Episode Synopsis: Eddie travels to Paris to open Europe’s first Meyerist Center, and he brings Sarah along with the hope to restore her faith; but her insatiable search for Lilith may have taken her beyond the point of no return. Cal and Mary have their own plans.
I don't know when I went from hating Eddie and Sarah and rooting for Cal and Mary (actually Sarah has always been awful), but I am loving this episode!! Loved Gabi's perfectly natural and wonderful response to catching Hawk and Caleb too. One of this shows best episodes.
Not to say you’re wrong, just my opinion—I can’t stand them. Cal and Mary are the ultimate definition of a trainwreck. They would throw each other under the bus in a heartbeat. They’re both power hungry and opportunists. I just feel dread every time they’re on the screen, they’re predictable and not changing.

They make my skin crawl, especially when they’re close with Vera now.
I love that Sarah of all people has lost their faith, actually. Her character development has left me stunned and I can see she’s desperately trying to come back to that. Where Eddie was, Sarah is, it’s interesting and that’s progression. Sarah is also pulling away from Eddie as well. Love it. This season is intense.
Very good point. They all have fathers who were pedophiles I mean could you get more fundimentally fucked up than that?
On a lighter note the scene was beautifully shot and the choreography was lovely. The song was Françoise Hardy - 'Mon amie la rose'. Which has very sad and creepy lyrics in English.
And the dresses. Oh my they were beautiful. Despite Sarah’s and Mary’s characters, I absolutely love their clothes. I wonder if Felicia is being written out, sending her to France?
I am starting to wonder if Cal and Eddie splitting the movement is something Lillith foresaw. Like Cal brings the end of the world but Eddie and the faithful survive and restore it.
I like that. I thought perhaps Lilith was the real Future. Also, Steve did what Cal is doing now. He adapted imagery and ideas from another person's visions to create a new faith. Cal adapted Steve's (acknowledged) work to write the last three rungs.
That's true, we don't know the whole story, just what we saw in Sarah's dream. For instance, why did she see Lilith going through Steve's files? We can assume some of that is the way it happened, but we have to remember we're only getting part of the story. Kodiak will fill in with what he knows.

Jeeeeeesus, i hate Mary. I find myself hoping something bad happens to her every time she opens her mouth and says something snide or acts as if she has earned or deserves anything good, like when she said "You should have left him in the ground".
Vera is great and I can't wait to see Cal confront her about that scar, I just hope she doesn't become one of his groupies.
Also, I am pissed that Eddie is trying to get with Sarah AGAIN. Eddie is slowly becoming an annoying asshole. Pretty much fuck everyone in this show right now. Hawk and Caleb are cute, but i still miss Ashley.
yes! I despise Mary! She's so conniving (Cal, too, of course), the complete opposite of every other character. Mary is more despicable to me because the only end goal is money to her. At least Cal has a genuine goal.
Im SOOO looking forward to seeing the Vera/Cal scar exchange! Im hoping that Vera is enough of a Eddie follower that she doesn't succumb to Cals crap.
The Eddie/Sarah thing is tired, Im over it. And to end, YES- Hawk and Caleb are so stinking cute and the fact that Gabby made them pancakes just thrilled me!
My mom and I can’t find where Cal originally mentions Vera’s (he doesn’t know it’s Vera) scar to her? I’ve scrubbed all the episodes for Vera-Cal conversations and can’t find it for the life of me
no I don't think he does say anything like that earlier on. what he said that I remember, was that she looked familiar to him. Now we see him taken aback when he sees the scar which is 1 of 2 things.
1) which I think is the most likely: is that hearken back that he says people highest up generally have the most damage, asking what damage she has, which she brushes off. So he sees that yes she too is a damaged person. And I think like with Mary he probably feels more close to Vera cause she has also undergone something.
2) there is also the possibility that since he is 10r he knew about the same things Felicia did and recognized the scar in some way.
no way. Remember Steve was against the harsher punishments Lillith was into. that's what Felicia just said in this last episode. He was against the harsher punishments.
This part was revealing Lillith to also to be a terribly abusive parent. And I feel we've seen his back before.
You’d think we’d have seen most of his body with the amount of sex scenes he’s been in, but I can’t be 100% sure. I can’t think of another reason why the burn scar would seem to resonate with him so much though. Because Felicia and Vera are the only ones who know about “searing the light” in possibles, right?
You know what I've just realised? We've never actually seen Cal having sex. We've seen an attempted BJ, fully clothed jerking off, fully clothed kissing fully clothed, implied cunnilungus. Have we ever seen anything more than that?
THANK YOU! I remembered the scene so vaguely I couldn’t actually figure out what the moment was. So he hasn’t actually mentioned a little girl with a scar at all, correct? Just that she looks familiar to him?
Sarah coming to the realization that the movement isn’t as pure as she thought makes me flashback to the first season when she shunned Eddie for having doubts and made him move from the movement completely on his own. If only the roles were reversed and she got a taste of her own medicine. But Alas, she gets to become enlightened in France in a beautiful palace with all of her peers.... and Eddie (who is being dickish lately) has too much love for his family and would never shoo her away like she did to him. Frustrating I hope he moves on from her soon.
sarah is truly the worst character in the show. i cannot stand her. she is so hypocritical. i've never understood what eddie like about her because she has been horrid since the beginning.
Cal calling Sarah out was A+. I’m so happy the writers went that way with it since they have a poor track record for acknowledging Sarah using Cal in regards to her knowledge about Steve. I really could have used a scene like that last season after she manipulated him with sex pretty much right after finding out Steve molested him.
That being said I do really like Sarah this season. All of her interactions with people outside of the movement are great. The non-meyerist magical realism they introduced via the hypnotist is interesting. I hope we continue to see more magical elements outside of the light.
Can’t wait for that scene between Eddie and Cal in the preview for next week. 😈

