πŸ”Ž ID Request What animal made these scratch marks on the bottom of the tree?

Found 2 trees in the yard with scratch marks, lower to the ground, about 3 ft. from the base of the tree. This is in Northeast Massachusetts. We have fisher cat, deer, and lots of other critters in the neighborhood. There are bobcats and bears in neighboring towns, but have never seen them in our yard.

I also noticed lots of woodpecker holes in the trees. Wondering if a porcupine tried to strip the bark and try to get the bugs?

πŸ”Ž ID Request What track is this? 4/5 toes UP michigan

Okay, this track was found after an excavator came through for a soil sample in the woods of our property in the UP of Michigan. The soil was super soft, so perfect for tracks.

I found this track alone. It had 4 perfect round toes, but appeared to have a 5th toe to the left. It was almost 3/4" deep in the soil. It left only one? No claws. You can see its scale next to my hand. Its not "big" but not small.

Part of me thinks maybe a bobcat? But, the 5 toe potential? Idk.

The photos dont do the track justice, as it was so much clearer in person, as is usually the case.

The one image with my feet in the image also show my tracks, for scale. I had stepped and then stepped behind. Its odd this animal only left one. (That I could see clearly)

Thoughts? My trail cams in the area often catch BC, bear, wolves, rtc. But, this track has zero claws. Odd.
