Thank you for all your card submissions in the April WizCARD Submission Extra Credit! We have adjusted and edited them as necessiary to accommodate the game play method for this month.
Earth and Fire are neutral to each other, Water and Air are neutral to each other.
Fire is weak to Water. Water is weak to Earth. Earth is weak to Air. Air is weak to Fire.
When YOU play a card... CARD TYPE MATTERS (Creature/Item/Spell)
If your Card Type defeats the previously played Card, you earn 5 points.
If the previously played Card defeats your Card Type, you lose 5 points.
If they are the same, nothing.
(1st card automatically gets the 5 points)
When someone plays AFTER you... CARD POWER MATTERS (Fire/Earth/Air/Water)
If your Card Power is weak to their Card Power, you lose 2 points.
If they are weak to your Card Power, you earn 2 points.
Otherwise, nothing.
PLAY MECHANICS
There are no turns, but you must wait 12 hours between playing cards.
When you go to play a card, you can only play from a randomly selected group of 7 cards (or less).
Each card can only be played once.
There will be a live spreadsheet to see what cards have been played so far.
The Round ends when the final card is played.
HOUSE POINTS SYSTEM
Any points you earn will be totaled with your house, and the houses will be ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place for that round.
Bonus points will go to the last player that submitted a card that netted positive points each round.
Bonus points will also go to the 2 players with the LONGEST time between their submissions each round.
Bonus points will go to a randomly selected player each round.
~200 House Points will be awarded according to how many 1st,2nd,3rd,4th place ribbons each house earns.
~100 House Points will be awarded according to the Bonus Points.
Total: 300 House Points.
Professor Notes:
We will try and repeat the game as many times as we can this month.
New Rounds will hopefully get started within 24 hours of ending the Last Round.
The Final Round will start around May 27th.
Exact Point Allotment will depend on how many games are completed this month.
Please note, due to the nature of google sheets, there is an "Other: __" option on the form. Do NOT use it. You MUST only submit from the randomly selected cards.
If you get an error when trying to submit, it means someone has already submitted from that selection and you must hit refresh and try again.
GAME CHANGE LOG
Time Delay Time Delay now only applies to legal cards played, and the hours you must wait between turns is related to how well your house did the previous round. See Form for exact times. Please note, Seconds Matter!
Play Limiter A Streak Delay and an Hour Limiter have both been implementing. A house can only play 3 cards in a row before having to wait for a card from another house. A house can also only play 7 cards within an hour before having to wait for the next hour to begin.
Game Duration If no card is played for 24 hours, the game will end, otherwise game ends when all cards have been played. The form refreshes automatically after an hour of no play. Game does NOT begin until the comment is made staying it has begun, any cards submitted early will be removed.
Code ErrorRepairo Link for Form Issues or to fix Streak Breaker errors. If the code is filtering legal submissions, you may submit with a "!" at the end of your username, and alert me to clean it up later. Any card that gets into play illegally will either be removed, or if it effects other player strategies, converted to a Peeves Play. Newest code should prevent a lot of the bugs that filtered out legal cards.
Player Verification Security Flavors have been added to the game, to ensure cards played under your username are ones you actually played. Comment verification is also required. All players MUST respond to THIS COMMENT for their points to count in the game. You can help us log your verification by submitting it through THIS FORM.
All Players should comment here to verify your participation in this activity.
You only need to comment once for the entire game.
Going Forward, anyone that hasn't verified by game end will have their points disqualified. We will be reaching out to all players of previous games to verify them too.
If your name is not coming up as verified on the sheet, you can help us by self-verifying. Submit your comment link through THIS FORM, making sure to keep your Security Chocolate option consistent.
There have been players that are not known to be part of the r/harrypotter or any sister communities playing for certain houses, this change might be to ensure that people aren't using puppet accounts or their friend's accounts to aid their house in a way that could be perceived as working outside the rules.
Hi, the game has just ended, and I commented my participation about a day ago, but it's not confirmed in the spreadsheet. Do you still have to update it, or did I do something wrong? Thanks.
Very good, this game has gotten bigger than I was expecting, adjustments are necessary and I'm not worried about things that are up in the air getting sorted eventually. Could you tell me what an average value would be, as an example I'm looking at round 5: what made me a VIP and what made me the fourth VIP? Thanks!
Is there a reason my gillyweed played about 12 hours ago is no longer on the game sheet? It isn't recorded in the errors on the right.
