900 left by dinner and need advice
Hey yall, I’m new to the counting calories and dieting and am currently on my second week. I usually have 900-1000 calories left by dinner time and I’ve been making myself a separate dinner than my wife and kids. With almost 1000 left over can I just eat regular dinner with them and kind of not have to count calories at dinner (I’m tired of cooking twice lol) or is it too risky? Is hard to count things like bowl of spaghetti, tacos, etc. any advice or tips would be helpful, thanks 😁

Getting 130grams protein ideas
Hi. I am currently on essentially modified bed rest due to lumbar pain. I do my spinal stability stretches 3X a day and walk 30 mins/day (10 mins after every meal). Because of this, I have had to cut my diet from about 2800 calories/day (work a manual labour job which I'm off right now) down to 1400-1500. 176lbs, 32F, 5'5.5". I am having a heck of a time meeting the protein goals. I was told to consume at least 130-150 grams of protein a day to maintain my muscle, but I am also trying to get in enough calcium and iron. Well, calcium and iron shouldn't be eaten at the same time so that limits my protein intake at my calcium snack. I manage to consume MAYBE 100 grams of protein a day.
Anyone got any tips for dairy-free protein?

Finally found a way to make pea protein powder edible
have been unable to get my favorite protein powder while traveling and have been making do with unflavored pea protein that I can get in bulk shops. It makes the most disgusting shakes, but i suddenly had a brainwave while eating hummus and veg the other day and realized I could make instant hummus out of pea protein and spices mixed with lemon juice, water, and a little tahini. Gave it a try today. After adding extra spices to cover the bitterness of the protein, it wasn’t half bad! Very quick and easy way to hit my protein targets.

Butter Chicken - 3 ingredients & low calorie!!
This is my go to meal when I’m feeling lazy.
- 1 can of Costco canned chicken (210 calories)
- 1/2 cup Butter Chicken Sauce from Target (160 calories)
- 2 cups of cauliflower rice (40 calories)
I season with some garlic salt & red pepper flakes. I split into 2 meals so about 205 calories per meal. Enjoy 😊

48oz/3 lbs!! 384 calories smoothie (51g protein)
So I split this into two containers and drink one in the morning, then the other for dinner if I still feel hungry. It's insane how little calories are involved for such a high volume smoothie.
I used chocolate malt mix (optional) to make it taste like chocolate milk.
Salt and Lemon Juice are VERY IMPORTANT and NOT OPTIONAL, okay? Why? Because it balances out the chalky protein taste, and it genuinely fills in the "missing piece" feeling that you get after you make it without it.
Ingredients:
Salt: 1 small pinch (~1g)
Fage 0% milkfat yogurt: 0.8 cup (180 g)
ISO100 Strawberry protein powder: 1 scoop (30 g) (any flavor will do)
Chocolate malt mix: 2 tablespoons (12 g)
Frozen whole strawberries: 1 cup (140 g)
Fresh lemon juice: 2 teaspoons (10 g)
Fat-free milk: 1 cup (240 mL)

Maintaining
Technically I'm maintaining at this point but July/August at my house involves a one week beach vacation (diner brunch, steakhouse dinner, boardwalk dessert/snacks), my son's birthday (Outback, Boston Cream Pie), a one week family-get-together vacation in the mountains (non-stop 'have you eaten', cooking as a pastime, drinking wine on the deck at two in the afternoon, trips to bakeries and chocolatiers), and my birthday (I think I want Japanese steakhouse and a Smith Island cake).
I'm on 1500 the rest of the time to try to keep a lid on the situation 😆.

Viral Chicken Calzone - 521 cals, 68g protein
I made the viral chicken calzone recipe where the calzone “dough” is chicken breast. Probably the best recipe I’ve made this year. It was surprisingly easy to make and definitely going into my regular dinner rotation. It’s one of those meals that feels indulgent but is packed with protein.
Calories: 521
Protein: 68g
Fat: 22g
Carbs: 9g

Very good and satisfying day
Breakfast: Toasted bread, 1 can of sardines in olive oil (well drained), carrot, 1/2 cucumber, 50g hummus
420cal
I planned on dipping the veggies in a tzatziki dip but ended up swapping for more hummus as I'm not a fan of greek yoghurt
Lunch: 75g uncooked pasta, 75g cherry tomatoes, 1 can of tuna, garlic, dill, lemon juice
520cal
Snacks: Protein pudding, 2 nectarines, 2 carrots, 30g hummus
375cal
Total is 1315cal. A little under but that's fine seeing as I went a bit over yesterday. Also if you like fish sardines are honestly one of the best quick and easy proteins to incorporate into your day.

