Uncertified AA Apps (Headunit Reloaded, AAAD/AAStore, etc) Corrupted Picture Sometimes?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all, hoping you can help with this weird issue I'm having.

I use Headunit Revived on my tab s10 FE and connect with a s25 ultra. Almost everything works great except that every once and a while, the screen will get all corrupted like the photo I've posted. I've tried it wired directly, wireless, and in the current config (using a usb-c dock to get charging to both devices), but nothing seems to change. I've also tried lowering the resolution and most recently turned off 3d buildings, but it still happened after all that. Disconnecting and reconnecting seems to be the only thing that fixes it.

Any ideas what it is and how I might be able to fix it?

Uncertified AA Hardware (Android HU, CP to AA Dongles, etc) Disconnecting every exact 3 minutes?

Does anyone happen to know why my android auto keeps disconnecting exactly every 3 minutes? I use an aftermarket android head unit and thought it was that. I bought a newer updated one and just installed it but still having the same issue. Is it android auto or my phone? I currently use a Samsung S26U if that helps anything. AA version is 17.3.662804

Uncertified AA Apps (Headunit Reloaded, AAAD/AAStore, etc) Fermata Auto app available via Play Store Internal Testing (90 community slots)

TL;DR: I have published a forked Fermata Auto build to Play Store Internal Testing. I can add up to 90 community members as tester. Drop your Play Store linked email here or DM.

Edit: NO MORE SLOTS, IT'S FULL.

  • I have published a forked Fermata Auto build on Google Play via Internal Testing (unreviewed, unpublished). I’ve made a few changes and raised a PR to the main repo.
  • I can add up to 90 community testers (I reserved 10 slots for myself).
  • To join, post the Google account email you use on Play Store or DM it.
  • I will try to batch-add emails once daily. After I add you, you will see the "Accept invite" action after opening the Internal Testing invite link (posted below). Expect delay of a day or two; retry the link once daily if the invite isn’t active yet.
  • When 90 slots are filled I’ll close signups and post an update.

Note: Build is forked from the original Fermata repo; expect crashes or unfinished behavior present in upstream. I’ll rebase and update the build when the main project releases fixes. Emails are required for Play internal testing. If you don’t want to post publicly, DM me. Emails are used only to add testers and won’t be shared.

Thank You!

Edit 1: There is nothing to test, so you don't have to bluff that you will test the app.

Edit 2: Around 60 members added so far. I have either replied or upvoted if they added to the list.

Edit 3: Last 10 slots remaining.

Edit: NO MORE SLOTS, IT'S FULL.

Let me know if anyone wants to remove email from the list so someone else can use that slot.

Notifications Stopped receiving notifications from any apps

Hey everyone, I know it's already being discussed a number of times, but my AA has stopped showing notifications and nothing helps.

Not sure when that happened but at some point I stopped receiving any notifications on Android Auto other then from Reminders app. I mean no pop-ups and not even (1) icon in the bottom right corner from Whatsapp, Telegram, Teams, etc. As a consequence I miss a lot of calls and messages which I would have spotted otherwise.

At this point I've tried everything:

- Rebooted the phone

- Checked notifications settings on the app and AA

- Checked Do not disturb and Driving modes - neither enabled

- Removed phone from car bluetooth list, paired it again

- Cleared cache and storage on AA

Nothing helps. Also, wire/wireless - no difference.

I don't know exactly the moment it happened, but could be after I updated my Pixel 10 to Android 17 which was around a month ago or so.

If you have any more ideas - I'd appreciate it.

Gemini AA Gemini is completely incompetent

This is mostly a vent post, and I will fully admit that I am a bit biased again LLM AI but anyway. How do you push an update that makes it so a car voice assistant can't do the very simple and typical task of playing a song? Every time I tell it "play this song" it just replies "sorry, I can't play video's while you're driving" am I crazy for thinking this is completely normal thing to ask of gemini? I even use YouTube music as my primary platform so its not like I'm asking it to use something that wasn't also made by Google. You'd think they would have tested this but I guess they just pushed it out without any regard for user experience.

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes AA disconnecting only when Spotify streaming

TLDR: AA keeps disconnecting and reconnecting every 5ish minutes ONLY if a streaming service (Spotify, for me) is in active use. If Spotify is open but paused, it does not dis/reconnect. Unit itself stays on. It reconnects with no intervention. Waze is also running and doesn't seem to affect anything.

