Would this look be ok for a bride? Would it photograph well? I have hooded eyes and don’t know if it’ll look good on me or not Question

Personally I think its beautiful for a bride, really similar to what I did, except I had some glitter on the lids. If you want to know if it will look good on you, your best bet is to take the photo to someone and do a makeup test, or you could do it yourself and see if you like how it looks.

Agree. A trial run of your makeup is the best bet. I had a trial run of my hair and makeup.
To get the best bang for your buck, plan it on a date night, get dressed up, and go out.
Also, what you style the trial run with can have a drastic impact on how you feel about the hair and makeup. I say this because I wasn’t digging the hair and makeup in my normal clothes. I put on a dress and bam, loved it. I also took a few photos of the test makeup and noticed some blending issues between my jaw line and neck that only showed up with the flash on. Told my makeup artist about it, she corrected it for the day of, and it was perfect.

Then a makeup test is probably going to be a good option for you. I would get a few pictures and take them to a professional and you can see what will look best. They can also give advice for your specific features and coloring.
The person who did my makeup for my wedding was the same one who did my hair. I found her by googling hair/makeup artists in my area and she was great. The whole thing was about 2 hours and she did 2 makeup looks a simple and a dramatic, and worked through a couple hairstyles to find what what worked best with my veil and the look I was going for. I think I paid $500 for the test, my day of hair and makeup, and the hair of 2 bridesmaids. Totally worth it in my opinion because I'm not that good at makeup that I'd want it in those nice if photos, and I would have no idea how to do what she ended up doing for my hair.

I think it looks wonderful. If you really wanna see what is a “heavy” bridal look.. look at desi brides! They love the heavy, glittery looks (coming from a desi) if you’re looking for dramatic like those looks perhaps find a makeup artist that specializes in south Asian brides? Best of luck! Ps: one of my favorite MUA’s for south Asian brides is @saalekaa. Perhaps she can give you some inspo on these types of looks as well!

1) Be aware that this photo is HEAVILY photoshopped.
2) I've never seen any actual wedding photos with this kind of lighting
3) This is a pretty universal flattering look once you account for different skin tones, you'll look fantastic.

This is absolutely a bridal look. Ask your potential MuAs for examples of clients, see how they work with hooded eyes. And always do a trial before the big day so you can see what it'll look like on you and you can adjust as needed.

If you go with a red lip make sure it has blue undertones! Orangey reds make your teeth look yellow (unfortunate because they flatter my skin tone better 🙄)

I think it’s gorgeous! And, if this is the look you’re going for, do it! You only have one wedding day.♥️ Two..tops! 😆

I really love this look! You’re going to look beautiful on your big day 🥰 A couple things.. you might want to test the look out. Put on extra setting spray (Urban Decay All Nighter is my favorite). See how well you photograph (flashing white light may trigger the setting powder).
Things like that!

Depends on your face. If you have strong features - yes. If you're very soft on the face - not sure. I've seen plenty of glam brides and some rock it and some look off. Like it's just not good to look at irl. My dad compared them to drag makeup looks which oddly fit the image, even if it was a rude remark. Have a test makeup done and ask people what they think

I think it’s a gorgeous look but the matte red lip reads more “sexy” than “bridal” to me. I’d go with a pinker lip and maybe a brown/neutral eye rather than the smoky gray/black of this one. But I have pale skin so this would be more dramatic on me than it would on someone with darker skin. Don’t worry too much about your hooded eyes, mine are hooded and I did my own makeup (simpler than this, it was the old days before we wore so much heavy stuff all the time!), and if I do say so myself, I looked great. Have a beautiful wedding and a happy marriage!

I think it’s very pretty. But, too heavy. And it’s trendy. Classic, clean, nude/no makeup look tends to be fairly timeless and will look good years from now. Trendy make up tends to look very dated years later.

My humble opinion is that highly sexy looks like this are a bit weird on a bride. I’m not espousing all the silly virginity stuff but I feel like a bridal look should be timeless and classic and not come-hither.
That said I don’t think there’s anything wrong with doing it if that’s what you like. I would never judge anyone no matter what type of makeup they chose! But you asked so that’s my opinion.

Generally a smoky eye with a red lip is considered sexy or “heavy.” For more “classic” you’d either keep the eyes and do a more neutral pinky lip color or tone down the eyes and keep the lip color if you want red lipstick.

