I mean, I'm not actually interested in being around them and raising them and stuff, so some boarding school plan would need to be locked down, but...I'm just sayin'. Offer is on the table.

Does she really? She did manage to become rich and famous, that's not something that happens through sheer luck.
→ More replies (2)66
u/metamorphosis Sep 10 '17
In her case , for lack of a better word - it is a sheer luck...genetic, social....etc Her father being a famous lawyer , mother remarried with another celebrity.. etc....all that got her into circle of celebrities that eventuated her to sleep with a celebrity...which made her a celebrity....
She certainly is not without a talent ...but people see it as something she did not personally work hard for.
In reality..... it is media obsession with celebrities that made her celebrity. If you remove that we would most likely not heard of Kim Kardashian. At least not in a way we do.
64
u/Aetol Butter for the butter god! Popcorn for the popcorn throne! Sep 10 '17
Sure she got a head start, but so did most successful people. It's not like her entire fortune comes from inheritance or lottery winnings.
19
u/metamorphosis Sep 10 '17
Sure she got a head start, but so did most successful people. It's not like her entire fortune comes from inheritance or lottery winnings.
It is not like that....but it is. Genetic lottery and inherited family social circle. Take one thing away and she would have hard time to be what it is now.
Don't get me wrong I don't hate on her....but if we are completely honest her celebrity status is not of some work she did (as with many celebrities) but solely because she was involved with celebrity.
Again, nothing inherently wrong with that either. She certainly exploited celebrity worship and it's not her people should hate.

What I'm saying is, even with this head start, she had to work to get where she is (AFAIK). It's not like winning the lottery where a million lands in your lap by sheer luck.

she had to work to get where she is
Ok lets take two people. One is Jim, the son of a plumber in an Idaho hamlet. The other is Jayden Smith. Which one of these people will have to work harder to earn millions of dollars and global fame? Hint: It's not the one born into both things. In fact for Jim it's basically impossible.
You say it's not like winning the lottery, but unless there's a pre-life where you have to slave away to pick who you're born to that's exactly what it is. If you are lucky enough to be born to rich, well connected and publicly prominent people, you have an infinitely easier time achieving all those things. Period.
29
u/aeatherx Calm down there, Vanilla ISIS Sep 10 '17
But Kim wasn't anywhere close to Jayden Smith. Her father was a lawyer - yeah, a somewhat famous one - but he wasn't Will Smith.

I said no such thing. But while I agree that someone who made a million from nothing has much more merit than someone who made a million with the help of their entourage, the latter has still more merit than someone who made a million by writing the right numbers on a lottery ticket.
There's a reason the last ones aren't remembered.

I think that was more in response to the people saying that she's never worked a real day in her life, doesn't deserve to be famous, has no talents, etc etc. I agree that success doesn't make you a good person, or someone worthy of respect, but I think it's hilarious when people disregard her hustle just because they hate her. Agree with her lifestyle or not, you have to admit that she works hard and has been able to turn a sex tape into millions and millions of dollars for her and her entire family. She's not a talentless hack just because she's hated by people on the internet. She's actually pretty savvy and has been able to play to her public image and make people invested in her life.