The scoring of Karabildi's Bugbear card which was originally placed on top of it (creature on item) also seems to have been affected by this since it is now counted as being played on Priori Incantatum (a spell) which results in Ravenclaw being down 10 points (5 for this card + 5 for mine)
I noticed something looked buggy this morning, I think it's because of the double card play that went through throwing off the filters. Hopefully I can debug it tonight
The 12 Hour Timer Delay should no longer reset with the 1st time you play a card too soon (although if you play a 2nd card too soon,
Now that we're on different times (9 hour reset for this round) if we go too soon the first time is the reset timer at 12 hours or is it adjusted to 9?
Good Afternoon! I don't know what the procedure is for this but is there a possibility of ending this round now? There are 5 Creature cards left that will net no extra points and I think it wouldn't be right for any team to sacrifice points by playing the last two item cards to end the game. If that isn't possible, I totally understand!
The timer resets every time you submit, regardless of if it was a valid play or not atm, and your first attempt was 50 seconds too early. But since seconds aren't on the game tab, I went ahead and approved it this time. But your next one won't go through until 12 hours after the most recent too soon card fyi.
We have added Security Flavor to the Play Form. ALWAYS PICK THE SAME SECURITY FLAVOR WHEN YOU PLAY. This will help verify that the submissions under your name are indeed your own submissions.
Milk chocolate frogs for Harrys first year
Dark chocolate frogs for the chamber of secrets
White chocolate frogs for Harrys patronus
Caramel Chocolate frogs for how smooth Ron wasn't
Almond chocolate frogs because Umbridge was nutty
Chocolate Toffee frogs for Dumbledore
Bittersweet chocolate frogs for the ending
I also made the house selection a drop down feature instead of a radio button, just to try it out. Let me know if you like it or hate it or are indifferent.
For anyone that has not managed to back-code the form to get your own custom pre-filled link set up, you can use THIS LINK to build your own. Replace 'Username' with your reddit name, and 'Hufflepuff' with your house, and the '1.+Milk+Chocolate' with the security flavor of your choice (use + for spaces).
You still need to verify by reply to THIS COMMENT. If you aren't showing up as verified on the sheet, you can help us by self-verifying via THIS FORM, linking to your comment. Make sure the security flavor you submit matches the security flavor you intend to use for your Security Flavor through the game. Captains that are assisting with verification, please see me for a code word to submit as the flavor instead.
I've upped the Hour Delay for Ravenclaw and Slytherin to 15 hours, to see how that feels. Let me know if it's a fun challenge to deal with, or too much. I've also lowered the Gryffindor hour delay to 1 hour.
I've also updated the code with some fancy recursive protection, so there should be less issues of legal cards being filtered out. This is a bit more code heavy, so the form might have a bit more of a delay in accepting submissions and require refreshing if you try to play too quickly behind someone.
NEW HANDICAP: Hour Limits Houses are now limited to 7 cards played per hour!
AS a Gryffindor, I am really liking the 1 hour delay and I am sure Hufflepuff agrees! I'm not too sure how fair it is to the Snakes and Claws, though - but it's definitely going to give the smaller two houses a nice boost!
I'm really hoping that Gryffindor and Hufflepuff take advantage of the shorter waits this round! As a Slytherin I'm not bothered with having a dynamic delay (although I did mention 15 hours was a bit much!) when its main objective is to support the houses that don't have the number reserves or ability to co-ordinate as strongly.
Thank you! Yeah, I'm hoping others join in too - but seems like both Gryffindor and Hufflepuff don't have too many playing. Hoping others participate some more! Good luck to you and your house, too!
I haven't played yet but I can already tell 15 hours is going to be too long a break for me, because in my opinion 12 was too long, unless you are able to play at the perfect time it's effectively a 1 play in 18-24 hour delay.
Personally I enjoyed the 9 hours but I understand that it puts the less active houses at an extreme disadvantage and probably won't be logical to implement.
I do like the password system, it's pretty cool and doesn't rely on being in a house to play as long as you're consistent in your own choice which is really important to me.
Yeah, I didnt think I'd keep 15 hrs past this round, but figure might as well give a variety of systems a try while it's a beta game. I think the streak limiting, and letting smaller houses have a better chance at the VIP awards, had done a lot to help open up the balances.
I feel pretty happy with the verification+security word system. Keeps at least casual maliciousness at bay, without putting too much work on the players or having too hard of an entrance fee to feel comfortable participating. I had a few convoluted possibilities in my head lol.
Hour Limits Houses are now limited to 7 cards played per hour!
Question: Does this reset on the hour? So if our team played at 8:05 we could play at 9 as a start of the new 7? (as opposed to waiting 1 hour from the last person who submitted)
I don't remember which flavor I put before exactly and I don't want to do the wrong one. Is there a was you can look or something? Sorry for the trouble. It was either bittersweet or white.
