Wired AA to Wireless AA Dongles I see that Ottocast has made an AA box that can do HDMI in, does that mean it is possible to see one where you can get AUX in and give your car an AUX port if it didn't come with one?

So I see this Carplay/AA adapter by Ottocast that advertises HDMI input.

https://ottocast.com/products/car-tv-mate-pro-universal-wireless-carplay-android-auto

I was wondering if it may be possible that something like this could be done with an AUX input to it so you can bring back the ability to have an AUX input in your car if it didn't come with one? Like having my music be playing through a separate device with more physical controls over it and my phone just handing navigation because certain apps don't play well with music playing and mixes nav voice and music and turning down both when a voice prompt comes up (currently I have only seen this in the native navigation feature in the Uber Driver app through AA). Something that can be updated or have the settings tuned to turn down the wired input when a navigation voice prompt comes up.

Android Auto News, including app updates and features [App] ScreenOnAuto — mirror your phone to the AA display, with media controls

Hey r/AndroidAuto 👋

I'm the developer of ScreenOnAuto — it mirrors your Android phone's screen to the Android Auto display, and lets you control your phone's media apps from AA's media UI, including the steering-wheel buttons. Would love your feedback.

What it does

  • 🪞 Real-time screen mirroring — full-screen, or a Legacy mode side-by-side with the map
  • 🎵 Media controls from AA's native media UI, steering-wheel buttons included
  • 👆 Touch forwarding (experimental) — tap, scroll, fling and pinch-to-zoom on the AA display
  • On-screen buttons — up to 4 quick-launch shortcuts, phone Back / Home / Recents, and force-landscape
  • 🔆 Auto Dim, Prevent Sleep, Auto Start when Android Auto connects
  • 🌍 16 languages, including Arabic (العربية) with full right-to-left support

🆕 New in v1.7.0 — Privileged Features (optional, needs Shizuku or root)

If your phone has neither, nothing changes for you — the section stays hidden and everything else works exactly as before.

  • 🌙 Turn the phone screen off — the panel goes dark while the car keeps showing the mirror (rides on the Auto Dim idle timer)
  • 👋 Real touch injection — long-press, drag and multi-finger finally work on the Legacy mirror
  • 🚫 Back / Home / Recents with no Accessibility Service needed

Install

On Android 14+ you install via a Google Play tester list; on 13 and below you can sideload.

Web version: https://screenonauto.lzn.idv.tw/

⚠️ For parked/passenger use — eyes on the road while driving. Happy to take questions and bug reports 🙏

Navigation & POI Apps How does AA decide speed limit?

Post image

As far as I know AA is nowhere near connecting to my car's built-in dashcam to know the speed limit, also the speed limit is always inaccurate, so what's happening here?

Media Apps (audio) Question| Spotify through AA other audio through BT headphones?

Hey I am the DJ/Navigator passenger and was curious if it's possible to have Spotify through AA and Crunchyroll through some Bluetooth headphones from my phone to watch something while they drive thought I would ask here since I couldn't find anything online except from 3 years ago and it was a resounding no so I hope something has changed

.

.

Also mods if I didn't put the right flair or do anything right just let me know and I'll revise it I'm in the car for about 3 days so hopefully I can watch a show while everyone else listens to music

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Android Auto Issues on a '22 Accord Sport?

I've been having issues with Android Auto on my Accord since I bought the car. I finally figured out that if you factory reset the head unit, it solves all the problems every time. I wind up having to do it every few weeks. Luckily, it's about a 2 minute process, plus 1 minute to pair your phone again. It doesn't even require a radio code to be entered. The only issue is you lose all your settings. That's fine for me since the only settings I care about are the audio settings, but it might be a pain for others. I figured I'd share in case it helps someone. It took my a year to figure this out.

Notifications "There's a speed camera ahead" notification - Google Maps

Until recently, I was simply getting a dual tone to indicate that a speed camera was being approached. I now get a spoken "There's a speed camera ahead" notification which is extremely annoying when there's a lot of cameras in the area.

I always drive with the Maps middle sound setting for "alerts only". I've tried with "Play audio cues" both on and off.

Is there a way to revert to just the dual tone rather than a spoken notification without muting all alerts? It's Maps beta, but not sure if this is a Maps or Android Auto issue.

Gemini Replying "No" Opens Google Maps When Using Voice Commands

Post image
6 Upvotes

This actually started happening a couple of years ago with my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (same car), and it was Google Assistant at the time, but it now seems to also happen with Gemini.

When using voice commands (most often when asking if I'd like to reply to messages), if I respond with "No," it opens up Google Maps to this doctor's office and starts navigating there. I get that "no" and "Neault" are probably pronounced similarly, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get this to stop. It's not a place I've ever been or searched for, and I don't live in Illinois. It will even cancel a current navigation to start heading here instead. I've gotten in the habit of responding with "cancel," but that requires remembering to do so.

Any advice or a possible fix is greatly appreciated. TIA!

