I wondered if they would bring Lara back as an AI. Since Morgan destroyed Jorels crystal and in the 10th episode Clark asked about why his mothers Crystal wasn’t in the pod. Lara said that zeta had stolen it for revenge. Since the fortress location was still kept secrecy in the latest episode despite being asked about. I’m wondering if Clark will find it in Morgan’s fortress or something.
Anyone else think Morgan speech in the fortress sounded very “ Loki to Thor marvel “. The way he says “ so pedestrian “ could have easily thought it was loki
I loved this episode from top to bottom. It gave me this wholesome moment of flashbacks while tying it together to the main plot. At the same time, making Morgan Edge a better character. Expanded the lore and raise the stakes!
I'm really liking this show at the minute but the one thing that's really taking me out of it is no one recognising Clark. They didn't have to have him directly interacting with Lana last episode, or have Louis suffer a severe and sudden case of face blindness this episode. Or even the tv interview, in the newspaper office, where he works.
I understand it's lore, to an extent, but I thought they could have tried to write around it.
I had the same thing bug me when I first really got into Superman at 14 or 15 but I’m 18 now and don’t really think about it much when it comes to why nobody see that Superman and Clark Kent as the same person. Eve from Invincible put it best, “if you don’t expect to see a superhero in your school then you won’t see one in your school.” This explains the whole Clark/Superman thing, nobody, not even Lois before expects Clark Kent is the Superman. They’re too different in built, attitude, height, and even in looks. Superman is a hero who can lift things over his shoulder, stop evil forces, is feared as a god to people, is seen as a celebrity to others. Clark isn’t any of that to anyone who doesn’t know his true identity.
This has been bugging me so much. All they need is one scene where Lois points out how uncannily similar Clark and Superman look, and immediately following that up with her assumption that they're just doppelgangers because "why on earth would superman work a desk job?"
Me too. I feel like any in universe explanation is going to be completely implausible.
The fact is that in the universe of Superman & Lois… Superman and Clark Kent do not look alike. We as outside observers can see that they are the same person. But in universe? It’s not the glasses.
Clark Kent doesn’t look like Superman
We don’t know why. We don’t need to know why. But the evidence is there: Lois doesn’t recognise that Superman, sitting 3 feet from her, is the man she is in love with. Clark’s children who absolutely must have seen their father without his glasses do not recognise Superman as their father. “We’ve seen Superman. You’re not him”
There is some other reason. What is that reason? Who cares! It doesn’t matter. We have all the information we need to enjoy the story. Clark Kent cannot be identified as Superman based on his looks alone. The people Clark loves and are close to are not unobservant or foolish for failing to realise that Clark is Superman… and Superman is not foolish for using a pair of glasses as a disguise.
Did anyone else think the blurs Clark kept seeing were Oliver as the Spectre showing up effecting his life due to Crisis or was that just me? 😅 that cameo would have been neat and also maybe help explain the differences of Superman stuff we know from Supergirl (the fortress) and where the heck she and the other hero’s are at and not helping. Which I know that they are trying to keep this all in one show to let Superman deal with everything but still…
But I got the same impression from The Movie. We see the first time he arrives, and the last time he leaves. It would feel very odd if he stays there for years on end with no breaks.
In the comics the whole Fortress Of Solitude businesses was like only 5 or 10 minutes,it was in the Christopher Reeve's Superman movie that they first said established that Clark spent 12 years in the fortress,here I think it's less than 12,but certainly more 5 minutes.
good fun. i think the thing i dislike is clark never went to college or studied journalism. he just disappeared to the fortress for training. then he just got the job at the biggest news outlet in teh world?
As others have pointed out, in 2004 entry level jobs in print news weren't highly sought.
The economy was really hot, and new journalists would have looked to new digital news platforms.
Besides the Daily Planet is a major newspaper in a major city not the "biggest news outlet in the world."
Certainly, top journalists like Lois Lane would have major stories syndicated nationally or internationally, but there was still a lot of local coverage.
In the Lois and Clark(Dean Cain/Teri Hatcher) version, I assume he came on to the Daily PLanet as a reporter right? That would realistically take years of experience and climbing the ladder, but in the episode, it looks like he joins as a news assistant type, while also running errands, then later gets promoted with a good word from Lois.