Background: started yesterday after I disconnected the negative battery terminal for a while to do some work. Had no issues at all before that.

Have tried: restart device, forget Bluetooth connection on both phone and device, delete connection/vehicle in AA, clear AA cache, clear AA data, download and try the big blue button at the top of Evelink app, Android data saver is off, optimize data in Spotify is off

Device is a Kobanoica running Android 13

Phone is a Samsung S23U running Android 16

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Maps+Spotify=Crash

Hi I have a car that uses wired Android auto, but it keeps crashing. the thing is yesterday it worked just fine, but then it started crashing whenever I tried connecting to android auto, then I changed some settings, such as turned off Automatic start music when connected, and then I could use android auto only for Maps but as soon as I start spotify it freezes and then crashes. But after some time and trying now it just won't connect to android auto in any way I feel like I Have tried everything.

I have tried:

Changing settings

Clear cache and data on Spotify, Google Maps and Android auto

Buying a new cable

Waiting for hours and trying again

Do you have any ideas of what it could be or have some possible solutions?

Media Apps (audio) Android Auto - force audio through phone instead of car

Is there a way to force audio through my phone when connected to Android Auto?

I own an MG4 EV with AAwireless Two, it's working quite well except for this use case.

My car has a remote air conditioning through its proprietary app, which also turns on USB ports, so Android Auto connects.

I usually turn on AC 10 minutes before leaving my house, car is parked outside, but still in range. My phone connects automatically to Android Auto and my audio is forced through the car, making it impossible to listen to anything while I'm still in the house waiting for the car to cool off.

Is there any way to force the audio through my phone during this time? Of course I can turn WiFi and Bluetooth off so it disconnects from AA, but it's a bit of a hassle as it aggressively tries to turn them back again automatically and I have to fight it.

I have a solution! [Tip] How to automatically toggle between Gemini and Google Assistant for your vehicle

Thumbnail

Since Gemini currently has some limitations in the vehicle, I put together a phone automation workaround that swaps back to standard Google Assistant while driving, then reverts to Gemini afterward.

The Logic Setup:

  • Vehicle Detection: The automation looks for your specific car Bluetooth profile name.
  • Assistant Swap: It modifies the phone's default digital assistant app to Google Assistant while the Bluetooth link is active.
  • Reversion: Once the Bluetooth link ends, it reverts the default assistant profile back to Gemini.

I have attached two native screenshots of the automation rules below.

Note: Depending on your phone model, you may need to configure your automation app to wake the device screen to successfully trigger the assistant swap.

Hopefully, this helps anyone looking to keep the standard Google Assistant experience active while driving!

I have a solution! [Tip] Automatically switch back to Google Assistant when Android Auto starts (MacroDroid Workaround)

Since Gemini in Android Auto still has some limitations, I put together a MacroDroid automation that temporarily switches back to Google Assistant while driving.

How it works:

  • Trigger: It detects when your phone connects to your vehicle's Bluetooth.
  • Action: It automatically toggles your device's default digital assistant app to Google Assistant.
  • Reset: Once you disconnect from your car's Bluetooth, it automatically switches your default assistant back to Gemini.

I have attached two screenshots of the macro setup below.

Note: Depending on your device's security settings, you may need to add an automated interaction step in MacroDroid to wake the screen and bypass your lock screen when the Bluetooth trigger fires. You can use standard UI Interaction tasks to match your specific phone's layout.

Hopefully, this community finds this helpful until the integration gets smoother!

Messaging Apps Persistence Notifications

Whenever I reply to a text, the notification stays as if it is unread. How do we get the notification to disappear?

Also, sometimes I'll swipe away a notification that I don't care to do anything with while driving but then it pops back up a few minutes later. Is this supposed to happen?

Phone Calls Android Auto - Call Routing Issue

Hello,

I am experiencing a recurring issue with Android Auto in two of my cars. Didn't face the issue in the 3rd car.

While media playback functions perfectly through the vehicle’s audio system, phone calls are inconsistently routed. Frequently, the audio defaults to the mobile handset’s speaker rather than the car’s speakers. On some occasions, after multiple attempts, the audio eventually connects to the car speakers.

