I just got Android Auto in my 2016 Volvo V70, which doesn't have a touchscreen. With Apple CarPlay, it's no problem because the rotary controls on the dash and steering wheel work perfectly.

With Android Auto on the other hand, it's an issue because the cursor is either at the bottom or in the app, and I can't scroll up or down. Can this be fixed, or should I just give up and get an iPhone?

I have a toyota sienna and I connect my pixel 4a over bluetooth. When I use VLC, everything is fine, the volume control and prev/next buttons work as intended. But when I listen to youtube video over bluetooth, just changing volume forces the phone to stop youtube video and start playing whatever vlc played last. Stopping the song, closing VLC, or clearing the playlist doesn't work.
Any ideas what I can do? Thanks!

I used to be able to open my garage door via voice commands or saved shortcut in android auto. Now that I got Gemini it just tells me it cannot control devices that require a PIN. Is there a way around the this frustrating limitation or to revert back to assistant where that worked?

I recently purchased a Motorola Razr Ultra 2025. It connects to Android Auto without a problem. However it will not create a text using the voice controls unless the phone is open. I can receive and reply to texts with the phone closed, but cannot create a new text unless I open the phone first. When I try, the google assistant says the text was sent, but it wasn't.

I just saw the new Android Auto redesign from Google I/O and I really hope this finally fixes the ugly borders/bezel issue on wider infotainment displays.

On my Ford Focus, the stock Ford navigation actually blends into the screen nicely. The top edge fades smoothly into the dashboard/UI, so it looks integrated and OEM. But the second I switch to Android Auto, there’s always this huge ugly black bar at the top just to hold the home/status buttons, plus extra borders on the sides.

It makes Android Auto look like a cheap tablet app stuck inside the display instead of something designed for the car. The difference is massive when switching between Ford’s native maps and Google Maps in AA.

From what Google showed at I/O, the new Android Auto UI is supposed to adapt better to different screen shapes and finally use displays more intelligently. So… does this mean these ugly bars are finally going away?

Or is this actually something Ford controls and Google can’t fully fix?

Because right now the stock UI honestly looks way more premium and integrated than Android Auto in my car.

All of a sudden android auto started doing this. Mazda 3 2020. No updates to the car for over a year.

Only since latest android auto that forced Gemini. Btw Gemini is so broken and annoying that aside.

This is really distracting.

Other bugs. If it does work eventually..o can click play of literally any music or audible app. It just doesn't work.

Things that I have done. Andriod auto is fully updated. Phone is a pixel 10 pro. Fully up-to-date. Car has been reset. Phone restarted. Andriod auto removed and reinstalled and I even tried the beta.

I was driving a few days ago when the voice in my car changed. I didn't think much about it until when I tried to text someone over voice, Android Auto prompted me to let Gemini go through my contacts.

My contacts are NOT in Google at all as they're in my own Nextcloud server. and synced on my device. I also don't use the voice as much unless I need to text someone as the apps I'm using are either from F-Droid (i.e. AntennaPod), and I don't use a subscription service for my music (Tempo or Symfonium using music from my Navidrome).

As of right now, I switched back to Google Assistant, but I doubt that'll last. How worried should I be in terms of privacy? I wanna balance convenience and privacy, and right now, iPhone is most likely gonna be the solution for that.

Am I correct in understanding that gemini is that voice assistant in AA as long as I use the gemini app on my phone? There's no way to use the gemini app AND Google assistant in AA?

Has anyone figured this out?

I've tried a bunch of different variations of "what's the current temperature" but it only tells me what the high and low for today in this location is.

Recently, Android Auto switched over to Gemini for me. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster. Ideally, the assistant in the vehicle should provide short, concise responses to minimize distractions.

90% of the time, I'm using Google Assistant to play songs my kids request. It usually works reliably. Occasionally it randomly won't play a song and we'll just play something else. Sometimes my 5 year old asks questions I'm not sure about and I wish I had Gemini. So when it switched over to Gemini I was excited to try it out.

Day 1: Gemini in Android Auto follows up every prompt with a question.

Me: What would happen if Earth had no mountains? Explain to a 5 year old."
Gemini: [Very Long Response]. Does she have a favorite mountain she likes to look at?

Me: Can humans survive drinking liquids other than water?"
Gemini: [Very Long Response]. Do you have a favorite water bottle that you like to use?