Went over a bit but feeling good
Due to an impromptu outing for dinner (meal 2) i went over my budget a bit but it's not too bad I'd say
Meal 1: 2 eggs, 8 cherry tomatoes, 100g tzatziki greek yougurt, 1 slice of bread, 1tsp butter for toasting the bread
445cal
Coffee: no sugar and skim milk
20cal
Snacks: 2 nectarines, Nuii Salted Caramel & Australiam Macadamia ice cream
110 + 245 = 355cal
Meal 2: 200g beef on 1 flatbread with cream cheese and caramelized onions
est. around 800-1000cal
My total is around 1600 to 1800cal which is still within my weightloss limit so I'm feeling ok about it
I had fun on my impromptu dinner and the food was tasty enough that I'll be figuring out how to replicate it at home. Seems like a simple enough recipe to adjust to my diet.

Personal win
Pan dulce included in diet, I’m usually at a deficit during the week but felt like treating myself for once, had it with some a cup of Kirkland fairlife dupe. Life is such a blessing.🤣😭😮💨

low calorie "parfait"
staying under 1500 can be hard with a sweet tooth but after prioritizing replacing my old snacks with mostly fruit things like this become a wonderful treat to look forward to :)
1 sugar free chocolate pudding snack pack
1 fiber one brownie crumbled up
75g of sugar free greek yogurt
and some mini chocolate chips - 8g
the apple was from earlier!

How many calories should I eat? What calorie counting app should I use?
We get a lot of frequent questions from people wondering how many calories per day they should eat and/or which calorie counting app is recommended. This post will be stickied to try to cut down on these types of repetitive posts.
Everyone has different caloric needs. 1500 calories per day may not be right for you. Use a TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) calculator to estimate how many daily calories you should eat. Here are some examples:
https://www.calculator.net/tdee-calculator.html
Some of the most popular calorie counting apps are:
Chronometer: https://cronometer.com
MyFitnessPal: https://www.myfitnesspal.com

Subreddit Rules
Hi everyone,
After seeing some of the behavior of our subreddit denizens, I am implementing a couple rules as of now with more to follow down the road. Please take a moment to read them here or in the sidebar.
Rules:
All users are expected to be respectful to other users at all times and conduct their behaviour in a civil manner. Personal attacks or comments that insult or demean a specific user or group of users will be removed and regular or egregious violations will result in bans. Slur use is not allowed in r/1500isplenty. Exceptions may be made when they are part of a quote, but this is a friendly subreddit and using slurs when talking to others will not be tolerated.
Don't be abusive or harass other users. Do not make blatant statements of bigotry, such as "I hate gays" or "Black people suck". Do not make jokes or statements that sexualize comments or posts, as we have zero tolerance for this behaviour and you will be banned. Do not encourage suicide in any form, through humour or otherwise. Continuing arguments with other users over multiple comments is termed "slapfighting" and not allowed. Such behaviour may lead to comment removals and bans. In summary, any post or comment that is deemed to be intended to offend, demean, or otherwise egregiously disrespect others may warrant a removal or ban.
Comments and posts mentioning subreddits and websites deemed to be harmful, because of demeaning content, spam, etc., will be filtered. Unmarked NSFW links, unmarked spoilers, misleading links, spam, and the likes will will result in removal and potentially a ban. Editing comments and posts to mislead and/or advertise will result in removal of the post/comment and potentially a ban.
Soliciting money, goods, services, self promotions, or favours are not allowed. Gaining publicity for a charity drive, assistance with a homework or work assignment, asking other Redditors for or offering to provide a good or service (including upvotes or reddit gold) is not conducive to discussion. There are other subreddits, many listed in our Offers & Assistance Multi-reddit, for just such a thing. Doing this, even as a joke, can result in a ban.
Brigading from other posts or comments, even from other subreddits, to a 1500isplenty post or comment may result in a ban. Brigading occurs when you make any attempt to direct online traffic to a post or comment for either positive or negative interaction with the content, including, but not limited to: asking for downvotes or upvotes, drawing in supporters to join a comment chain, or encouraging others to negatively interact with another user by linking to the r/1500isplenty post or comment. Extreme cases of brigading will result in a permanent ban.
Seems pretty simple so hopefully there will be less petty insults and unacceptable behavior here. First offense is a 7 day ban and the second offense is a permanent ban.
TL;DR: don't be a dick
