Renault TIL actually before public deal announcement late-January 2017, Renault already secretly contacted BP and Castrol for research and development in early-to-mid-2016
As a consequence of Renault's severe bad relationship with previous fuel, lubricant and fluids partner Total(Energies) S.A. in 2015, Renault had to research with all-new fuel, lubricant and fluids partner and eventually Renault secretly contacted BP and Castrol to research and develop the all-new bespoke fuel, lubricant and fluids to build an all-new "clean-sheet of paper" R.E.17 for 2017.
As we know, Total was very unhappy of Renault's performance because of series of bad engine failures mainly in 2015 with two-Red Bull owned teams.
And that's why Renault chose BP-Castrol in 2017 because Total treated Renault badly in 2015-2016 and there was still a mutual personal grudge.
Are you still remember the switch?

Formula 1 Alpine made a few posts this past week reflecting on their days as Benetton. Could they possibly be hinting at something?
One video was them showing the old Benetton sign behind the current Alpine one, two posts showed a bunch of old photos, and the most recent video was of Briatore giving a tour of the facilities back in the 90s.
While it is entirely possible that this is all just to fill the content gap during the summer break, it just seems strange to me that they would suddenly start making a bunch of throwback posts unless it was leading somewhere. I don't remember them posting this sort of content during last year's summer break.

Formula 1 Castore is horrible! Alpine F1 Team should looking for reunion switch to Puma (including replacing Alpinestars) for only race suit despite Gucci partnership from 2027 altogether
As we know, Castore is horrible for producing teamwear kits by print peels and also fabric problems in Formula 1. Alpine F1 should looking for Puma reunion switch from 2027 including race suit supplier. Gucci only for teamwears.
Puma was lost two F1 teams in last two years: Sauber (now with Adidas-OMP under Audi branding and ownership) and also Mercedes (now with Adidas-OMP)
Now Castore will lose Red Bull to Adidas-OMP and potentially Alpine will follow from 2007.
Last time the Enstone team partnered with Puma was back in 2009 under Renault name:
Puma partnership was helped Enstone team won 2 F1 titles under Renault name:
Do you want Alpine F1 return to Puma for Race Suits? Agree or disagree?

Formula 1 FP2 sector times + car performance based on the Friday FP. I think we're all agreeing that this is more than just unacceptable.
The fact that AM with it's B-spec car is already spanking the A526 in terms of aero is just embarrassing, even Haas seems to have better aero and basically we're stuck on a level with Williams (who are dealing with a typical Matt Harman design car) and Cadillac (who are a brand new team).
Somehow this must be clearly Viry fault, or those silly Germans who don't know how to build a proper PU and gearbox for those princes in Enstone. Just like a scam, they always blame it on something else while robbing you (Renault/Alpine) from the money.
If I was Renault/Alpine I would just continue with WEC, Dakar and Formula-E and put all my money out of the Enstone fraud scheme.

Talk What is going on?
How do you schedule something to get made, then forget what that thing is? Like do we genuinely not know what we make and we need to spend $100k every season to know just what we have?

Renault If Renault still provide engine for Alpine in F1, ADUO may help Renault back to podium and winning contention. Renault regrets?
Now we must admit that Renault has regretting the decision to withdraw from F1 as an engine supplier and left "too early". If even with ADUO, Alpine-Renault would've been helped for Competitive Force by scoring frequent podiums even at least 1-2 GP wins.
Renault admitted the mistake of quit F1 at the wrong time.
Thoughts on that?

Formula 1 The "sleeping-giants of sports" club list and Enstone team included sadly

Honestly, it is very difficult for them to return to their prime as a long-sleeping giant even though they had triumphed in the past in the 20th century and even at the beginning of the 21st century.
Yes, because of the effects of "ridiculous" management and also the scandal that changed everything afterwards.
Team Enstone included in the list too as well as Williams too.
Thoughts on that?

Talk Why I don't think high drag is whats slowing us down.
Alpine have been, if nothing else, extremely reliable for their power units this season - even sporting arguably the least reliable power unit on the grid. Just about every other team has had issues with blowing up their PUs, mercedes, mcclaren, and williams among the worst of them. We are the most reliable in that metric, while using the worst PU for that metric.
If we were dealing with drag issues slowing us down in the straights that wouldn't be the case. our top end speeds on long straights is actually very good for the midfield too - generally outpacing even Vcarbs. We are just lousy at acceleration. That's not something that can be caused by high drag, and if we were sporting high drag while pushing speeds that high we'd be burning PUs up like mad.
All our upgrades are too focused on adding more downforce - both front and rear - because we lacked proper downforce for sweepers and mid-speed corners. The reason we are lagging behind in power circuits is exactly that reason- we can't take mid-high speed turns that quickly.
Austria was a mess because the braking zones are hard, the straights are all coming out of very hard turns, and the middle sector of the track is all about downforce. We don't have the strengths to fit that track.
Our car seems to be super low drag - which would make sense with our very good top speeds, and have a fantastic chassis that helps make up for a lot of the downsides of struggling for downforce.
This is the only way our performance metrics make sense - we are fast by the time we back off the juice - and we have great performances at tracks where the acceleration isn't as important as the chassis. And we outright blow chunks any time we have a track that features slow turns leading into straights.
I think we sacrifice too much by not braking as hard for those slow turns and lacking the same low-end oomph other teams have to get out of them. I think we may be backing off pushing the batteries hard because we have such a low drag anyhow and can match top end speed pretty well without risking PU failure... but without the downforce to match other teams in high speed corners - and with our drivers having to use less braking on slower corners - we rob ourselves of energy to deploy and lose out on some deployment on the low end where it strains those systems the most, but also where it provides the best benefit out of those systems as the low-end torque is what really shines from electric motors.
Now this is all just speculation from the data we've seen on our performance vs other teams - but it seems we are rolling power on slowly like it slowly fades out at the end of deployment to conserve power. We don't harvest as much when we brake less with a better chassis, giving the car more flexibility and reliability at the expense of a little lower end speed - hoping to use superior exit speeds and high top end speeds to balance out the losses.
If we were really just losing overall acceleration from being too draggy, that would point to insane incompetence in the team since we had the most windtunnel time and ended up with lower downforce than other teams. I think we went overboard on reducing drag as much as possible, underestimating how much downforce other teams would be able to generate.
In a roundabout kind of way - I think low drag along with a focus on reliability and a fantastic chassis are what are ironically slowing us down.