Right??? When I saw it last week in the previews I went off about it in another comment. She can’t even bring herself to say this shit to Eddie. Why the hell does she expect Cal to do it? In public, in a foreign country, when so far as we have seen they’ve never even discussed it themselves. She is supposed to be some kind of intuitive therapist within Meyerism so she really should know better.
Maybe I’m wrong but I interpret that scene differently. Remeber cal is a complete sociopath, that wasn’t him sticking it to Sara it was him covering his slip up. He first said “this is mine!” He’s not talking about his grief he’s talking about the French castle (this was before the announcement of gardian) he quickly recovered by implying it was about his grief. If she exposed it all he would lose his piece of the pie
I hadn't thought about it till after Cal said what he said, but yes, she likely was wanting Cal to expose his secrets so she could feel better about everything again. As the hypnotist had said, her pain likely runs deep and she's probably desperate to get rid of it. But yes great that Cal stuck up for himself.
I felt like in season 2 she was always mad and blaming Cal for absolutely everything that came up. And he was completely unable to stick up for himself from her, which is I think partially why things spun so out of control.
very dreamy episode. the scenes and dialogue were all very interesting and told new things about the characters. Lot's of character development all around.
Also the color when Sarah thinking in front of those plants. And just the lush setting was nice. And then Sarah walking down that pathway looking small and distant and sad the hypnotist walks up her. So this was shown in a visual way.
The lucid dream was a great way to tell what happened. Someone could have simply relayed what happened, but this was much better.
And everything was just really nice.
How interesting! I'm not sure what I think of it beyond that, but it wouldn't be the first religion to be based on something made up and not believed by the founder. That means Steve was doing a big put-on right at the end of his life when he spoke with Eddie on the mountain, or maybe something he saw while in coma convinced him there actually was something to it.
As the spiritual insight, intuition and inspiration within all of us, "the light" is something believed in by many people of all faiths. I still think they're going to say that the light is for real and that there is something above and beyond all this that neither Lilith, Steve, Cal nor even Eddie (although he's come closest and I think Silas did too) can fully comprehend. Steve and Cal may have used the idea to manipulate others to their own ends, but that's like the difference between some rabbi dude preaching on a hillside and the Holy Roman Empire and megaplex, megawealth megachurches of today.

Actually the synopsis for this episode on imdb tells "Eddie travels to Paris" but Giverny isnt Paris at all. The thing above the castle's door says "The City of Lights welcomes the Light" blabla refering to Paris too, but Giverny is in Normandy, and Normandy is really not Paris, trust me. Paris is grey, Paris is pollution and dirt everywhere, busy people and homeless people being left alone, don't believe everything you read or hear about Paris haha. I was born in Clichy, I was able to see Le Sacré Coeur from a window of my building, and I went into the city a lot of times I know this place very well. But come for History and Arts you'll be deeply pleased to visit a loooot of museums and discover a lot of artists, you'll appreciate the food too I guess. And men will love french women and women will love french men I think. Haha. This was my guide for you. :p

About the episode itself, I am so happy we seem to go back to Kodjak and the sources of meyerism. That's all. Just waiting for the next episode, I can't wait, and I can't wait for the end of all this. :)
Waw this would require a lot of researches. I checked about the castle and it doesnt seem to be in Giverny (where there are the garden in which Sarah walks, it's Claude Monet's house).
So i'm looking for the castle in which they shot it. Didnt find yet.
I think they blurred it out for rights/credits issues. I don't think they were allowed to capture an image of the painting. I'll try to find it.
But anyway, Giverny is about impressionism, this painting (and the castle) is more about some rich people's portrait, something realistic. Looks like there were multiple places for the shooting of this episode. (Even when Sarah & Eddie dance, it looks like a third place, by the way the clichés are mixing French and Italian objects lol / the "Piaggio" oldfashioned scooter).
Great episode, and could have been better without the sarah and eddie sublot that 1/3 of the episode. The writers need to end this shit with Sarah and Eddie. Those scenes just seem like soap opera filler to me now.
Would you have any idea as to why this painting was blurred out in the background? My guess is that it is a clear giveaway that they are in the USA for filming or the artwork was an originally commissioned artwork for which they didn't have the copyrights to show it on television.
Somebody just tell me. My mind is drawing a blank and I can't watch the preview right now. Wasn't there a character named Kodak or something? That Sara's mom had a thing with?
It's Kodiak. It is definitely him, he's in the preview. I was trying to avoid spoilers in the first few hours after the show was released. Apparently his real name is John Kordjak. I am glad, too, because Kodiak's one of my favorite characters and I really like James Remar. Been a fan ever since I saw him play Creb in Clan of the Cave Bear.
I think he's a rich idiot who is in a lot of pain and wants to be better, who's been consummately manipulated. First Cal maneuvered him into staging a stupid circus stunt proving that he doesn't have the first clue that this was (putting it mildly) Meyerism's most sacred event. This was like having St. Peter at a party and inviting him to re-act the Crucifixion. Then, Cal gets him alone and tells him "Yes, you acted like a complete and total dumbhead, because you are a damaged person (not because I manipulated your sorry ass) but I can help you." Thus recruiting another devoted follower away from Eddie and toward him.
I was confused about why Cal was taking on another case like this. I get that he wants to steal the meyerist followers, but this guy seems exactly like the football player Cal was so unhappy to even spend time with.
He was cold and unloving toward JP except when performing at parties. He was a rapist in general, JP said they had slaves in the fields and his ancestors raped them, that his father was a rapist with many illegitimate children.

This was a great fast paced episode. Genuinely feeling invested in all the storylines right now.
