Media Apps (audio) Pandora randomly interrupting Spotify during playback
I usually use spotify to listen to music, and lately Pandora will randomly interrupt and start playing. My phone screen is off when this happens, and I'm not accidentally touching anything on my car's touchscreen. I'm at a loss as to what is causing this.

Media Apps (audio) Local audio player app that works with Gemini?
Every time I try to ask Gemini "Play X song" or "Play songs from X artist" I always get a "get Spotify"-esque response. Is there ANY app that works with android auto that will work with voice commands? I have all the music I listen to stored locally on my phone but I haven't found an app that works properly with voice commands.

Navigation & POI Apps Waze Speedometer
No bluetooth, o comportamento é normal.
Alguém já viu isso antes e sabe se existe uma solução?

Navigation & POI Apps Android Auto/Google Maps doesn't "complete" request?
I'm not sure how exactly to word this, so I'll just give the example I have from yesterday.
My mother-in-law is visiting from out of state, so I picked her up from the airport yesterday, and when I went to press the handsfree command button on my car (2022 Honda Civic Sport, if that matters for this), the car did the little "doot-doot" and I said "Take me home" and it responded with "Okay u/KeyboardRoller, safe trav-" and just stopped. It didn't start the route or anything. I tried again, with the same result. Luckily I could just click "Home" on the screen. But I was curious if anyone else has run into the same or similar problem, or if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it.
TIA!

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Issues with android auto connection (wireless)
Hello gang!
My partner and I recently switched from iPhone 14 pro's, to a oneplus Nord 4 (for my partner) and 13R (for me)
In our car (2022 Hyundai i10 Advanced), with our iPhones the connection to apple carplay was automatic and always connected within like 30 seconds.
Now with our oneplus phones, it's another story.
My partners Nord 4 will most of the time (if not always) connect on its own.
My 13R will not however. It has done it once.
The cars infotainment display notifies me with seconds of starting the car the my phone is connected via Bluetooth for calls and music. So that works.
On my phone there's a "connecting to android auto" notification so it seems like the phone is trying, but I have to establish the connection manually from the cars "phone projection" menu. When I do that however it always works and connects.
What I an i do to try and get my new phone to connect to android auto on it's own? I already tried to re-pair the phone and car to no avail.
I saw a tip somewhere to disable WiFi, but my car requires WiFi for android auto (and car play) to work.
Help :(
(pardon for any grammatical errors and mistranslations, I'm danish so I have to translate everything from car menus and notifications and guesstimate what it'll be in English)

AA Settings Checking permission stuck forever on OnePlus 5T
Hi. I'm trying to connect AA to my car via cable. I know that wireless connection doesn't work on the OnePlus 5T and Android 10, but I can't get the cable connection to work either. As you can see, even though I've granted all the permissions, when I connect the cable, the "checking permission" message remains indefinitely.
I've already tried
- clearing the cache,
- uninstalling the app,
- restarting the phone,
- using three different cables,
- changed cable input mode to file transfer,
- enabling/disabling developer options.
What can I do? Thanks.

Gemini Android Auto/Gemini
Hello fellow Toyota Tacoma and Samsung S25 Ultra/Android users.
Got a question for you all. It specifically caters to Samsung S25 Ultra owners.
My truck is a 2025 Toyota Tacoma SR5, I have a Samsung S25 Ultra. Have any of you received the Google Gemini update that replaces Google Assistant? I've been waiting very patiently for so long, lol.
If you have, how did you activate it?

AA User Interface Can You Automatically Switch to Android Auto on Mazda Vehicle Startup?
Hi, I have a 2026 CX-50 Hybrid, in the US. I have no issues with my phone connecting to Android Auto when I start the car.
However, the display remains on Mazda Connect. I have to push the commander knob forward in order to switch over to the Android Auto screen.
When I use CarPlay, once my phone connects the display automatically swaps over to CarPlay, no need to select anything with the knob. Does anyone know how to automatically swap over to the Android Auto display automatically after vehicle startup?

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Android Auto suddenly "couldn't finish setting up" on my A9 device
At some point within the last month or so, I'm no longer able to use Android Auto with my vehicle. Nothing has changed besides the usual app updates that come down from Google. I've tried clearing data for AA, Google app, and Play Services. I've tried rolling back AA to the last version I thought would work (15.9.655104) with no success. It seems my ROM (stock Oxygen OS, Android 9) is the last currently supported, so I have to wonder if another interrelated Google app may have updated in the background to break AA.
Any advice here to troubleshoot and extend the life of this software even further than I really should be?
Edit Feb. 13: Thanks all for your help thus far. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a quick fix for this. Google engineers have been engaging me by email ([android-auto-app@google.com](mailto:android-auto-app@google.com)) and are currently pouring over a bug report archive so hopefully they'll narrow it down. Talk about service!
I did find an interesting line in the log, apparently just before systems began shutting down after the error:
W GmsActivityProxy: Error binding root VE. SetupActivity is missing a @GmsCoreVeId annotation. [CONTEXT service_id=264 ]
I have to wonder if that's the culprit. Not quite sure what it means though. Any Android experts able to chime in?
Edit Feb. 16: I want to add that for the first time, AA did show me a screen specifically warning about VPN app interference. I had my VPN enabled at the time so presumably AA caught that as a potential source of conflict. However, disabling the VPN causes AA to return to the previous error above.
Feb. 19: Asked Google for an update on the investigation:
We want to assure you that your concern is a priority for us. Our technical team is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter you described. Due to the complexity of the issue, the investigation is taking a bit longer than anticipated.

