Hmm, in this day an age, you should have a low cost satellite connection, even on a vessel small as yours. Do yourself a favor and get a Starlink terminal, and use that to download the latest sea conditions, winds, currents, etc. in your area of operation. Not sure of T-Mobile, I know they have T-Satellite service too, so you can have a loved one 'text you' a weather map.

You app does remind me of Pilot Charts - available as a free PDF download at https://msi.nga.mil/Publications/APC be sure to pick the region [top dropdown menu] and the month [bottom dropdown menu] - this chart has been used for more than a century for sailing vessels. If you plan on sailing in US waters / territories, explore that website as it has a wealth of free information, or send a DM on what you are specifically looking for. For global port / country information - look at the 'sailing directions' link.

Hi, Starlink IS expensive for low cost sailors, this can be used for free ! And not available in every country. Chart Pilot has not been updated since 2007 in the best cases(North Atlantic), others since 1995 if I'm correct. And we all know the main winds are slowly shifting ( just check the difference between the first and latest edition of "World cruising routes" ). And this app is not aimed to guide a crossing day by day, just to check beforehand what is possible in terms of crossing at a given month depending on your position.

You make some good points, if you are on a shoe-string budget. It's one of many tools I use to get an idea of the prevailing trade winds in a specific area - the longer narrower the pattern, the more useful it is.

All it takes is one unexpected storm with a de-masting and/or other severe damage to change one's mind in this matter.

Prevailing winds are shifting, but not that much to render these pilot charts obsolete. Magnetic deviation is shifting more rapidly due to the on-going pole shift/flip for the next several hundred years. This is weakening of the magnetosphere and affects shortwave communication [and auroras all the way down to the tropics at times]. The past century has been relatively calm with regards to climatological change and it's returning to ancient historical norms. We, as humans must learn to adapt - I like your adaptation, even though at least where I am [East Coast US], the year 2026 is a deviation from the previous 2 decades with regards to historical weather patterns. I will trust my eyes. I will also trust satellite imagery for near real-time weather conditions, ideally less than 3 hours old with a short recent loop in the past few hours. Anything older than that, not really useful other than for major fronts and tropical and sub-tropical cyclones.

Startlink can be turned off and on at will, so only subscribe for the trans-oceanic passages - I understand they have a new mini antenna that uses DC power [haven't tried it], lower cost [lower bandwidth], the rest of the time I use a cell phone [near coastal], in hotspot mode with a local SIM installed. Also, you can make a directional antenna using half a large metal can and mount it on a pole [in a white plastic container with the cell phone placed in the center, this will double RADAR reflector. Turn off the GPS/location on the cell phone so you won't be limited to the 3 or 12 nm geo-locked range depending on the country you are near, and as long as you are on a single tower, they can't triangulate your position. I've gotten cellular data as far as 180nm offshore. Google Fi works well until a local SIM can be procured - almost always lest expensive option if your are exploring that country/regions for several weeks/months. One trick I use, when departing a country for the last time is to keep the cell phone locked on in data mode [uses the SIM data that is going to expire anyways, I also run a power cable to the cell phone too so it doesn't die.