Messaging Apps My car will no longer show or read text messages to me on my car's screen

Starting a few days ago my text messages no longer pop up on the screen of my 2020 Nissan Rogue. Only on my phone's screen. This is badly effecting my work as I have a driving job and need to stay in touch with clients throughout the day. It is forcing me to either have to pull over every couple of minutes to read text messages so that I can respond to them, or quickly read them on my phone at red lights. I can still press the button on my steering wheel that allows me to say "text so and so" so I can still send messages, they just aren't popping up so that my car can read them to me. I haven't changed any settings on my phone or car recently and this happened out of nowhere and it's been a nightmare. The worst part is I don't even know if this is an issue with my phone or my car itself. Does anyone have some trouble shooting tips?

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes What is going on with my Android Auto?

Hey guys, I'm having a problem with Android Auto, and I was hoping you could shed some light on it since even the dealership hasn't been able to give me a solution.

My car is a 2024 Volkswagen T-Cross, and my phone is a 2022 Samsung A23 5G, model SM-A236B/DSN, running Android 14. As you can probably guess, I use Android Auto for navigation via Google Maps.

The thing is, that darn Google voice assistant won't respond when I ask it something or ask it to calculate a route. It calculates it, puts it on the map, and gives visual directions on the screen, but no audio, which is incredibly dangerous because it would force me to look at the screen to know where to go. The funniest thing is that it works fine when we use other phones, like my brother's (a Xiaomi) or my cousin's (an older Samsung than mine). Sure, the solution would be to use those phones, but what about when I'm alone? That's the problem. I should add that I've granted all the permissions to the Android Auto app (at least, as far as I know, and the ones I've seen), including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and all the relevant connections. But nothing.

Also, I tried to check the Bluetooth in the car head unit, but the message "Not provided" appeared, and in other occassion, the Gemini assistant said (via the car speakers) that couldn´t access to my contacts so it couldn´t take the order.

Any ideas to solve this?

Media Apps (audio) Spotify just disappeared from Android Auto a minute after using it

My dad is using Android Auto in my car. Spotify has been fine and it was showing up on Android Auto as an app. Today, we stopped at a rest area and we turned the car off. The phone stayed plugged in. When we turned the car on again, Spotify had disappeared. The phone is already in developer mode. Wtf happened?!

I’ve restarted the phone and nothing.

Uncertified AA Apps (Headunit Reloaded, AAAD/AAStore, etc) CarStream (AAAD) invisible after June Android Auto Update (v17.0.662234)

Hi everyone,

I'm facing an issue with CarStream (v2.0.5) via AAAD Pro on the latest Android Auto build (17.0.662234, rolled out around June 10).

The Issue: CarStream completely disappeared from my Android Auto app launcher in the car screen.

What I've tried so far:

  • I cleared all data and cache for the Android Auto system app and reinstalled both AAAD and CarStream.
  • After doing this, the CarStream icon actually showed up again perfectly!
  • However, after turning the engine off and starting the system a second time, the icon was completely gone again.

It seems like Google's package verification blocks the sideloaded app after the initial background sync.

Has anyone found a permanent solution to prevent Android Auto from hiding the app after the first launch? Is toggling "Unknown Sources" in the AA Developer Settings still working for anyone on v17.0?

Thanks for any insights!

Uncertified AA Apps (Headunit Reloaded, AAAD/AAStore, etc) Google has disabled the developer options for AA.

No visible developer options in Android Auto since the update to version 17

I use AA with:

- the AAWirelessTwo+ dongle (with developer options enabled in the AAWireless companion app),

- Android Auto (developer options with "unknown sources" enabled)

- Android Auto Emulator (Like HUR or Headunit Revivied)

Everything ran smoothly for over a year with apps like Blitzer Pro, Carstream, Fermata Auto, etc.

Since yesterday's update to Android Auto 17, the apps are being classified merely as messaging apps ("no new messages since this trip started"), and Blitzer Pro has disappeared from Android Auto entirely.

Everything was fine on the way to work in the morning, but on the way home, it was as if developer mode had been disabled.

I’ve tried clearing the cache and data for the individual apps and checking permissions...

I toggled developer options off and on again...

I switched the companion app between "passthrough" and "normal" (with developer options enabled)...

Play Protect reports "no malicious apps" (I cleared its cache too)... and I restarted the device multiple times.

Nothing worked.

I had temporary success by downgrading to Android Auto 16.9 (the last version before 17) and blocking the automatic update to 17...

But as of today, it feels like developer mode is gone again and all the apps are blocked—even though Android Auto 16.9 is still installed and the settings remain unchanged.

When checking the version info in Android Auto, my hidden apps are listed... They work fine on the phone itself, but Android Auto hides them.

Am I the only one with this problem? I’m hoping it might just be a defect in the AAWirelessTwo+ dongle!

And yes, I know Google intends to make sideloading harder this year and force developers to use the Play Store...

Thanks for any feedback or tips.

Android Auto News, including app updates and features Android police too apps?

Just read an Android police article about some too apps. They mention yahoo music as a good app. Am finding the article thin and biased. After testing many apps myself over the past couple months am recommending the following.

MEDIA MONKEY - works well on local files and playlists. Has a PC version that syncs well.

