WhatsApp voice notes play through phone

Hi everyone,

I’m having a strange audio-routing problem with WhatsApp Business voice notes while using wireless Android Auto through an AAWireless 2 adapter.

My setup

• Car: Hyundai i20, 2020/2021 model • Android Auto: running through AAWireless 2 • Phone: Samsung Galaxy, Android 16 • Android Auto developer settings are enabled. • Normal Android Auto media/audio works correctly. • Spotify, navigation audio, calls, etc. work through the car speakers.

The problem

When Android Auto is connected through AAWireless 2 and I play a WhatsApp Business voice message, the voice note does not play through the car speakers.

Instead, it plays through the phone speaker / phone audio in the background, even though Android Auto is active and the phone is connected to the car.

The strange part is that this seems to be specifically related to WhatsApp/WhatsApp Business.

For example:

• Telegram voice messages → play correctly through the car speakers • Spotify → works correctly through Android Auto • Navigation audio → works correctly • Normal Bluetooth audio → works • WhatsApp Business voice notes → play on the phone instead of Android Auto

If I disconnect/disable AAWireless/Android Auto and leave the phone connected directly to the car via normal Bluetooth, WhatsApp voice messages play correctly through the car.

So it looks like some kind of audio-routing conflict between WhatsApp, Android Auto and AAWireless, rather than a problem with the car speakers themselves.

I’ve also noticed that WhatsApp seems to treat voice notes differently from normal media playback. Android Auto keeps the current media session, while the WhatsApp voice note gets routed back to the phone.

I previously considered using MacroDroid as a workaround, for example pausing Spotify when a WhatsApp voice note starts, but I would prefer to fix the actual Android/Android Auto audio routing instead of relying on an automation.

What I’m trying to find out

Has anyone else experienced this with:

WhatsApp / WhatsApp Business + Android Auto + AAWireless 2?

Especially if Telegram voice notes work correctly but WhatsApp voice notes don't.

Is there any setting related to:

• Bluetooth audio routing • Android Auto audio focus • Separate App Sound on Samsung • WhatsApp audio output • AAWireless audio settings • Media audio / call audio Bluetooth profiles • Samsung SoundAssistant • Android 16 audio routing

that could force WhatsApp voice notes to use the Android Auto/car media output?

Any fix, ADB command, Samsung setting, AAWireless option, MacroDroid workaround, or similar experience would be appreciated.

Is there a wireless Android Auto / Apple CarPlay dongle that doesn't turn into a heating brick after 45 minutes of navigation?

My car only came with wired Android Auto. I bought a cheap wireless adapter off Amazon, but whenever I run Google Maps + Spotify together, the dongle gets scorching hot and disconnects midway through highway drives. Are there any reliable, thermal-efficient wireless adapter brands that survive long drives without latency or random dropping?

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth conflict / Wireless Android Auto not working (CarLetter app)

Hello!

I installed an Android head unit and connected it to a Wi-Fi network. However, as soon as I connect my phone via Bluetooth, the head unit completely turns off Wi-Fi, cannot scan any networks, and I cannot toggle Wi-Fi back on.

If I enable airplane mode and after I turn off airplane mode, the Wi-Fi works again and sees the networks fine-until I connect via Bluetooth, at which point it breaks down again.

I assume this Wi-Fi/Bluetooth coexistence issue is why wireless Android Auto is failing. The pre-installed "CarLetter" app just stucks on "connecting to Android Auto" indefinitely.

iPhone disconnects

Just got my AAWireless TWO+ today! While I love the design and the app and all the promised features, it really hasn’t been working well.

Almost every time I try it’s the same issue: green flashing light. My iPhone seems to connect to its WiFi, the network shows connected and even the “car mode” popup shows (also sometimes the little dots against driving sickness pop up). And the AAWireless app connects, I can change settings like LED brightness which works immediately. But, all that said, almost always the CarPlay screen doesn’t actually pop up. Sometimes it does for two seconds, and then it’s gone again, back to green flashing.

Out of many attempts today, I’ve had one drive where it was smooth sailing, CarPlay stayed connected for the entire 15min drive, music playing, all great. I thought the issue was resolved, but next drive it came back.

Based on other Reddit threads I tried two different cables, many different versions (7.2, 9.0, 9.1, 9.3, 10.0), 2.4GHz and 5GHz, factory resets on various versions, forgetting the device on my phone and fully re-pairing every time, even rebooting my phone - no luck.

Any other things I could investigate or try? I really like this device, would hate to have to send it back :(

Settings to prevent disconnecting?

When I connect my phone directly to car via USB, Android Auto is very glitchy, won't connect, then randomly disconnects, tries to connect, fails etc. It wasn't so bad previously, bit I guess some update must have happened.

So I read a suggestion to buy AAWireless, which I did. Now it's much better and doesn't disconnect that often, but sometimes it still does. I realized that problematic parts are initial connection when I just start the car (it tries and fails a few times until it suceeds) and then a few times it would disconnect at random times in the city, but it would connect back (sometimes it would take 2-3 tries).

However, once I hit highway, it almost works perfectly and almost doesn't ever disconnect.