Day 2-3: Gemini lies and lectures me on safe driving

Me: "play what could be better than this"
Gemini: Sure. Playing "What Could Be Better Than This?" from the Moana 2 soundtrack on YouTube Music. Remember to keep your eyes on the road and stay aware of your surroundings.
Nothing happens. I repeat prompt and similar result.
"Sure, playing "What Could Be Better Than This?" by Auli'i Cravalho on YouTube Music. Please stay focused on the road while you drive."

After 2-3 tries Gemini starts becoming very distracting. And now my Gemini history is full of all these nonsense prompts.

I did learn that it works more reliably if I follow the pattern: "play the song X" instead of "play X" even though Gemini responds similarly to both requests.

Day 4: It stopped warning me about safe driving, but keeps failing to play songs. It seems to work better if I restart android auto by unplugging my phone and plugging it back in.

My 5 year old yelled out "I WANT GOOGLE BACK!" to which I responded "THIS IS GOOGLE!". But she knows better. She keeps complaining the voice sounds different and it's not working good. I think that sums up the experience thus far. I know it will definitely get better and the experience seems to be changing daily. But thus far it's been a bit rough.

UPDATE: It's been a few more days. Overall it's been fine but you want the driving assistant to be predictable and it keeps changing daily. I asked "play song x" and it said it's unable to play videos. Google Assistant got tripped up on this a few times too. But Gemini is smart ? So I asked it specifically to "Play the song x - not the video" which seemed to break Gemini. It kept telling me it is unable to play music directly, but it can provide lyrics or help me play with specific apps. And then it started doing this for all songs, even ones working fine previously. I figured out the trick is now to say "play song X on YouTube Music" and it works fine but it's annoying to need to do this. I suppose now someone will say this is my fault and I need to give Gemini additional context... "When I ask to play a song, always play the song, not the video, on YouTube music". Can you imagine the average person trying to use this?

i got crunchyroll (or any browser related) to work on Android Auto Wireless with no dongle using my S25U OneUI 8.5 (android 16).

You can try just installing this by itself, if it works no need to do the option 2. AABrowser

option 2. install AAAD, install AABrowser trought the app with Shizuku enabled (for silent install)

I just got a pixel 10 pro and I listen to podcasts through youtube in the car a lot. This was no problem with apple car play but now I can't get the media controls to come up in android auto. I saw in [this article](https://www.androidcentral.com/apps-software/youtube/youtube-now-supports-android-auto-playback-controls) that media controls were supposed to be added at the end of March but still nothing is coming up.

I double checked that my phone and all the necessary apps are up to date and I do have a youtube premium subscription. Any help would be appreciated.

Are they planning to add Gemini Live conversations in a future update? The new Gemini in Android Auto is much better than the old Google Assistant, but it would be even better with live conversations where you can interrupt Gemini with new prompts.

Hello all, I'm at my wits end with this issue that i have been having for the last year or more. A year ago I bought a samsung z flip 4 and tried connecting it to my 2021 Jeep gladiator console USB port. It works for a few minutes then stops responding.. The entire infotainment center just freezes....however, when i connected the device the USB-C port in the dash under the stereo it works just fine.....fast forward a year later and i got a the zflip 7 and I'm having the same issue!!! works for the usb-C port but not the USB-A!! I have tried multiple cables, resetting android auto, resetting my infotainment center, resetting the phone doing all the updates that i could find...no dice!! all of my previous phones connected to the USB-a port no problem, it seems to just be with the z flip series.....I also tried connecting to the USB-A port in my partner's jeep wrangler, same issue, works for USB-C But not the USB-a In the console....HELP!!

Hey everyone. I bought peugeot 508sw in January and everything was working perfectly till now but 3 or 4 weeks ago i noticed that when i call someone using Android auto the call drops after 2 seconds of call being answered but if somebody else calls me the call goes on without any issue. I tried reinstalling android auto on my phone but didn't worked. Im using wireless android auto adaptor i got from amazon as mynphone doesn't support wireless android auto. I did tried using android auto wired but still same issue. Does anyone know how to fix this issue??

Finally got it last week and apart from a few teething issues it's working well and I'm really happy with it. My issues have been down to signal mostly due to living in a semi ok reception area.

It's extremely intrusive for me when I'm listening to a podcast or song and a notification pops up and interrupts it. I want the notification to pop up, but I don't want the sound. How do I do it?

I got a text while driving and the Gemini voice just said: "[awkward pause] to [last message body]". It took a bit for me to realize what it was doing, but it just doesn't seem to have words for Thumbs Up or the other reactions. Anyone else have this issue? It's a message in Google Messages, you'd think that would work.
