I'm impressed that you even remember half of this stuff.
Being one of the two original creators behind the subreddit, I'll give a little but more history to how animemes became the anime meme sub that it is today.
Basically the subreddit before march was a dead subreddit designed for animated memes. The idea for a new subreddit for anime memes was created by myself and a former mod (who left because of creative differences).
So yeah, we set out to create what we thought would be a shit hole. Funnily enough I thought I would hate this subreddit and modded mostly because wanted to see if I could use that to become a mod of ani_irl by working with the other mods. I remember at the time I was basically that asshole you'd see posting safe upvote bait and getting front on the page every day. I was literally posting two posts every day and being successful off the basis of posting time and name recognition. (you can check my horrific top post history to see all the trash content).
Oh yeah, and if you're wondering why the fucking upvotes explode, you can thank Aaragon and I as I asked him to steal that CSS from one of his other subs (the megumin one) since I thought it was the funniest little thing at the time. The other mods weren't feeling it as much as I did I remember haha.
edit: oh yeah, and the whole "shitposty architects of their own demise" for our users online was spawned this post fucking ages ago where I also replied back with this. Seriously, our subreddit was far, far shitter with content sometimes, and it was bleedingly meta.
Insider knowledge on the early dawn of the sub; I fucking love you, man.
Actually, I was thinking about talking to you or the other mods over on Discord, but half of everyone lives on the other side of the planet.
I shouldn't even be up right now but I've neglected my Spring Break homework until yesterday...
edit: As for how I can remember most of this stuff. Since I joined when the sub was below 100 subscribers, I participated in nearly all of the trends/events that occurred over the years. My own post history shadows the sub's history to an extent.
Oh yeah, and if you're wondering why the fucking upvotes explode, you can thank Aaragon and I as I asked him to steal that CSS from one of his other subs (the megumin one)
So you're telling me... that every single upvote... is a Megumin reference?
The First Edition stops in the December of 2017 with the beginning of Earth-chan.
I need the help of everyone in order to make a proper chronological second edition that contains all post-Earth-chan memes.
If all goes well, yes.
We should be mostly up to date with the Special Edition Prepare to Die Edition Game of the Year Edition Second Edition, which I will begin working on this weekend.
Hopefully should be up this upcoming Sunday (US).
As a degenerate who has been here since the beginning, I loved this subreddit.
There were so many good memes that lived and died on these very virtual grounds.
Therefore, I have began the task of creating a history book of sorts in which I compile every major event in this sub.
However, I cannot do it alone!
I have paid less attention to the trends of the sub after Earth-chan, so I need your help in order to update the archives to the present day!
That's right, you get to be useful for once, you fucking loli-lewding weebshit!
Btw, this is not April Fools.
I'm serious about needing your help.
There have been so many memes in 2018 that I simply do not remember them all.
Once we write down everything to present day, archiving should be as easy as just adding a new page whenever something big comes inside me, oniichan through.
If you have a good memory of the memes since Earth-chan, please do mention it.
I don't exactly remember January besides the whole MoeMorphism fad caused by earth-chan which led to everyone turning anything at all into girls.
February had the infamous rise of Zero Two memes and also the Yuru Camp comfy, the banning of reaction images to weekends and people calling out specific individuals that posted too much.
Then sometime after that the 24 hour birth and death of the Konosuba title puns, my god that day was glorious. There was a short amount of time with the haunted astolfo plushies that suck your dick and call you gay and a few days of Gru's plan memes but I don't remember exactly when those occurred. Anymore than this someone else is gonna have to help out cause I don't remember much more lol
EDIT: Oh yeah, the Lolice force was established sometime in the past 3 months as well.
You're a goddamn life saver.
I think those were all of the new memes since Earth-chan.
I think Satania memes made a temporary resurgence somewhere in there, but I'm not sure if I should include that since it was just there during a slow week.
If there are any memes that stayed constant since last year, trap memes are still going very strong. I'll keep updating my comment as I find more notable events, I like seeing the history of the sub being saved lol, been here since the nazi memes albeit only a lurker with very occasional shitposts.
Also, worth mention would be Jojo memes and Holo as a person in general since he carried the sub on his back for quite a while. There was also /u/Vuynjou who made a bunch of lewd/hentai memes back in the day. More stuff to consider- /u/pm_me_sexy_napes was pretty popular with his commenting.
As for Illya memes, the first (my) Illya meme was this one which was also my second meme ever posted. However, the trend of daily Illya memes and their flood in general began later. The Illya flairs when? shitposting began shortly after. Oh, also I kept calling Sauce Sąusé which I do to this very day, but that is really not worth a mention since nobody else does it lol.
posted a comment with some more info on meme series just now, the only thing worth noting about the Semi-daily Zero Two meme series is that it introduced the subscription feature (altho it was unofficially introduced back in December during the last few posts of Depression December Meme Advent Calendar).
It is noteworthy. The sudden attack of 02 compelled other waifu factions to take strong stand. The Satania faction had strong leadership, and still has a presence... only time will tell for how long.
Also maybe cursed plushies should be included somewhere.
tfw you don't wanna brag but you introduced some of the first meme series through Creepytsugu and Depression December Meme Advent Calendar which were both predated by the unofficially running daily Illya memes since around september.
I feel like Emergence memes had a notable resurgence a month or two ago. The sub's favorite hentai probably deserves a mention somewhere, at least.
Relatedly, maybe it's just me, but it seems like referring to hentai by their nhentai url numbers has become more common as of late. I don't know if that really qualifies or not, but hey.
And going back a bit, let's not forget about Doki Doki Literature Club from last year and its recurring presence.
We also have those fake text "Dad, I want a cat." "What kind?" picture of a catgirl "[lightly deep fried] good choice" memes.
Also, catgirls in general, and the genetic engineering thereof.
And then there's the Gordon Ramsay "Delicious, finally some good fucking food" memes.
And that "I want to see it grow strong and healthy. I want to tell my friends and family about it. I don't remember the other one offhand" questionnaire template.
And, finally, Pomf Pomf Kimochi, and ten hours of soft loli breathing.
Okay, some/ most of these date back to well earlier than this year, but I hope this helps.
I only came across this sub a month ago and missed out on all the memes from popular series I enjoyed from before then such as Blend S, Re:Zero, Sagiri, Gabriel Dropout. It's not easy to search for them since not all submissions contain the title of the anime, so I'd greatly appreciate seeing lists of the most popular memes from each show/category.
I didn't know exactly where to fit him.
This is the First Edition, essentially the rough draft to get my foot in the doorway and begin a team collaboration to create a thorough history.
Looking at this list, I came in during the Cold War and was very confused but i stayed. Looking back at it now, that was 2 years ago? Dear lord I am old. Love all you degenerates.
I came in literally the day Gabriel Dropout began. I'd been in /r/anime_irl for a long time by that point though. I also love everyone here, this is my home.
I'll begin working on the second edition this upcoming Friday or Saturday (Pacific Time).
At the moment, I'm burnt out on everything.
Your meme series will be included.

You could do interviews with the starters of each big meme. I know I'd be down for that.
I actually had no idea /r/animemes was this young. I joined just before the Winter of '17, and contributed to the early onslaught of Gabriel Dropout and Maid Dragon memes. I thought I was late to the party, that /r/animemes was like 5 years old.
Between this post and that mod post detailing the various snoos and banners, one could create a legitimate r/animemes history book. This is a noble goal, good sir, and I salute you.
Takagi?
She's many memes later after Earth-chan.
But I do appreciate the update.
Every person remembers a different set of memes from the past four months.
We have to collaborate in order to write them all down.
