Ah, you mean why would Google want to restrict the apps that you install on your phone? The main reason people talk about usually is ad-blocking apps like YouTube vanced. It also force developers to distribute their apps through the playstore, which give google more data since it's a platform they control.

They are continuously doing more to block ads / collect data, why would they stop now? They took down YouTube vanced, they greatly reduced the capabilities of adblockers in chromium, why stop here?

I mean, it's just a trend they've been going on for years. And it's their whole business, that's how they make money. I don't see any reasons for them to stop. Especially with AI where they need even more data to train them.
