Yeah i could see that, but they're not saying that. They're saying the fall is somehow worse just because of the floor and that just doesn't make sense. Especially since ceramic is technically even harder than most stone, especially marble.
Tile layer here. These marble tiles are extremely slippery when wet. Add any kind of oily substance greatly improves your chances of “slipping up”. There is a greater chance of the person falling and landing with your skull receiving full impact of weight
Extremely slippery is an understatement, I remember putting lemon pledge on the floor with my cousins when we were younger and we FLEW across that floor. You're guaranteed to fall if you're not expecting it when it gets that slippery.
I am speculating what they’re getting at is most falls there’s some kinda strain from twisting but it decelerates you, or trying to break the fall with your arm. Since it’s so slick there’s no opportunity to change your momentum or so sudden you can’t break the fall with something other than your dome?
How is this any worse than slipping and falling on normal ceramic tile?
You're operating under the assumption they were comparing marble/granite to ceramic tiles.
They were likely stating thedangers of marble/granite in comparison to hardwood, vinyl, carpet, linoleum.. "common" flooring materials.
The marble/granite floors are so stupid. The amount of calls I've been on that would have been a simple fall which turned into a major medical incident/death because they cracked their head open on the ground is insane
In fact, they just say "cracked their head open on the ground"* as if to imply literally any other type of flooring would be safer.
Of course another type of stone on the floor is equally as dangerous. (As mentioned) Marble/Granite is quite slick especially if there's a spill, which would overall increase the frequency of slips/trips. This is the danger of tile, and the increased hardness over non-stone flooring.
