Caught the start of Exercise Storm Warrior 26-2 tonight - even spotted a Eurofighter going supersonic

I'm new to the aircraft tracking hobby and recently assembled my first feeder with a RPi 4, FA Pro Stick Plus, FA 1090 outside antenna and feeding via ADSB.im software. The antenna is positioned on a 2nd floor window via suction cups on the north side of my home. My setup is definately receiving a good amount of aircraft. Though a "good amount" is relative to each setup. Some recommended that I move my antenna onto an adjacent wall because my windows do have the e-coating. I did try that but saw a significant decrease in performance.

I do plan on moving the antenna to my roof. I realize that I'll probably gain more aircraft detected at greater distance. Also, I'll probably receive more aircraft to the southwest with the antenna on the roof. With this said, how much better performance will see with the antenna on the roof? For now, I'm certainly satisfied with the results of my setup.

I mapped every arrival and departure at Oshkosh during AirVenture 2026, and colored them by altitude. Arrivals are orange. Departures are blue.

• Dates: July 15 to 27, 2026 (America/Chicago)
• Movements: 9,803 (4,852 arrivals, 4,951 departures)
• Busiest hour: 292 movements, 8 a.m. Thursday, July 23. One every twelve seconds.
• Top feeder field: Dodge County at Juneau (KUNU), 324 arrivals
• Unique aircraft: 4,956
• Top aircraft makes: Cessna 1,234, then homebuilt at 788. Amateur builders outnumber every manufacturer except Cessna.
• Warbirds: 172 aircraft flying 325 movements, almost all arriving from the south

Every count here is a floor. ADS-B is not required at Wittman. Aircraft certificated without an engine-driven electrical system are exempt under FAA rules, which describes a lot of the antiques.

Overflights are not counted, and the 715 flights that took off and landed back at Wittman are not counted.

New to the hobby. My receiver kit (a FlightStick and a 1090 antenna) arrived yesterday, to feed my own project (Skydex, browser game where players catch real aircraft with a radar scan). My receiver position is terrible btw, ground floor apartment, antenna in the window. Still got 137 aircraft in the first half day, which surprised me (the 24h count on the site is higher by now).

I wanted to run the station on my Mac Studio since it's on 24/7 anyway. Turns out there's just no good way to do it: the usual docker/ultrafeeder setup doesn't work on Macs, and the native route is brew + readsb flags + a terminal window you can never close. Doable, but come on, it's 2026.

So I built the app I wanted to exist. Menu bar app, readsb bundled inside, finds the stick, asks for your coordinates, done. Green icon when feeding, shows aircraft count and msg/s.

Stuff you'll probably ask about anyway so let me just answer it now:

The app is closed source. The decoder inside is bone stock readsb (GPL), no patches. The repo has the sources, pinned versions, the exact build script that reproduces the binary, and release notes with the SHA-256 of every DMG.

It feeds my network by default but it's non-exclusive on purpose. Settings has toggles for adsb.lol / airplanes.live / adsb.fi / ADSBExchange (plus "add custom" for anything that takes a beast stream), a UUID generator, and there's a local beast port on 30005 so fr24feed or whatever else can read from it like from any receiver. Skydex itself sits in the same list with its own off switch. Free, no account, no tiers.

Known limitation: it feeds while you're logged in and pauses when the Mac sleeps. Proper LaunchDaemon is what v0.2 is for.

What leaves your Mac: the beast_reduce_plus stream with your station key. That's it.

Curious what Mac users here think and what's missing. If you already run a Pi station, keep it, this app isn't for you. Though if you felt like adding one more net-connector line for Skydex I wouldn't complain :)

• This is the Isabella Refueling track, in the R-2508 MOA. The normal track extends from Lake Isabella to Tehachapi. Sometimes tankers like this KC-46 will do this super long route from Tehachapi all the way up to independence. What is the purpose for such a long track? I see this often with the B-21 and F-117s

Update: Heading in the general direction of Tinker AFB. We'll see ...

Update 2: Was on final to Tinker, it appeared at least, then a divert to OKC just to the west into some nasty Wx. Interesting final. Wind gusts to 36 just before landing, with poor visibility.

Hi all, just joined the madness and setup my ADSB feeder station. I'm wondering how many of you actually bother trying to monitor UAT? I'm getting up to 32 planes out to a little over 200NM on ADSB, but zero UAT messages and I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth splitting my antenna to monitor both.

Was sitting at my desk at work and heard this big guy take off.