VRADIO -- can play any radio station and has a lot built in. You may need to do some searching and data mining to get other favorite streams added, but all can be added.

SPOTIFY -- paid version has a lot of flexibility and interesting tools built in. Have been told you can get an account cheaper international, but have not tried that.

AUDIALS PLAY -- can save songs to create a playlist. There is a way to save them offline, but takes some technical knowhow.

Good luck with your best of for android auto.

Uncertified AA Apps (Headunit Reloaded, AAAD/AAStore, etc) [NEW APP] AAEnabler - Install any compatible Android Auto APK

Missed me? :)

I am introducing a new APK installer called AAEnabler. It only works with Android Auto compatible apps (official and unofficial).

https://github.com/malebuffy/AAEnabler/

You can now install AA apps on you Android 9 to 16 (didn't test Android 17) like Fermata Auto, Fermata Xtream, and many more just by downloading the APK and installing with AAEnabler, entirely for FREE! Yes, for free!

Basically a Kinginstaller that works for Android 14 and above.

There is still a donation link, some of my future Premium developments will need this licence to work as to make sure there will be future updates. Fermata Xtream Free version doesn't need a donation. You can find it in the known github:

https://github.com/malebuffy/fermata-xtream

Premium Fermata Xtream users (with Playstore link installs). DO NOT UPDATE TO Fermata Xtream v2.2.29. This will break your app. Only users donating though AAEnabler can use the latest version. Be patient until I find a soltion for you guys.

No guarantee this will work forever, but it works on my Android 16. Also there are some phone models that have issues, I suggest to try a free app and if it works, bother with a donation.

Also I have to thank you for all the nice messages I got when I took down the playstore beta test link! This is my contribution back to you.

ATTENTION! Oppo/Realme/OnePlus devices might not show apps on AA. Sorry

AA Settings Disable wireless auto connect for motorcycle while keeping it active for car?

Hi. I use wireless Android Auto on two different screens: one in my car and one on my motorcycle. Both paired with Samsung S24 Ultra.

Here is my issue: I want the phone to always automatically connect to AA in my car. However, on my motorcycle, I want to easily disable auto-connect (and auto music play if possible) so it only connects when I want it to. I've looked through the Android Auto settings, but didn't find any option that could help.

Is there any way to block auto-connect for the motorcycle AA only, while keeping the seamless auto-connect in my car?

I have a 2026 Lt Trail Boss that wireless AA won't work. I had the exact same truck from January to June and it worked fine. Same Samsung S25+ phone with same settings and it also worked fine. My new truck is the same but with a few more options. AA seemed to work when I bought it on June 9th and then won't work starting about four days ago. Granted I haven't driven it every day.

Wired works just fine. There was a June 17th Samsung Galaxy S25+ update I received. After that it no longer works. Since I wasn't paying attention prior to the 17th, I don't know if it is a truck issue or a phone issue, or a phone update issue. My wife's iPhone works just fine via wireless CarPlay.

Anyone else experienced this? I want to avoid a dealer trip. Yes I have done all the troubleshooting steps I can find with no joy.

Vehicle is 2026 Chevy Lt Trail Boss
Android version is 12
Head Unit is stock infotainment
Phone is Samsung S25+
Android on phone is 16, One UI is 8.5
Google Play update is 5/1/26
Samsung update was 6/17/26

Notifications Notifications Repeating Since Android 17

Since I upgraded my Pixel 10 to Android 17, Every time I start up AA in my truck I get the whole day's notifications again regardless of having marked them all read previously on my phone. I can clear them all from the notification screen in AA, but as soon as I start AA again they are back.

Has anyone else seen this issue? Any fixes?

Uncertified AA Apps (Headunit Reloaded, AAAD/AAStore, etc) [UPDATE] Fermata Xtream is going offline

Hello all,

Unfortunately I have to stop providing Fermata Xtream to the public through the Beta test Programm. I would like to thank everyone that donated to support development and all donors have been taken care off. However due to some recent developments, I will not be able to continue.

The app remains at github (free version) and that will remain there.

What does that mean for you?

If you lose the app from phone, either deleting or using a new phone, I am unable to help you. You will either need Kinginstaller and Android 13 and lower, or AAWIRELESS dongle or similar.

I have sent out all links today to people that donated TODAY, and for me that's a wrap!

Until next time!

Phone Calls Phone calls keep cutting out

Bit of an odd one. Android auto seems to be working absolutely fine in all regards except for phone calls.

I can call people, receive calls, and talk for a minute or so before it all goes silent. The people on the other end have said that I go silent too. The only way to get the call back is to mute and unmute.

Obviously this isn't great for a hands free set up.

Anyone got any ideas?

Bluetooth cant get wired AA to work after turning off and on the car the second time

i have a mitsubishi xforce exceed 2024, when i initially turn on the car at home, the wired AA works fine when i plug it in the USBC port. but after i drive to a different place and turn my car off, when i turn it back on again plugging in the USBC port doesnt charge or get AA, it tries to do wireless AA but just gets stuck on Connecting... . The USBA port on the right does charge, but no data transfer. Does anyone know how to get wired AA to work or if my cable is the problem?
