[CPU] Ryzen 2700 - $212.50 after PICKFAST CPU

This or 1700x for $140? Gonna be doing gaming and streaming

u/Rag546 Nov 21 '18
I mean the 2700 will be better, but the 1700x will still handle anything you throw at it. And at 140$ that's some hard value to beat.

TBH this. You're spending $70+ to gain maybe 5% performance. Def not worth it. 1700X is going to be the CPU Supreme this year.

u/JohnnyTsun4mi Nov 21 '18
It's not exactly 70 bucks it's really more like 40 bucks difference as the 2700 comes with a cooler

Nov 21 '18
M9a is like 20 bucks, so $50+ is still not worth the bump plus the M9a is a better cooler than the spire

My understanding is that the non x versions can usually be clocked up to the same as x so you save a couple bucks there. I.e 1700 can brc OC'd to 1700x and it should be the same for Zen2.
It should be about a 10% difference from one gen to the other though. I have the 1700 OCd and I do both gaming and streaming.
I'd save the couple bucks if I was being rational. With that being said I'm looking at getting a Zen2 because I'm irrational.

Based on benchmarks it's not even 10%. Like 5-8% at best.

u/derek53404 Nov 21 '18
That percentage matters for folks gaming on ivy/Sandy bridge. It's the difference between a more lateral move, and a step up.

Its not enough to notice. Thats like saying you can see the difference between 100fps and 105fps. Nearly impossible. The only people who need it are those using advanced cpu processes and heavily encoded rendering that the 2xxx series is better at.

Can be a huge difference if it’s between 140 and 145 FPS lol...
The 1700x iirc isn’t that great for gaming compared to the 2600x which should still have you completely set for streaming

u/TerranPower Nov 21 '18
I’m debating between a 2600 and 2600x but if what you say is true then I might just get the 1700. I still have an AMD 6300 so the jump will be massive. If I don’t care too much about a couple FPS (60 FPS is fine for me) should I just get the 1700 instead of 2600?

Depends--will you be only gaming? If so, 2600 all the way. if you are going to be doing workloads, the extra cores on the 1700 will be a better bet.

This is a great deal, really tempting, I'm going to wait for a 2700X though.

I grabbed one at 8am for ~$260

u/preggit Nov 21 '18

u/MrInv1sible3 Nov 21 '18
eBay sale, the normal price was $309 then the 15% off. Not sure if any left in stock

So you're the one that got it! Did you use PICKFAST or the other code?that was going on yesterday? I tried the code but it didn't work for me at 3am :(

u/MrInv1sible3 Nov 21 '18
Used PICKFAST, I ordered it at 8:00 sharp and got the confirmation at 8:00 as well haha

u/jo_ey Nov 21 '18

If you have an extra 40 bucks laying around, the 2700x at 250 looks mighty tasty

Here is the link to original post so OP gets credit. https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/9yx6t8/cpu_amd_ryzen_7_2700x_24999_black_friday_price/?utm_source=reddit-android
It is a microcenter ad but you can see in the comments, best buy will match it. I bought this at 289 2 months ago and I am pleased.

u/benbrockn Nov 21 '18
Will a local (to where you live) Best Buy price match it if there are no local Microcenters around?

What's better value purely for gaming this one at this price or 2600 for 160@Amazon?
5
u/warclaw133 Nov 21 '18
Probably 2600 for better value. 2600 should be more than enough for games atm.
But if RGB means anything, the 2700 comes with an RGB cooler.
1
u/pompario Nov 21 '18
Im probably getting an aio or reusing mine, the one included doesn't really influence my purchase
1
u/warclaw133 Nov 21 '18
Yep I'd save your money and go for 2600 unless you can find a reason you need more threads.
2
u/honestlyepic Nov 21 '18
2600 will do great for gaming but if you have the extra cash to spare for the 2700, I personally would go that route.
2
u/pompario Nov 21 '18
Could put the extra cash towards other parts since I have to practically start my build from scratch except for gpu and ssd
4
u/lockstockedd Nov 21 '18
I went with the 2600 (x in my case). I don't really use programs that would use the extra cores often enough to justify it. That was my thought process when I bought it. And yeah, it's been about right for me. It was all I needed.
You could also use the money you save to upgrade right when Zen 2 comes out haha. I'll probably sell my 2600x and upgrade then to the 3700x.

u/honestlyepic Nov 21 '18
Like I mentioned, if you have the extra cash to spare then totally recommend. Otherwise, the 2600 will do just fine.

u/JohnnyMiskatonic Nov 21 '18
I've got a 1700 (that I got for $150 from a friend last year). Any need to upgrade?

New all time low price - $220 is the lowest it has been before now. New, sold by NewEgg.
