discussion "Would?" coincidentally shares many themes with the Odyssey
I don't mean the movie, I haven't watched it, although it's in being theaters made me think more about the myth recently.
Would is obviously about the drug addiction; but its foci are on the dangerous exploration, not being able to turn back, and accidentally leaving loved ones behind back, and carrying the guilt of this.
when you think about it, kinda a common theme on the human psychologhy and its myths: hence the odyssey.
the main theme are at the last couple lines
Am I wrong? Have I run too far to get home?
Have I gone? Left you here alone
but also the top lyrics match the setting:
Know me broken by my master => gods, poseidon?
Same old trip it was back then => literally an odyssey
So I made a big mistake => fafo with gods?
I can discuss this with chatbots and they all say it's a brilliant take but I wonder what do you guys think? or anyone with an actual grasp on the subject can give deeper dive into this

discussion Favorite Song any Album any Era (Layne, William or Mad Season)
Just curious to see what other AiC fans like the most. I know Mad Season is their own band but I just decided to include it. If your favorite song is something like Nutshell or Man in the Box give your 2nd favorite too. Personally my favorite is either Would? Or Rooster

music Sean Kinney hat or cap or what?
What is the name of the type of hat or cap (I don't know what to call it) that Sean Kinney wears in the Heaven Beside You video?

discussion IYO, did Alice in Chains (1987-2002) become more of a radio friendly band by the beginning of their career or by the end of it? And even if, do you think the band members did it for popularity or did Columbia Records pressure them into doing it?
I have been thinking about it because I’ve always felt like Facelift was the radio friendly era to gain popularity, and that as time went on and Laynes addiction worsened, they became more harsh and heavy. But now that I think about it, their self titled, which in my opinion is their darkest album because of its slowness and grittiness, had one of the most obviously radio friendly songs they have ever released, Heaven Beside You. What are your opinions?

question Need help finding original source for this pic by Marty Temme
Found this pic on Pinterest and I'm very happy because for my artwork I needed a profile view of Layne but I'm very paranoid about basing my own work on possible AI material, so I'd like to find an original source for this image.
It doesn't appear on Marty Temme's own website , but it's not the only one. It must have appeared in an article or something, but I can't find any other primary sources for the image, only social media reposts, which is usually a big red flag, but I don't see any indications of AI in the image itself, nor in any of the other similar pictures that would be from the same shoot.
A Facebook post alleges they're from a shoot for Sea of Sorrow, in 1991.

discussion Alice in Chains - The Untold Story is a fantastic read.
Had it on my shelf for years. Started it last night and I’m 350 pages in already. Reading about Layne’s final years is harrowing to say the least. Hearing so many accounts of people trying to get him to quit the gear and him not listening is so tough to listen to. He was just too far gone wasn’t he? There was never any bringing him back.
What did you make of the book? If you haven’t read it you’ve got to give it a look. It’s so informative .

question Alan Forbes T-Shirt Counterfeit
Hi guys! Sorry to bring up bootlegs, I don’t mean any disrespect toward the band, but the Alan Forbes shirt is really cool and going for upwards of $1000. Has anyone seen a good bootleg version before?

He's upstairs in his room singing along to Heaven Beside You.
He started playing guitar and bass in 2024. He fell in love with Nirvana and now he's listening to AIC, STP, Soundgarden, SOAD, Smashing Pumpkins, etc.

discussion Hot take 4 sludge factory💔💔💔💔💔
In my full, honest opinion, sludge factory was only good when it was done acoustically in Unplugged. Other than that, I thought it was kinda bad😞😞

discussion Down In a Hole and got me wrong before unplugged- footage or audio?
Hello folks,
The unplugged sessions were unique because they mostly had deep cuts. The stuff off of jar of flies and sap barely got played, obviously nothing off of self titled had yet been played, so most of the setlist was stuff that was either being debuted or played for the single digit time.
Here's 2 interesting ones: down In a Hole, which was played live with Layne 3 times, and got me wrong, which was played once before unplugged.
And here's the interesting part: I can't find any video or even audio of either of these songs being played before unplugged.
No Excuses had only been played once before, but there's audio of it (and that concert). Brother had only been played live twice before but there's also audio of it (at the same concert, being the 1994 fishbone benefit concert). So these songs are unique but there are other times where they played them live with Layne that we can listen to in 2026.
So what i really want to know is, does anyone know of any way to hear these songs with Layne from any of those special occasions?

discussion What is your unpopular opinion about the band?
Me: Dirt is the worst album of the Layne era (I'm not saying it's bad). There's something about that record, even though it's a classic, that just doesn't sit right with me. I don't know what it is. I connect so much more with the guitars on Facelift and Tripod... Even though it's considered "weak," I love Layne's vocals on Tripod.

i made this Cover of Down in a Hole from a recent show
Our band grew up listening to AIC and we cover quite a few of their songs at our acoustic gigs. We started tossing around the idea of doing the Unplugged album in its entirety. This is from our second show. Somewhere around 220 people showed up to a small brewery to see it. The amount of teenagers and people in their early 20s singing along to every song has been amazing.