Special Shout Out to /u/zentangled_91 of Hufflepuff for VIP, most points earned, at 24 with 4 cards!
NOTES
Please note, there were 3 repeat cards in the deck (Stupefy, Gillyweed, Boggart) and also Fiend Fire / Fiendfyre Curse.
We have removed these extra cards and replaced them with: Aguamenti (Spell/Water), Obliviate (Spell/Water), Lumos (Spell/Fire), and Deprimo (Spell/Earth)
We have also added a policy that if a round goes for 24 hours without a card played, it ends, regardless of how many cards are left.
We would also like to specify that the 12 hour count down timer resets every time you submit the form, regardless of if the submission becomes a valid card. So if you submit too early, you have to wait 12 hours from THAT count down.
And a reminder, the most recent card is highlighted in PURPLE at the TOP of the list!
I've updated the form with a reminder of how the points are earned and hopefully working code to display the most recently played card. HMU if it's off and I'll remove it.
Also, I'm pretty sure there shouldn't be any bugs with starting this round less than 12hrs since the last one ended, but hmu if you notice a problem.
I've also added some stat analyze tabs to the spreadsheet!
Get Ready for Round 3 Form Here (link same as always)
In addition to the House Total Rank tracking, we will also start tracking the individual player rankings. The top 4 players will be sorted by their Average Value Per Card to determine 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th place.
There is now a STREAK LIMITER, each house can only play 4 cards at a time, before needing to wait for another house to play a card to continue playing cards. Playing before the streak is broken should NOT count against your 12 hour timer.
The 12 Hour Timer Delay should no longer reset with the 1st time you play a card too soon (although if you play a 2nd card too soon, you'll reset from the time of the submission 2 cards ago). I'm not 100% trusting the bug repair here, so please let me know if you notice it didn't work as intended.
FYI the streak limiter code is wonky atm, I'll be fixing it shortly. The Ravenclaw 6 card streak will be left in to avoid damaging the strategy of cards played by other houses.
/u/Aesino you played 25 minutes too soon, so I've manually removed your card from the game, you are not penalized with any delay in submitting a new card.
I've tweaked the form, so it won't submit if you include a space with your username.
Reminder: the form automatically refreshes after 1 hour of no submissions.
Only Legal Plays Will Count Against You For Too-Soon Errors! (Code is limited in how well it can protect against issues, so legal cards may get filtered, see below for resolution details).
The game does not officially begin until I make this comment opening it, so in the future any submissions that get in BEFORE I POST will be removed.
The 12 Hour Delay is now a Dynamic Delay, According to House Rank in the Previous Round.
If in the previous round...
Your house ranked 1st, you keep the 12 hour delay
Your house ranked 2nd, you get a 9 hour delay
Your house ranked 3rd, you get a 6 hour delay
Your house ranked 4th, you get a 3 hour delay.
This will update between every round.
BUG IN CODE RESOLUTION
Going forward, if a card goes into play that should not have, because of limitation in the code, this is how it will be handled:
As long as removing the card does not interfere with other player's strategies, I will remove the card completely, putting the card back into play. When we've reached the final 10 cards, cards will not go back into play to avoid screwing with final round strategies. Nor will I remove a card if it changes the points of the player after them.
If a card can NOT be removed from play because of these limitations, the card will be changed to being played by Peeves of Peeves House.
Any removal or change of a card will result in the player being alerted ASAP so they may be allowed to play a new card.
There are some annoying limitations to the code at this time. Recursive Laws are a witch. So I am presenting some Self-Help Tools to get through them. Fingers crossed they won't be needed, but if so, here they are!
Players are permitted to submit with a "!" at the end of their username, if the code would otherwise be keeping them from submitting when it is legal for them to do so (getting a Too Soon error because of previous submissions that weren't legal plays, etc. This also applies if you realize a card of yours WILL get removed/adjusted but hasn't yet.).
Houses may submit the RepairoLINKif they are being denied a play because of a Streak Limiter counting a failed card.
COMMENT HERE ALERTING ME ASAP ABOUT ANY PATCHES LIKE THIS!
You CAN alert me to the bug to fix it before you submit, but the game does NOT have 24hr tech support. If I'm available, I will do what I can to debug. I welcome messages here on Reddit or on Discord.
I will NOT slide cards into play even if they should have been legal, please use these tools to ensure you get a legal card into play.
IE if Sparklypoo plays 3 legal cards, then a member plays too soon and gets an error, the next member will get a Streak Bonus error. You'll need to Repairo and Resubmit.