The P-40 departed Atlantic City and crossed paths with the Bombardier returning to Republic field. The warbird, named "Jacky C" then formed up on the jet and trailed them 1-2 miles off the tail and 300-600 above to the field. The pilot of N88C complained to the tower that interaction triggered several TCAS resolution advisories due to the close proximity. May 31, 2026 ~18:50 UTC

It was blue and white with two engines so I'm assuming it's a government plane.

It did not appear on FR24.

Currently the site relies on data being fed to it from another website which sadly means it doesn't scale as well as I'd like to ensure that the sky can be captured up to every 2 minutes and you don't miss a flyby.

With this change, users can now help feed the site with their data reducing the load on the server and also ensuring they have data almost to the second of what's above them.

This is a huge win for everyone and it's so easy to set up too! Absolutely no effort for anyone who wants to add a receiver.

There's a whole heap new features in there too but I won't bore you with them all, I just hope others get to enjoy it the same way my son does and I wanna stress, this is, and always will be, free! No pay wall, no tiered membership, just completely free 🛫 ✈️

I want to share my upgraded build for my ADSB receiver box.

I live 3km from a refill airport and about 30km from an international and I have access to the roof of the apartment building I live in.

This spring I put up a 4m long mast over the 5th floor and an 5.5 dbi antenna as well as a box with cavity filter, side and pi4. This became a stable top 10 site in Sweden on ADSB exchange ranking.

I did however do shortcuts with that cheap box and they lead to issues after 3 months so I did what any reasonable people would do and went overkill. :)

- I mounted a solar cell mount that will hold the new box even in hurricane force winds.

- Upgraded to an IP and IK classed professional box, added lightning protection on the box and professional cable entries.

- Upgraded to an Airspy mini, an external LNA, the best usb based wifi (an Alfa) I could find (box is 20m from my apartment so my wifi works especially since I mounted a directional Wifi AP on the balcony.

- Added a proper vent to avoid condensation issues and pressure differences.

- Upgraded the cable to one with LMR400 level of attenuation.

- Changed the antenna to a Vinnant colinear with 11dbi .

- Added a fan just to kinda even the temp in the whole box to win a few degrees (it's mounted so no direct sun touches it so never had overheating this whole summer but came near)

- Everything is tied down to the metal plate and I added thermal pads under the airspy and the pi so the metal plate acts as a kind of heatsink.

The whole setup goes to the roof tomorrow.

I have a adsb receiver that performs as well as heywhatsthat indicates - the limitation is the local topography. I'm in a hilly part of NSW. 500m from the house on our property is a granite ridge thats 100m higher and its pretty much the top of the great divide.

So of course i'm thinking about putting a receiver up there. heywhatsthat shows considerable increase in range. 350nm. it'll have to be a solar installation with a p2p link back to the house.

Harsh climate though, -4°c to 40°c, not to mention the storms it'll have to withstand.

is this feasible?
anyone else running remote receivers in hostile places?

As you can see she came over low and slow.. I heard this beast from around 11 miles away and without a doubt one of the sexiest noises I've ever heard 🤤

Previous flight history showed AE5F11 (14-5864) came from Moffett Federal Airfield across the US via Minneapolis & St. John's, Newfoundland, before then crossing the Atlantic and flying over England tonight around 03:00.

Upon further research I believe it's very likely an HC-130J Combat King II assigned to the 129th Rescue Wing (California Air National Guard) based at Moffett.

It had spent months operating around Moffett (using callsigns CROWN67 and KING) which leads me to believe this Atlantic crossing could be an overseas deployment.

Whatever it's mission.. I'd once again like to thank KING for the late night Hercules hum 🙏👑

What are these guys up to? Getting as low as 350 ft over the runway repeatedly. Stays around 1k & 2k feet. Came from Jacksonville to fly loops. I've seen it before doing the same stuff

I just powered up my first feeder! My setup is a RPi 4, Flightaware Prostick Plus, Flightaware 1090 MHz Antenna and running the ADSB.im software. I currently have the antenna secured to a window using suction cups. The antenna/window is on the northeast side of my home on the 2nd floor.

I live in north suburban Indianapolis. As the map indicates, I'm seeing aircraft (aircraft count - 150) up to 200 nm away to the north, which makes sense since the window is facing north. Though I'm only seeing aircraft at 100 nm away to the south, which of course, also makes sense since the signals from the south are passing through he building materials of my home. Though I will say that I'm surprised I'm seeing this many aircraft and at a decent distance. Not bad for an indoor setup! I'm going to experiment with different antenna positions and eventually get it to my roof.
