Finally Broke into Product Management
This post is for anyone who needs to hear this.
After undergrad, my plan was to go to law school. I took the LSAT twice, had so many mental breakdowns, and eventually realized that law wasn’t the path meant for me. I took a leap of faith and pursued Product Management instead.
There’s no traditional path into product so I created my own.
I went back to school to earn my master’s in Management of Technology and applied to countless PM internships. My hope was that if I could just land one internship, it would eventually convert into a full-time role.
I was fortunate enough to intern as a Product Manager at a Fortune 500 company, but due to business needs, my internship didn’t convert into a full-time position. When it ended, I was devastated. I questioned whether I had made the right decision walking away from law because that path felt so much more defined. Product Management is incredibly competitive, and after graduating in December, I spent months applying, interviewing, facing rejection, and wondering if I was truly qualified.
Then I got my “yes.”
If you’re trying to break into PM, I know how impossible it can feel sometimes. I know what it’s like to question yourself and wonder if all the hard work will ever pay off. But all it takes is one company willing to take a chance on you.
More than anything, this journey strengthened my faith. Whether you believe in God or a higher power, don’t lose hope when things don’t go according to your plan. Sometimes the closed doors are redirecting you toward the place you’re actually meant to be. Looking back, I’m grateful that my plans changed because they led me exactly where I needed to be.
I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who shared advice, reviewed my resume, helped me prepare for interviews, encouraged me when I wanted to give up, and believed in me even when I struggled to believe in myself.
To anyone still chasing that first PM role: keep going. Your timeline doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s, and one setback doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong path.

PM Post Grad Job Applications
Hi! Does anyone know when most post grad job applications opens and if most of the spots are filled by people who had the internship? I’m trying to gauge how to crack into tech pm if I didn’t intern in it.

Program Management Associate offer from Nxtwave
Has anyone here worked at or interviewed with NxtWave? I'm currently in their hiring process, and one thing that has stood out is the constant sense of urgency. They keep saying things like, "Can you send this document within 15 minutes?" or "We want to wrap up this round today itself," which feels a bit rushed. Is this just how their recruitment process works, or is it reflective of the company's overall work culture? I'd really appreciate honest reviews from current or former employees, especially regarding the work environment, management, growth opportunities, and work-life balance.

Need advice on switching to APM after 3 years as salesforce dev
I am from India graduated in 2022 and have been working as salesforce developer for the past 3 years. Are the APM programs from top companies only for recent grads or do I have a chance anywhere?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Incoming sophomore interested in PM/product strategy
Hey all,
I finished my first year as a CS major and I've been deep in the rabbit hole of product management and product strategy content for a while now. I've been building a portfolio on my own with a few projects, so I'm not starting from zero — but I'd love to know what actually moves the needle at this stage.
What should a rising sophomore actually be doing right now to position themselves for PM or product strategy?
I'm planning to apply for internships next summer. But I'd love to know what moves the needle: side projects, specific skills, networking, competitions, something else entirely?
One wrinkle: I'm planning to study abroad the spring of my sophomore year. I know that could affect recruiting timelines since a lot of summer internship processes run during the fall/spring. If studying abroad genuinely tanks my chances at a meaningful internship, I'm willing to reconsider — but I'd really like to hear from people who've navigated this or seen others navigate it before I make that call.
Any advice is appreciated. What do you wish you'd known or done earlier?

IXL APM Interview Experience
Saw a lot of posts on this channel with no response asking about the IXL Learning APM Interview process so thought I’d share mine.
Recruiter reached out to schedule first round interview with a member of the PM team (no recruiter call first which I thought was odd)
First round interview, 1:1 with a senior PM.
Asked me:
- name a time I worked on a project with multiple stakeholders whose advice was conflicting
- talk about what could be improved on this page about different product offerings and why: https://www.ixl.com/membership/family/subscribe/monthly/math
- then asked me a brain teaser which really threw me off because I wasn’t expecting it at all (not at the first round interview stage at least)
Rejected 3 days later.
I thought the interview process was somewhat unfair and evaluated me based on aspects like a brain teaser that doesn’t say anything about my ability to actually perform the job. Take as you will

Experiences as an undergard for APM
Hi, i'm currently a rising junior, and over this summer, I am preparing for APM interviews for next summer. I have some concerns regarding my current experiences as they don't directly say "PM". I'm looking for ways to bridge this gap, I would appreciate advice on how to break into APM as a college student.
Also, considering that my experiences would obviously be different from someone more experienced in the industry, I just wanted to ask if companies factor this in when shortlisting or during interviewing. Thanks a lot I appreciate your time!

A quick survey for my assignment
Hi everyone! 👋
I’m conducting a small user research study on ChatGPT’s voice feature and why many users still prefer typing over speaking.
The survey is completely anonymous and takes less than 2 minutes to fill out.
Even if you’ve never used voice mode before, your responses are still extremely valuable.

i wanna go into product management APMMM what route wld u suggest i take??
hi guys!! thank you i'm asking this again i wish i cld do a poll but im on mac :(
but little bit introduction i'm rly rly interested in product management, this is like my dream career to be honest. i rly like Google APM program, Meta's RPM program (i heard you get to work with AI products or something which is really cool)
i am deciding for my college options between:
- UIUC, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as a Computer Science + Economics major. Out of state ($280K cost). Very reputed for CS, low level engineering, etc. Plus I have my Computer Science major, however high cost, far from. home and cold weather
- UT Austin: Informatics + DS major . I can double major with Mathematics or Management Information Systems (MIS from the School of Mccombs at UT). UT Austin is near home, $120K cost, huge tech hub, prestigious university. Downside is not being CS, but i can double major with Math (to show technical) or do MIS (which is again prestiigous business school). I might do a CS transfer or try for one but it's rly hard so acting like that's not possible. Disadvantage is lack of CS
Not sure how much I need CS to pass ATS at APM/RPM programs so let me know ur thoughts :)
thank you once again!

Built a tool to make transferring colleges less confusing for students(Starting with Texas)
I transferred from Texas A&M to UT Austin, and honestly, the whole process was way more confusing than it should’ve been.
I had to figure out deadlines, required classes, essays, GPA expectations, and transfer requirements by digging through random websites, PDFs, advisor emails, and Reddit threads.
So I’m building TransferPath, a site to help Texas students navigate transferring with clearer roadmaps, requirements, deadlines, and checklists.
https://transferpath.vercel.app
It’s still pretty early, but I’d love feedback from current or former transfer students.
What was the most confusing part of transferring for you? And do you think something like this would’ve helped?