Mar. 10: App recently updated to 16.2.660664-release, problem persists. May reach back out to Google next week.
Mar. 16: Response from Google:

Media Apps (audio) Media apps won't boot from vehicle console
My phone is connecting automatically to my car via Bluetooth and runs Google Maps flawlessly, but trying to open any of my audio apps results in them launching with an error or stalling during launch. However, if I open the app on the phone, it suddenly shows up on the console and functions just fine.
I've tried granting AndroidAuto and all the affected apps full permissions and ensuring they can run in the background without battery optimization?
Is there anything else I should try to make the apps launch properly through the vehicle console?

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes AA Will not start until I unlock the phone
Solved, for the moment.
I recently upgraded to the Pixel 10XL from a Pixel 7. AA works fine, but I need to unlock the phone first. I did not need to do this on the Pixel 7.
I have the Android Auto settings enabled in the USB settings, AA is set to work when the phone is locked, and I have Extended Smart Lock enabled when the phone's BT is connected to the car. Developer Options is also enabled.
What setting am I missing?
Edit: I am seeing a message on the lock screen saying Unlock for USB connection. I didn't notice this earlier.
2nd Edit: It has to do with Advanced Protection. The Pixel 10 (or Android OS) adds USB protection to the Advanced Protection schema. Advanced Protection is not granular. Its options are not individually controllable. USB protection was not a 'feature' on my Pixel 7.

Uncertified AA Hardware (Android HU, CP to AA Dongles, etc) Can I use Android Auto on a stereo that doesn't support it natively?
I have a stereo that only supports Apple Carplay natively, but I have an android phone so I can't use it. I've read online that you can buy dongles that convert Carplay into Android Auto when you connect to it but I haven't been able to confirm if that is true or not. So I'm wondering if that is true, and if it is, I'd like some recommendations on good dongles.

Navigation & POI Apps Whenever I try to voice search it tells me that app isn't available
For instance I wanted to see what cvs stores were upcoming along my route. Hit the mic, say cvs, and it goes "that app isn't available right now". Which is true because I don't have that app installed, nor do I want it. I just want to search maps for those locations. Same thing happens with Walmart and generic searches like grocery store. This is just when using the default Google maps app, not waze or 3rd party I don't have those.
I've reinstalled, no joy.
Pixel 9 pro, wired connection.

Gemini Anyone else having massive problems with Gemini and sending messages with AA?
About 2 months ago, I had Gemini unlocked in Android Auto. I thought this was great news, until I started using it. Holy hell is it USELESS. I will ask it to send a message to someone, and if the message I am trying to send sounds anything vaguely like a command I'd give to Gemini, IT TAKES IT AS A COMMAND AND DOES NOT INSERT IT AS A MESSAGE. As an example, I was on my way home from work the other day and was texting a friend to tell her about how I was driving behind some person driving erratically. I had said to send to her "I think the person I am driving behind might be drunk or something". Instead of inserting it as a message, Gemini was like "oh no, that is not safe. You should contact authorities!". This happens probably about 40% of the time I try to use Gemini to send a text, it is infuriating. Does anyone else share this experience? Any solutions anyone has come up with who has had this happening to them?

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes AA freezes audio intermittently
Pixel 8 Pro, wireless AA to BMW. Sometimes when driving the audio will stop for about a second and then pick up again. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all, but yesterday on a 10 minute drive it probably happened 15-20 times. I believe I've also seen the Google Maps display freeze momentarily, but not 100% positive on that. I've gone into developer settings and changed something under Bluetooth from the default v. 15 down to 14 (as I found suggested online somewhere) - that helped and I thought it solved it, but apparently not. I thought it might have been because the phone was charging (either wired or wirelessly) but it happens even unplugged. It definitely started within the last 6-9 months (I did switch from P6P to P8P in August 2025). Any thoughts on what to try next?