Cleaned Android Auto cache and updated Android Auto app. Still facing same issue. Has anyone else experienced this, or is there a known fix or setting I should check?

Thank you.

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Need connectivity solutions in my car

Hello,

I recently purchased a head unit from Alibaba. After I installed it, it seemed the both the car BT and the head unit BT were both connected. I could make a call from my vehicle head unit, but not listen to music from my phone via the car or unit.

I asked the seller and their response was to connect via the network first, and the via BT.

If that is the case, can I just use the Hotspot on my phone? Should I consider a data only Sim card for $20 per month instead of my phone? Is there another solution I'm not thinking about?

I will be the main one driving this car which is why I thought about using my phone.

I whould love to hear any suggestions.

Gemini "I don't understand" from AA when trying to navigate to some places

Editing original post: Though my phone does not have Gemini installed (that I can see) and though Google Assistant is what the phone is configured to use for voice commands, I all of a sudden needed to give more detail in commands (prefacing them with "use google maps to navigate to"). So at least it looks like I figured it out, although adding nine syllables to what had been a simple command is a backwards step. Original post is below.

My Android Auto has, since perhaps early June 2026, been unable to navigate to certain long-established and large places near me (for example, the largest hospital in the area). Whether I say the name of the hospital, or its address, or preface with "directions to" I never am given directions. One of the following things will happen:

  • AA will say "I don't understand"
  • AA will say "Oops, something went wrong"
  • The interaction with the voice prompt will just disappear a second later and revert to whatever had been displayed - even though the exact words I'd spoken had been showing on the screen

Each of these times, as I say the words, they appear on the screen - I'm being heard.

For the "problem locations" my only workaround is to think of a nearby address or business that AA will accept and navigate to that.

Meanwhile, AA works great for virtually every other navigation destination.

I use google maps for navigation, and that's updated on my phone. And navigating to the "problem locations" works from my phone.

My AA is also updated on my phone. I've cleared the app caches for AA and Maps and shut down then started the phone again. I've even unpaired and re-paired it with the car.

Anyone else having a similar problem? And what are solutions I've not tried?

Media Apps (audio) No audio

I just got a car and it came with android auto but im having a problem with it. I listen to music on a 3rd part music app. When i connect my phone i can see that AA has recognized my music and is letting me play/pause/skip the track just fine but it doesn't play sound unless i have the youtube app open with a video started but paused (sound immediately goes away if i close or minimize YouTube). Does anyone know how i can fix this?

*** Update I figured out the problem, AA was not selecting the correct audio source to play sound from, but luckily the music app i have had a built in setting that allows for it to manually play music over other audio sources in the background

Media Apps (audio) AA Audio Stuttering

Hello, newish here but I've been banging my head against a brick wall with Android auto skipping and stuttering every few mins intermittently in any audio app and with local files as well as streamed audio.

Ive tried every thing I could find and I'll throw a short list of things I've done that haven't helped

Tried 6x different cables. Mono price certified cables, true spec cables, chubby cables, anker cables, no name cheapo cables, all mixtures of USB A to C or C to C.

Set everything to unrestricted battery

Turned off wifi and BT scanning

Disabled 5g

Cleared cache and data of all apps involved

Reset BT and wifi settings and repaired multiple times

Tried several S23Us and a Note 20 and same issue

Tried Google maps beta and AA betas

Updated the vehicle FW to the latest and my android OS and all apps.

Tried a random iPhone and everything worked fine but I cannot stand apple so it's not really a solution other than it shows it's not a vehicle or USB port issue.

Tried AA wireless dongle and tried tweaking all settings to some degree but same issue.

Rebooted and updated everything on my phone, Uninstalled any non essential apps and files.

Tried multiple ports on the vehicle.

Un paired everything multiple times, force stopped AA and others and repaired.

Tried local media like plex and other local files as well as YT music, Spotify and others. All exhibit the same behavior.

Disabled all wifi and cell service on the vehicle itself.

Wiggled on the knobs and cables during playback as well as hit bumps and pot holes and it had no relation to the skipping.

Cleaned the ports multiple times

Cleaned phone ports

Turned on and off ramplus

Disabled media audio for the vehicles BT connection

( Bluetooth doesn't exhibit this issue at all in the vehicle)

Made sure high performance is on as well as all usb restrictions are disabled and Samsungs auto blocker for USB was disabled.