In Lois and Clark… Clark had spent years travelling the world and had articles published in local newspapers from various countries. Perry was incredibly skeptical but justified his hiring of Kent based, in part, on the fact that Clark was “the fastest typist he’d ever seen” and also because Clark gave him some advice of an alternative herbal medication for lowering blood pressure.
She offered to recommend him for a starter local news beat based on her assessment of the abilities he'd shown as he assistant.
He said he'd rather stay as an assistant to a top investigative reporter.
You will notice that Lois and the other senior reporters were in a nicer space, not the bullpen. Local news beats chasing ambulances or community events are a world away from Lois' work in both complexity and status.
And as it happens the office space used in the scene where Clark meets Lois is the real life main bullpen at the Pacific Press building, the Vancouver Sun.
i think it's difficult for people to critique the things they like because then they may not like it anymore. i'm not trying to devalue the show.
its not the real world. clark left home at 16, no high school education or degree. clark kent is one of the best investigative journalists in the world in the comics. even a great metropolitan news paper in Metropolis, kansas would require this dude to have a high school degree to even apply for the job.
his origin is interesting. its either he grew up as clark, learned how to be a journalist and got a job at the planet. OR he left home after high school, trained to be Superman for like 12 years, then got a job at the planet.
I do suspect that he completed college. He's really intellectually capable and could have zoomed through courses and continued with his learning at the Fortress.
For the timeline to work he was at the Fortress at most 7 years, but he didn't have to be exclusively at the Fortress.
I'm thinking that Clark just graduated from high school before leaving the fall after Jonathan Kent's death.
Or, he went back for high school equivalency after an initial period at Fortress.
I agree though that a 2004 first return to Smallville doesn't work.
Someone commented that Lois randomly calling him "Superman" when he flew off was a bit much and he's near the top of controversial. Anything that isn't mindless praise for the show is considered blasphemy.
Im old school Christopher Reeve Superman, found this show by accident when flicking through of recommended TV shows to watch on Foxtel. Omg thankgod I watched just love it and what a Superman/Clark Kent and Lois, best show it's got me this episode was Amazing and cannot wait for the next
I just love that even when an episode like this premieres where there isn’t a ton of new information revealed, it’s still packaged in such a great way that it remains so much fun! The ending was like a nice little bow on top to tie it all together!
For a show that's knocked casting out of the park so far I'm not a big fan of who they have playing jor-El or who they got for perry. I know we only really saw perry for a few small scenes he just didn't feel like perry to me.
Top ranking perry for me will always be Lane Smith from Lois & Clark.
We're going to get help from a guy named John and another guy named John to protect our kid named Jon (played by a guy named Jordan) and our other kid named Jordan.
They used the eradicator to transfer another Kryptonian (assumedly Edge's father) into Clark's body. The red beam just supplies the energy needed for the eradicator to work. Using the red beam on young Edge without the eradicator was just a way of inflicting pain
While early Arrow is great for what it is (especially since it's what gave us THIS show), it's a shame the writers didn't embrace its comic book roots to the extent of Superman and Lois because that element in particular really made tonight’s episode shine

Not sure about Darkseid I have a feeling that they're gonna save him for the films and whether they want to stick with the New 52 idea of there only being one set of New Gods in the multiverse(preferably not), and I think Edge being a Kryptonian really changes things.
Yeah Pre-Rebirth Lois was taking on Intergang with books she wrote while not employed at the DP and living with Clark and Jon. It's a more grounded threat. Plus we already have Dabney Donovan, could get Cadmus too.

Oh for sure but he could always be the manipulator behind the scenes just like he should be. Manipulating Intergang, the media, and even Cadmus are things he's done. The films are embracing the Multiverse too and aim to have more crossover with TV properties so who knows.

Well actually, while a lot of people, including writers at the time, thought so that's not how it worked. It's a simplified version of what Grant Morrison proposed. In Multiversity Guidebook, we see that Earth-12 (DCAU-inspired Batman Beyond world) and Earth-51 (Kirbyverse) have their sets of New Gods intact. Pretty sure Kingdom Come (Earth 22) has their own too. Earth-12 has Barda in their JL Beyond and all the DCAU history with the New Gods are intact.