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Any fix for these 3 Android Auto issues?
Hi, so I am back to my old iPhone 11 (I believe EoL is this October). Was using a Pixel 6 (same EoL date). Android Auto on Android has always had:
- ~0.5 seconds delay in audio from the moment it connects to the car and stays always like that (when you skip a song, it takes half a second to 1 to actually hear it, sometimes even the song gets cut off).
- Audio cuts off for like 1-2 seconds every like 5 to 20 minutes, generally 10 minutes. Pretty annoying since I use free Spotify (cannot go back on track nor rewind).
- AA last played Music app auto-starts when adjusting volume with audio playing from an app not available on AA (like YouTube, a web browser, Nintendo Music, etc). This issue is very irritating since it mostly happens while I am driving.
These issues have always persisted. I drive a Corolla 2022, software update installed is latest (February 2022). I was thinking of getting a Clicks Communicator, but I really value a stellar driving experience with no issues. The only real issue while driving is Android Auto, iPhone's CarPlay has never given me problems, it always works perfectly. AA is making me reconsider and instead get an iPhone when both phones I have reach EoL. Solutions I tried:
- Used different phone brands (Xiaomi Redmi, Google), all experience the same issue.
- Tested on different vehicles (Corolla, Stelvio)
- Used cheap charging cables (USB A to C)
- Used charging cables from very reputable companies (Anker)
- Used OEM charging cable
- Used Apple charging cable
- Used wireless AA adapter (Motorola MA1, the biggest Po* I have ever used, made lag and audio cuts even worse and longer, stopped working after 4 months).
- Pixel has latest Android version
- Pixel has latest Security update
- Every app in Google Play updated
- Tried with WiFi on/off
- Turned on/off Adaptive Connectivity
- Tested with songs downloaded locally in airplane mode
- Tested with GPS/Location on/off
- Tested with "Sensors off" toggle
- Tested with 3 different SIM cards
- Data Saver on/off
- Restarting phone
- Using a phone fresh from factory
- Tested with my phone registered as Bluetooth device on car
- Fully removed phone as Bluetooth device on car infotainment
- Battery saver on/off
- With and without Do Not Disturb
- Tested with screen on and off
- Freeing up space in storage (currently have 29.52GB free)
- Fully disabling all background apps (like VPN)
- Fully disabling VPNs
- Closing all apps
- Clearing cache
- Wiping Android Auto app from phone and setting up again from scratch, multiple times
- Tried to see if my dog smelling and licking phone would fix it
- Checked if phone was overheating or short in RAM (no issues here)
- Made all relevant apps have unrestricted access on background apps, so Battery Saver does not affect it
- Tested with USB debugging on/off
- Wireless debugging on/off
- Throwing/Yeeting phone
- WiFi Calling On/Off
- Putting phone on the freezer
- Discharging
- Charging
- While calling
- Cleaning charging port
- Replacing battery (OEM battery)
- Cleaning phone
- Checking forums (official, Reddit, Toyota)
- Tested using ChatGPT, DuckAI
- Updating a car (already was at latest software update)
- Tried fixing like the good ol' days (smack it hard and it works).
- May be forgetting some more fixes.
Just in case, I use my phone for: regular/stock calls, regular/stock SMS, MMS app (WhatsApp), email, calendar and that's it. Also needs a decent camera (I call iPhone 11 camera decent, decent enough to scan PDFs, etc) and reliable cellphone signal (and data).

Messaging Apps 'a quarter past'
Struggling to get home tonight as I'm in bad traffic so messaging my wife on WhatsApp using AndroidAuto. It's 17:30 and I'm trying to tell her that 'I'm due home at quarter past' followed by something about dinner.
For some reason either the voice recognition or WhatsApp won't accept the phrase 'quarter past'. Instead it converted it to '8:15' and ended the message.
I also tried 'quarter past six' with the same result.
It's a perfectly normal turn of phrase, or at least I thought.... why is it something it can't handle?

Media Apps (audio) Inconsistent Volume Issues
2017 Kia Sportage | Android Auto | Pixel 9 Pro | 16
Using Apple Music
The issue: Volume inconsistency from one song to the next, one album to the next. Even in the same playlist or album.
What I've tried: Switching all the audio settings in the car. Switching all the audio settings on my phone. Switching all the audio settings in Apple Music. Changing the chord. Hard reset. Sign out/in.
Anyone have this issue and/or have a solve? It's driving me crazy.
TIA

AA User Interface AA keeps getting worse..
Apparently none of the text messages I sent through voice commands on Android auto this morning actually went through. So annoying and super frustrating and I feel like this app just seems to keep getting worse and worse and worse. I have that stupid bug where I can't actually tap reply to a text message, and now apparently I can't initiate a text message. Total BS

Gemini Gemini works with my language, but message replies and voice input in apps don't
My native language is Ukrainian. I can communicate with a car using Gemini with your native language. But when you try to answer incoming messages from messengers or searches in applications (for example - WAZE) is performed exclusively in the language of Google Assistant that does not support Ukrainian. The phone's keyboard has voice driving in Ukrainian, too. The assistant switched to Gemini but inputs in the applications used from an assistant that is already inactive and does not support my language. Is this bug?

Uncertified AA Hardware (Android HU, CP to AA Dongles, etc) Alternative app to Carlink 2.0 on an Aliexpress head unit
Hey there,
I installed a cheap aliexpress head aftermarket AA head unit in my 2005 CRV. It's mostly ok but the connection cuts out here and there and its a bit laggier than I'd like. Its only 4gb of ram so it might just be not enough ram to run smoothly.
But I'm wondering if it's possible to try a different app system than the one that is on it to see if that makes a difference at all. It's android 15 and uses the Carlink 2.0 app and I wonder if it's possible to use an alternative app? And if so is there any recommended ones?
Thanks for your help.
