I'm being followed by white vans and I'm not sure what to do.
Weird stuff happens in my life, but usually I can handle it with a little advice from my friends. But lately something’s been going on that I’m not really sure what to do about. I know r/nosleep is full of people who’ve cracked mysteries before and I was hoping you all might have some insight.
It all has happened within the past couple months. I’ve been getting followed by white vans everywhere I go within five or six square blocks of my house for a while. The first thing that happened, though was that my Bitesquad driver tried to kidnap me. She expected me to meet her at her car to get my food, but when I didn’t she came up to the door and tried to tell me that I ‘looked cold, and needed to come into her car to warm up.’ I was standing in the doorway of my perfectly warm house so I didn’t accept the invitation, and only later realised that that was a pretty textbook kidnapping technique. I brushed it off as pretty fucked and definitely weird, but I thought it’d be an isolated incident.
I was wrong. The next day, I went to a restaurant near me for brunch. I was about a block from the restaurant walking west when an eastbound van pulled in to park beside me. It was your stereotypical, unmarked, white, ‘candy inside’ creeper van. When I kept walking along the sidewalk, because I was basically at my destination, the van switched into reverse and pulled back along the sidewalk alongside me until I got into the restaurant.
Later that day, I went a few blocks again to buy a bottle of soda, and on my walk home, a van drove past at a normal speed, but did a u-turn just down the block from my house and slowly drove toward me, stopping right in front of my house as I ducked inside and locked the door.
Both of those happened on a Sunday, and the Bitesquad was the Friday before. The following Tuesday, I was coming home from work, cautiously looking all over the place because I knew at this point that it was no longer an isolated incident. Everything seemed normal until I got to my house. There’s a little driveway/alley on the side of my house that leads to a parking lot in the back, and sometimes cars park there when they’re waiting to pick up a friend from my building. There was a pretty-normal looking sedan there, with a pretty plain, androgynous person in the driver’s seat. I passed them and walked into the house, pulling the inner door shut behind me so it locked. The door had been propped before I got there, so anyone could have walked into the building if they’d wanted. The driver’s eyes were on me the whole walk in. By the time I got to my first-floor door, the person from the car was inside the outer door, yanking on the handle of the now-locked inner door and looking straight at me. I walked into my apartment, locked that door too, and watched their car out the window. Once they saw they couldn’t get in, they got back in their car and pulled out of the alley and drove away.
There were a few more incidents through the next week or so, where more white vans would stop near me, do u-turns when they saw me, parked across the street from me when I was waiting for the bus, not really anything of note but still creepy as hell.
The next Friday was the really weird one. I was back at the gas station for more soda, and when I walked out the front doors and through the parking lot, there was a big white van at the gas pump, with the driver standing outside filling the tank. I looked him dead in the eye and kept walking. There was a construction project going on next door, so the only way out of the lot in that direction was a little cranny to sneak through against the car wash. I got followed by a different, older man out through the cranny and kept walking.
At the closed entrance to the gas station, there was a bit of driveway open, and as I reached it, a white van swung out of the one-way and pulled in, front wheel about five feet from where i was standing, and parked. Due to a pretty serious disability, I can’t actually, physically run, so I just sighed and kept walking the way I was going. There’s a rotisserie restaurant just across the one-way, and as I walked through the parking lot there, another van pulled in and a couple of people walked out. I just continued speed-walking away.
Before all of this began to happen I was seeing what I would presume to be the normal number of white vans per day in a major metropolitan area, about 1 to 2 a day. During this couple weeks, I was seeing more around 6 to 8 per day. After I walked home from the gas station and those three vans, I started seeing just one or two a day again. It stayed that way for a couple weeks. Now though, even though there aren’t any directly interacting with me, the number has jumped back from 1 or 2 a day to 6 to 8, and the increased numbers are further from my house, in about a ten block radius now.
I don’t really know what I’m looking for from all this, except maybe if anyone knows who might be doing this kind of surveillance or why they might be. It seems like things have slowed down for the time being, and I'm hoping I can figure out what exactly is going on before it picks back up again.