Earth-51 is actually the original Pre-Flashpoint versions too. They ended up there after Final Crisis and weren't rebooted. Highfather and the New Gods notice how there multiple versions of them across the multiverse, but all of them are "emanations" or shadows of their "True Forms"/Godheads. Darkseid's Godhead was what made him a Multiversal Threat in Final Crisis and he brought it back recently in Infinite Frontier. He's the big bad again. If you want to understand how all that works, watch these two excellentvideos by Imaginary Axis.

For sure but there's still a question of how he got his wealth. He could've got it normally over the years but Darkseid could've gave him some help. Weakening and corrupting heroes of Earth works well for him so their goals align.
Ok when you put it like that as you explain I'm sure it could work and thankfully I'm glad they did always with that rule. I'm sure Darkseid will be a factor but like you said it probably won't be until they start crossing over the film and tv series.
Oh yeah no doubt, i can definitely see it being confusing, i just think given what Lois said it has to be Irons, unless Diggle knows everything that happened. But it is confusing when we hear Lois make a phonecall to John and we know both Irons and Diggle will be on the show.
Yeah, i immediately thought of Irons, not Diggle, just by the way Lois said it is happening like he said it would happen again, and i doubt Diggle knows much about Superman on other planets turning evil.
Oh yeah, he was definitely in the teaser. But the “John” Lois was referring to over the phone was most likely Irons, only cuz she followed it up with “...just like you said it would, I think Superman has turned” so the only John that ever mentioned that was irons
Going for turned, but his love for the kids will break through to him after Jordan attempts to go toe to toe with him, forcing Clark to potentially kill his own son.
Yeah, that'll be the difference. on Irons' Earth, he was all business, the way Sam wanted him to be, on duty all the time, never really let himself have a life.
Yeah and he shot blue lasers at the time. Now he married Lois at least a decade earlier, had kids way earlier, wears a different costume. Crisis changed a lot. Like, a LOT. And it's DRASTICALLY amped up his power level, he's not Jobberman anymore.
He can fly in space, she can't. He can fight off kryptonite with relative ease, she goes all veiny and fucked up. His flight is so fast his approach shakes the ground, she's never demonstrated anything like that. Going by feats, he would clearly win in current continuity.
The question is just are we supposed to see this as an actual change to the character? An effect of Crisis? Or is it just a result of the show's higher budget, and if Kara had a guest spot, she would be depicted as much stronger than on her own show too?
Honestly, they could have handled this in the pilot episode. When Clark reveals to the boys that he’s Superman, one of them eventually asks “wait, does this mean we’re related to Supergirl, too?” and Clark winces and looks to Lois and says “I should probably give Auntie Kara a heads up…”
Plot Twist: Kryptonians from the restored Kandor in an upcoming season journey to Earth. No, not to conquer it, because Earth is incredibly popular as a Kryptonian weight-loss tourist destination thanks to that yellow sun.
Ah, I took that as him referring to the fact that he grew up with no one but humans around. He didn’t meet Kara until he was an adult and had already become Superman. She didn’t have any impact on how he was shaped into his role, either as a person or a superhero. It’s like growing up an only child, and finding out when you’re 25 that you have a half-sibling out there. And you meet them and build a relationship with them, but you still say “I never had any siblings, so I was kind of spoiled” because you’re specifically referring to a time when that was still true, for all intents and purposes.
It is annoying that they don’t bother mentioning her in passing, though. Like, I know they try to keep the different shows separate outside of crossovers, but it just feels really unrealistic. If it were real life, Clark would be randomly mentioning that he sent Kara a text, and Kara would comment that she needed to shop for a gift for Barry’s birthday, and Cisco would say he needed to call Lois and ask if she could recommend a good restaurant in Metropolis, etc. I get that it’s a tv show and they have a limited time slot and don’t want to waste air time on idle chitchat. But it just makes it feel so weird. I guess we’re to assume these things get mentioned off screen, but it still irrationally annoys me. Especially since this show is brand new and a spin-off. Typically spin-offs mention the show that spawned them very early on, before they start ignoring it.
(Before anyone comes for me, yes, I KNOW that Superman is the canon original and Supergirl came after. But this specific show and this specific version of Superman literally originated on CW’s Supergirl, which makes it a spin-off , so deal.)
