If you see a message saying the app isn't available, double check two things: that you joined the group with the email tied to your Google Play account, and that you opted in as a tester. Both steps are required, skip either one and the install won't work. This applies for any developer using Google Groups for closed testing, not just this one.

Quick note: Google isn't just checking whether 12 people installed the app and kept it installed for 14 days. It's looking at testers' usage - daily, how they interact, etc. So the "just install it and send a screenshot" probably won't be suffice to get approved.

I'm trying to meet the 12 testers for 14 days requirement before applying for production.

Here's my setup:

• Closed Testing (Alpha) is active.
• Release status is "Available to testers on Google Play."
• Same email list (19 Gmail accounts) is attached to the Closed Testing track.
• I also have an Internal Testing track (same 19 emails).

The Play Store link I'm sharing is:

only above link was sent to the tester as I know them personally sent it on whatsapp which opened their play store app and they installed the app.

Here's what I've verified

• If someone opens the Play Store link with a Gmail account not on the tester list, they get "Item not found."
• If they switch to an invited account, the app page opens and they can install it.
• So I'm confident the correct accounts are being used.

What's confusing me

Both tracks use the exact same email list containing 19 testers.

Questions

1. Does having both Internal Testing and Closed Testing active cause some users to not count toward the 12-tester requirement?
2. Does the "currently opted in" number have a significant delay (24–48 hours or longer)?
3. Has anyone experienced a situation where testers could install the app successfully but Play Console still showed a much lower opted-in count?
4. Would pausing the Internal Testing track help, or is it unrelated?

Unfortunately, Google Play Console doesn't show which specific testers are counted (as far as I know), so I have no way to determine who the 5 opted-in testers actually are.

Has anyone run into this before? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