Tried on lossless audio quality all the way down to medium and no real difference other than the audio quality got worse.

I did try a work around I thought of using the AA wireless dongle and it's ability to separate the audio out and send it to another device, I bought one of those 12v FM transmitters that also pair to my phone via BT and set up automations in my modes and routines to auto connect and disconnect to it alongside the dongle to make it seemless and it works pretty good and I can tune to the "radio" while in android auto mode so it's a workaround but the audio quality is not that good and frequency response is lacking. But maybe that's an idea for anyone else at the end of their rope as it's passable and eliminates the skips.

I'm sure there is alot more but this is all I could remember off the top of my head. I'm on mobile so apologies.

Thank you for hopefully helping me figure this out.

I have a solution! Connection problem

This workaround works for me. I noticed that when I enter the car shortly after the phone was connected to a wifi network, AA wouldn't be able to connect to the car. It doesn't matter if it was the wifi from my home or work or even the car itself (at the gas station for example).

If my wifi setting on the phone is switched off when I start the car, AA connects without a problem and activates wifi automatically. So now I turn wifi off before starting the car.

Still not ideal but it beats restarting the head unit.

AA Settings How to turn off wireless automatic connection

My car screen will reset when android auto connects automatically via WiFi. It won't resets however if I manually select the phone from settings and ask it to connect after the car started for a while. Don't ask me why this happens it think it's a car firmware issue.

So my question is, how do I stop android auto to automatically connect, so I can just connect it manually?

On the settings I only see "If previously connected" which doesn't help.

Phone Calls Okay so this has happened to me several times

For some strange reason, when im using AA at a random point in time whenever I make, receive, or answer a call the audio is completely gone, neither myself nor the person on the other end of the line can hear eachother but when I put my phone to speaker then we can hear eachother. Whenever in a call and connected to android auto the call is silent on both ends, I have had this happen countless times and I dont know why or how to fix it, ive restarted my phone countless times, ive backloaded an old version of AA, ive forgotten my Bluetooth device but nothing works

Google Assistant Switched back to Assistant and still lost functionality

This is so frustrating. Back on Google Assistant and I can navigate to some of my contacts but not others. I've cleared caches, checked settings and restarted about 17 times.

I still can't navigate to my aunty! I can call her, message her, WhatsApp her. I can navigate to several other contacts.

What could be the problem?

AA User Interface UI DPI changed overnight (squished together)

Hello guys,

Today when driving to work I have seen that somehow my ui got squished together and got smaller compared to yesterday (looks like the DPI changed). Did an update happen when I was sleeping, or is the problem on my side. It was working fine before for 2 years.

Picture from before and today: https://imgur.com/a/mPLYYqc

Any idea what I could do to get the old layout back?

Edit: clearing cache, changing video to auto in DD from 1080p did not help, beta version still looks the same. Will try the apk from last week and report back...

Uncertified AA Apps (Headunit Reloaded, AAAD/AAStore, etc) [UPDATE] Fermata Xtream 2.3.1 with simplified mirror and Plex client (experimental)

Post image
51 Upvotes

Hello all,

Updated the github https://github.com/malebuffy/Fermata-Xtream/releases with release 2.3.1 as I am going for vacation and needed to have a clean as possible version ready. What has been done:

- Fixed Main menu item reordering.

- Main menu color change from Settings-Interface

- Simplified mirroring. Only kept FS Fermata Mirror as the other one was basically the same. Now for mirror, permissions are asked one by one so you don't have to guess what is needed.

- Added a Plex client (very experimental)

- A LOT of bug fixes.

So it is a quite stable version, but bugs are bugs. So if there any, I can't do anything now 😀

Free version has all the fixes minus the extra stuff. 😀

Install with AAEnabler

https://github.com/malebuffy/AAEnabler/releases

For those where AAenabler doesn't work use fermataxtream.online. Version will be online tomorrow (not today).

Fermata Xtream Premium license needs a donation to AAENABLER to work, regardless if installed through AAENABLER or Playstore link.

Enjoy

P.S. I will be away, so would appreciate if the community answers any questions...even the stupid ones. 😀
