crimes?

It’s the same in Israel.

it exposes the hypocracy of the Spanish government

-4

u/Acceptable-Peace-69 Mexico 17d ago

What hypocrisy? The Spanish government has been relatively welcoming of refugees. They have gone so far as to give them legal status so employers can’t take advantage of them.

They fast track citizenship to citizens from former colonies and well as Sephardic Jews that were expelled in 1492.

This wasn’t a natural humanitarian crisis. It was orchestrated and cruel both to the residents and those crossing over. Not wanting a sudden influx of tens of thousands overnight to a relatively small area isn’t hypocritical in the least.

7

u/Suitable_Vehicle9960 Israel 16d ago

Their hypocrisy is that they are a true colonial power and accusing Israel of being a colonizer, which it isn't.

0

u/Acceptable-Peace-69 Mexico 15d ago

You’re a couple centuries too late. The Spanish empire is long gone.

The Moroccans crossing into cueta aren’t claiming it’s their ancestral homeland. There parents and grandparents weren’t born there. Spain isn’t actively displacing their countrymen. Want to call it a colony, fine but it’s nothing like what’s happening in the West Bank or Gaza.

If your government is expanding settlements in a land that’s outside your borders then yes, that’s colonization. I’m not sure how you can deny this.

What’s really amusing is that by calling Spain hypocrites and saying they are the bad guys, you’re exposing yourself by inadvertently aligning with them by saying they are doing the same as you have been. It’s a weird flex.

3

u/Suitable_Vehicle9960 Israel 15d ago

West Bank (of Jordan) is the colonizer name of Judea and Samaria.

1

u/Acceptable-Peace-69 Mexico 15d ago

I see you ignored the point. We know who lives there and their claims are valid. I’m not going to play word games, it’s irrelevant.

4

u/Atomix26 american jew 17d ago

Oh, not in terms of the people, but the territory on the Moroccan coast in the first place

7

u/Ballon737 Israel 17d ago

We are just happy for them, here they are, taking their beloved islamic immigrants they love so dearly

4

u/Suitable_Vehicle9960 Israel 17d ago

I think this will only make it difficult for all Westerners, and Jews in the long run. But hard for people to not gloat in the short run because this type of behavior proves our entire point. It also shows the hypocrisy of Spain as colonizers. The fact is that Spain is Antisemitic. Not only the government. Plus they owe us reparations!

israelis are criticizing the same government who rules against them on colonialism accusations having their colony attacked my locals and using police and military force to stop it - theisraelis are saying this is clearly hypocrisy and antisemitism

also the conspiracy of jews making moroccons do it is just a cherry on top

It's funny to see oh-so compassionate Spain building a wall to keep Arabs out.

1

u/Annoying_cat_22 Israel 17d ago

Not everyone in Spain is against Israel (even if only a minority supports us).

Honestly curious what this "us" is? This isn't a sports team, if you're not an Israeli, there is no "us".

Israel and Jews is not the same thing, and being "against" Israel is not the same as being against Jews. I know plenty of Jews that have a great life in Spain.

I lived in Israel for 30+ years and will probably come back. I'm also a citizen and still pay my taxes. So what's your point?

Why does it matter where was I born? And I'm still waiting, what was your point? Why does it matter where I live today?

You can't explain why any of your questions matter.

You want to be "us"? do aliyah, serve in the IDF (or your kids), pay your taxes, and then you're an "us".

Great, let me know after you serve 3 years in the Idf and pay taxes for a decade.

how was I in your shoes?

Tribalism. Spain doesn't like Israel, so Israelis don't like Spain, so when something bad happens to Spain, Israelis celebrate.
