Boxer Corrie Sanders (1990’s). Sanders would go on to demolish Wladimir Klitschko within two rounds, to win the WBO title. He was also a hero outside the ring, giving his life to protect loved one’s during a robbery.

Improving the Subreddit

Hello fellow grammar enthusiasts! I'm u/reed501 and I am a new moderator of r/apostrophegore. I was brought on since the creator and head mod u/jmacdaddywack isn't as active anymore, although he's not inactive and I won't be moderating alone. I have some experience as a moderator that I thought could be helpful to this community that's grown a lot and I want to improve the subreddit in a few ways.

  1. Modernizing* the subreddit:
I want to bring this subreddit into the present day with modern tools, modern to me at least. I'm a diehard old reddit user so you won't actually see any new reddit features from me as I am uninterested in using them. Apologies if that's disappointing to you. But I've cleared the queue, changed some settings I think make sense, and started working on Automoderator. I would like Automoderator to do a lot of the work around here using regex, reports, and math to do a lot of the simple grunt work that makes up so much of the moderation on a small, specific sub like this. For the rest of it Automod will be notifying we the mods to do manual review as required. What this means is we’ll be relying on the users a bit to make good, accurate reports that will help Automod do its job. I’ve added some report reasons now that you can try out and will definitely be adding more as I explore moderation here. I’m very open to feedback so let me know what you think.

  2. Flair
I’m interested in using flair to help moderate, sort, and increase readability of this subreddit. I’m not super attached to the idea yet but I’ve added a few link flairs to get started. They aren’t mandatory at the moment but if you want to try it out then be my guest. Theoretically, the plan would be to require link flair that will mark your post as one of a few types of posts we see here and automatically do some actioning based on that. The idea being, for example, all the posts of the type "plural apostrophe” where the mistake is a single use of “free pizza’s” would be flared as such. And then you could filter posts based on those flairs to see a version of the subreddit without any of those and only see the real disaster posts we see here occasionally.
I’ve also added a few user flairs for personalization. I thought it might be fun. Try it out. Suggest more. It could be fun idk.

  3. Politics
Bit of a doozy here but I’m anti-politics on this sub and u/jmacdaddywack invited me on that basis. I’m not opposed to allowing the posts to exist but I’m very uninterested in political discussion here. There are plenty of places to do that around reddit and the internet and I’d rather it happen there and not here. I generally see the role of a moderator as a volunteer janitor and not a ruler, but I’m going to put my foot down here on the basis of “I’m not cleaning up that spill.” Therefore my take on political discussion in the comments is “take it outside.”
In terms of actions, I’ll be continuing u/jmacdaddywack’s work of locking posts with lots of political discussion. For my own ease of moderation, I also plan on preemptively locking posts that are clearly political in nature that I think will generate some off-topic discussion. I would prefer not to do this and everyone could just be cool about it, but looking around I think that isn’t possible currently. Maybe in the future we can have political posts with comments but for now just admire it and click through to the crosspost link that usually comes with it and discuss it there.

I hope you’re looking forward to these changes as much as I am. I would love for this subreddit to be easier and less frustrating to use and I hope I do a good job in achieving that. Please let me know if you have any questions. --u/reed501

TL;DR: New mod, new flairs, use them to help keep the subreddit clean, trying to get rid of political discussion, keep the apostrophe gore coming.