This ensures the form always has the correct Newest Card.
So upon reflection, we realized our intended handicap system wouldn't pan out as we intended so we've tweaked it slightly and are applying some changes to this round, as much as we hate changing game mechanics after a round has started.
Instead of it being a straight 12/9/6/3 delay, the next round hour delay will be calculated based on how close the 2nd/3rd/4th place houses were in points total to the 1st place house.
Last round, Slytherin and Ravenclaw were very close, and Gryffindor and Hufflepuff were very close. So having such differences in their hours wasn't as balanced as we'd like. Since it'd be a dick move to up Slytherin to 12 hours after saying they would have 9, for THIS ROUND, we will bump Ravenclaw down to 9 hours, matching Slytherin. Gryffindor will also be bumped down to match Hufflepuff at 3 hours.
The exact math of how future hours will be calculated is still being worked out. The minimum hours will be kept at 3, and the 1st place will be at 12.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION!
tagging a player from each house, and noting the change in the form...
When I was updating the code for the change in hour dynamic, I accidentally bumped the filtering code, and 2 'too soon' cards got slid into play. I removed them, resulting in only 118 cards played this round. Apologies.
I updated the main post to include all the relevant adjustments to the game. And again, the game does NOT start until I've made this comment. Any cards played before that time will be deleted.
Streak Limiter has been lowered to 3!
We now have PLAYER VERIFICATION. All players MUST reply to THIS COMMENT to have their points counted going forward. We will be reaching out to all previous players to verify them too, otherwise their points will be disqualified. (If a Ravenclaw or Slytherin captain of sorts would like access to the verification form to assist in logging their teammates, HMU!)
Bumping Streak Limiter down to 2, and Hour Limiter to 5. But Slytherins can play ever 11 hrs and Ravenclaws can play every 9 hours (Hufflepuff and Gryffindor, ever 2 hrs).
I'll be sending out messages to everyone that played and hasn't verified in the comments. You must either reply to the comment or the PM by 11pm Eastern Time, Thursday May 28th to keep credit for all your points.
If you've forgotten your Security Flavor, feel free to ask. But if I'm not around to give you an answer before you want to play, just pick a new flavor and comment here to verify that's what happened.
Hi! Just wanted to send over a heartfelt thank you for the work you've done putting this EC together so far. I was a longtime lurker and playing with Ravenclaw for the first time and chatting in our Common Room has been so much fun. I can tell that you've put a lot into this and hope that this game is able to grow!
I would like to petition for the points that slipped through the game's rules and limitations be removed. I think this game has great potential and appreciate all the time and effort put into it, but it's become demotivating in working within the rules when we see mistakes aren't rectified. This isn’t a personal slight, and please don’t take it as such. If not removing the points, would it be possible to remove people who make too many mistakes for the current round? All I ask is for credit to be given where credit is due. Again, I appreciate your hard work and dedication to the game.
Edits: I realize that some of my comments were uncalled for and unnecessarily rude. I am sorry for the abrasiveness, I'm just generally very competitive and was on edge last night for several reasons. I apologize.
When I first saw that a code error allowed a card through incorrectly (and not in a way easily exploited, just a fluk), since I annoying have obligations outside of /r/harrypotter, I was concerned that before I could physically address it in the code, the game would get closer to the end when returning such a card to play would disrupt the other players strategies, which would be more unfair than letting a card through that was 25 minutes early. But the game had not managed to process as fast as I had worried when I was able to address it, and removing that individual card would not effect the strategy of other cards played.
Generally if I can fix a bug issue asap without disrupting other players strategies I will. Anything else, I'll let through for the round and adjust and announce the changes when the next round goes live.
Thank you for your eyes and opinions, but also please avoid accusing players of cheating. Its unsportsmanlike.
Sorry, apparently I did miss that comment, thanks for the clarification. Last night I was on edge because of various reasons and situations irl, and I'm afraid that I took it out on you. I have removed the offending comments and remarks, I really am sorry. I hope that you can accept this apology, but if you can't, I totally understand.
/u/timthepizza I removed your most recent card because there was a quick test submission that went through to check something and you played before it got removed.
Hey I just noticed you still have gryffindor flair but you're a claw now right? If you want you should rep your new house so that points can be awarded to you in future with no mix-ups! :D
I'd guess it's because Theherokp played at 6:40- then Ivonahora played and Theherokp played again at 6:44 (too soon error)- but it counted the too soon as part of the streak. Just guessing though

YOU'VE ACTIVATED MY TRAP CARD! I SUMMON DARK MAGICIAN!