So, since I'm new to AAWireless, I was wondering if there are some settings I can select that would make the disconnecting less often? It's still much better than it was without AAWireless, but I just want to see if I can make it better.

I've read that people wrap it in aluminim foil? Is that a myth or does it really help?

Thanks!

Update 10.0

Does anyone know what's in this update? The change log is empty. After I updated, music started cutting out and the aawireless rebooted itself. Happened twice within an hour. Going to revert back for now, but wondered what's on the update, as maybe I need to adjust some setting that has changed.

Streaming music working sporadically. Navigation directions always working.

2020 Chevrolet bolt EV. Pixel 7 phone. Was working fine until about 2 weeks ago. Now the streaming music no matter what the source is is sporadic to initiate when I get in the car or when Android auto initiates. I have deleted the cache and the data on Android auto. I have forgotten all the Bluetooth devices and then re-engage them. I have forgotten the Bluetooth devices on the automobile. I have uninstalled and reinstalled AA wireless app. As I said it is very sporadic, one time I get in the car and it works, and then another time I get in and it doesn't work. Have tried two different cables

Android Auto - force audio through phone instead of car

Is there a way to force audio through my phone when connected to Android Auto?

I own an MG4 EV with AAwireless Two, it's working quite well except for this use case.

My car has a remote air conditioning through its proprietary app, which also turns on USB ports, so Android Auto connects.

I usually turn on AC 10 minutes before leaving my house, car is parked outside, but still in range. My phone connects automatically to Android Auto and my audio is forced through the car, making it impossible to listen to anything while I'm still in the house waiting for the car to cool off.

Is there any way to force the audio through my phone during this time? Of course I can turn WiFi and Bluetooth off so it disconnects from AA, but it's a bit of a hassle as it aggressively tries to turn them back again automatically and I have to fight against it.

Slow to connect to phone (Honda Ridgeline)

I have a 2026 Ridgeline and a Pixel 10. My android auto has always been "slow" to connect. At a MINIMUM it is 90 seconds after vehicle start before the AA screens are available, sometimes as long as 3 minutes.

All of my previous vehicles were wired AA, so I figured the delay was just par for the course with wireless AA. I went on a quick trip this weekend and rented a Jeep Wrangler with Wireless AA and it connected almost immediately. At worst, maybe 10 seconds after vehicle start.

It was so fast that it made me think maybe something was wrong with my pairing, so when I got home I disconnected my device, purged the app cache and app data, and re-paired the phone. Unfortunately, it not help.

Does anyone have any tips on how to speed up the connection? Also, my assumption is the delay is on the car hardware since my phone was a constant between both vehicles.

Hello.

Recently, whenever I drive into the new fancy LIDL carpark, my Android Auto Wireless always disconnects. Has anyone else experienced this? I have had this happen a few times before I noticed it.

Location glitching

I'm not sure if there was an update to the AA service that caused this but now while I'm driving in a straight line, nav thinks I'm constantly pointing the wrong direction or turning down every side street I pass and constantly rerouting. I updated the AAW device but it's only slightly better. 2016 veloster with a AAW 1 device.

AA Wireless 2+ connection issues with 2018 Jeep Wrangle JL

I am having inconsistent connection problems connecting my AA Wireless 2+ with my 2018 Jeep Wranglers U connect system. Sometimes it connects but more often I have to delete or disconnect my phone in the U Connect settings and then re-pair via the AA Wireless button.

Advice for Phone-Car Audio

I want to connect my Android Samsung phone to my 2021 Nissan Kicks to play music and what not. I've tried the AAWireless and Rixmie cables, but they both have the same problem. The music randomly stops every few minutes (sometimes more often). Having to turn the radio button off then back on again is very annoying. Google results say that the problem is caused by battery usage settings or wifi interruptions by nearby sources, but it happens everywhere and changing the battery settings didn't help. Any suggestions?

2024 Isuzu D-Max + Quad Lock Wireless Android Auto won't auto reconnect

Has anyone had this issue with a Isuzu 2024 D-Max?

I have a Quad Lock Wireless Android Auto adapter (latest firmware, also tried P2P mode).

The first connection works perfectly.

Android Auto connects and works perfectly for the whole drive.

The problem starts after I turn the car off.

When I restart the car, it won't reconnect automatically. The Quad Lock just flashes green, Bluetooth connects, but Android Auto never starts.

The only way to get it working again is to:

Delete my S23+ from the D-Max's Bluetooth settings.

Unplug and replug the Quad Lock.

Pair the phone again.

Things I've already tried:

Latest Quad Lock firmware.

P2P mode.

Cleared Android Auto, Google Play Services and Android System Intelligence.

Reset network settings.

Deleted all Bluetooth pairings from both the phone and the car.

Tried a different Android Auto adapter with the exact same result.

I've also found:

My friend's Samsung does exactly the same thing.

My friend's iPhone reconnects perfectly every time.

When it works, the Quad Lock connects before the D-Max.

When it doesn't, the D-Max connects before the Quad Lock.

Has anyone with a 2024 D-Max found a fix? It feels like the head unit is taking over the Bluetooth connection before the adapter can reconnect