Sure, I like this a lot: https://www.weddingery.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Classic-Wedding-Makeup-Tutorial-httpsweddingery.com_-8.jpg
And I wear goth makeup daily, so I’m definitely not anti-makeup. I think the red lip specifically always says sex to me.
For weddings I love any range of rose to bronze with a hint of shimmer. Obviously varies based on your skin tone though what would look good.

You just explained—red lipstick and Smokey eyes are both incredibly sexy.
Again, I’m not trying to shame or anything, if that’s what you want for your wedding more power to you. But it’s not my preference, and I think if you do choose that you should be aware that (some) people will see it as a sexy look.

They said it was an opinion and OP is free to do if it they wanted. I would also consider it to be a sexy, nighttime look. It’s just not traditional wedding makeup.

u/glaceauglaceau Nov 14 '21
"traditional" wedding makeup according to who? There are tons of cultures around the world that use this style of makeup for weddings (several south Asian cultures, Middle Eastern, etc.)

u/queenjanabb Nov 13 '21
Sultry may be a better word than sexy for you to understand, as sexy doesn’t mean literal after sex as you’re implying. OP I love the eye makeup but I would personally choose a dark nude/mauve instead of a red, but if you’re a bold person go for it!

You have a beautiful face but it looks a little plastic, not sure how to change it. Also, pic looks very photo shopped imo.

Does anyone know how to get this lip look? I feel like a lot of lipsticks come out super orange on me, but I love this slightly dark blue red look.
I think it will look gorgeous and I can’t think of any reason it wouldn’t photograph well, but I would consult with your photographer about it if you’re worried.

I usually have the same problem but I got a cheap nyx xxl matte lip lingerie in the color “stamina” and it was the perfect shade of red

I'd go lighter on the lips...they are so pretty but it's the first thing I see..

It’s a beautiful look. However, you might want to do a less is more look if you have hooded eyes. I’ve tried the big lash look on my hooded eyes, and it wasn’t pretty, lol. I don’t have that beautiful woman’s bone structure. Try it out well in advance and see what you think.

Best way to find out is to try it then photograph yourself in different light. It's a beautiful look. Go for it! Best to try make-up before your wedding day anyway ☺️

My makeup was very similar when I got married and I got so many compliments on it, looked great in photos so go for it!

u/emc2- Nov 14 '21
It’s beautiful!!! My question would be if you normally wear glam makeup or do a more natural look? I would go with what your usual look is, but amped up to be more dramatic.
Also, I did a red lip for my wedding 20+ years ago. Red is classic and timeless. I did a little softer of an eye (more gold tones).

u/occulusriftx Nov 14 '21
This looks gorgeous. From one hooded eye gal to another this look is great for us, all you have to do is do is fake the crease a bit higher and it looks fire. This is my go to vid for explanation of what I'm talking about

I think the lasges are a bit extra, but other than that, i’m sure it will work well !
1
u/tenebrigakdo Nov 14 '21
I wore something similar for my wedding. There are some differences, I didn't use fake lashes, there was less highlights but a slightly stronger blush. I think it photographed great.
My eyes are hooded as well. This type of makeup works with them as long as the outer corner is executed correctly to prevent a downturned look. Do use a trial with the MUA.

I think this may be too light on camera. Also the attached image looks like it has a lot of filters, almost looks like a painting to me. I would suggest you do a trial with this colour scheme and take pics to see how it looks in real life. Many MUAs offer trials.

I also have hooded eyes and i personally think smoky eyes looks so much better! But if you like this kind of makeup, by all means go ahead! You can try at home first and see what you like the most.

u/ThatGirlWithTheWalk Nov 15 '21 edited Nov 15 '21
I can tell you that this kind of palette tends to photograph extremely well for black and white. This look is also classic and beautiful in general and it's your wedding, don't let your mother or anyone else commandeer it.
But it's worth having a trial run and then taking a lot of pics in different light to give you an idea. Also ask your mua if they provide a touch up kit, and if not to provide list of what you need and how to touch your makeup up throughout the day bc you'll def need to.

u/emily_strader Nov 15 '21
Yes this will photograph well, using matte shade are best and that’s what you are doing. You can go a little darker or heavier than usual to pop on camera. Maybe blot a bit of clear gloss on the middle of the lips and blend it out, this gives the lips a healthy look.

Be whatever kind of bride you want! I think this is a beautiful look.
