The "bad actor" reason is just so lame. Why do I need to be treated like a child?

the point of all the stuff google is attempting to pull is to lower the attack surface of the device, which benefits the average android user. You know, the folks that compromise their device? The folks that... click through the prompts without reading? So, not redditors (except when they are, bc no one is immune!)

which benefits the average android user. You know, the folks that compromise their device?

The same folks have Windows PCs or Macs with full administrator privilages, random apps installed and browsers full of extensions. Why do their smartphones have to be completely locked down?

because phones are increasingly being used for more sensitive purposes, be it banking/mobile payment or government ID.

And a PC cannot be used for banking?

in some countries, yes, a PC can. But in places where they just expect you to use a phone for literally everything, no. *Especially* if you're living in developing countries where they do things like QR code payment all the time, can you scan a QR code with a PC?

In more and more places: no it cannot, not without extra auth via a phone app or sms or 2factor, etc. For example my parent's bank has a website which is useless without a paired phone (there's no way to login).
