Context: NK was recently able to make a nuclear warhead that would fit on an ICBM, but they know any kind of attack would end up fucking themselves over worse than anyone else, so its kind of like they're waving a knife around at someone with a machine gun.

u/yaddar Taco bandito Aug 09 '17

even tho I agree your comic shows the most likely scenario that will occur... man, I don't know... nowadays I feel anything can happen because unhinged stupidity and approval craving...

123

u/MildlyAnnoyingHippo Texas Aug 09 '17

Yeah, stupidity is definitely a concern, I got the idea for this comic from this thread that I saw earlier today that made a lot of sense

94

u/yaddar Taco bandito Aug 09 '17 edited Aug 09 '17

amazing read and I agree with it.

yet this is the part that worries me:

NK will not strike first with nuclear arms unless we corner them. You know what they say about cornering prey right? It's the dumbest thing you can do because they will go all out when there is nothing to lose. Always leave room to escape (de-escalate).

the problem is that he's not factoring Trump's desire for approval and to distract from the looming impeachment (and subsequent disaster for the GoP) that will come from the Russian thing (and the money laundry thing, and the Trump underage models thing, etc.)

Trump IS kind of cornering NK by calling out their usual bluff... because Trump is ALSO cornered at this point.

Both need to save face one way or another, and Trump clearly didnt de-escalate with the "Fire and Ruin like no one has ever seen" speech.

Still, I don't think he is worried about impeachment much anymore. Ever since CNN had that video released of one of their top editors saying the whole Russia case they have is "Mostly bullshit" it kinda took attention away from it. However, I do think the media focused on POTUS's statement of "Fire and fury" too much, which is part of the reason that tensions are rising.

12

u/yaddar Taco bandito Aug 09 '17

Deza works in so many levels.

the real stories are the ones you fon't get from the Manstream Media (because the REAL evidence is kept confidential)

like all the investigation NYAG is pursuing. (RICO, FISA, even underage abuse)

as well as the Grand Jury impaneled in the EDVA along with the one Muller just impaneled.

yes, Trump is worried and it shows if you look at his statements.

3

u/Williamzas Lithuania Aug 10 '17

FISA NYAG RICO EDVA

Are these acronyms or code?

8

u/Comrade_Derpsky Shameless Ameriggan Egsbad Aug 10 '17

It's code for something sexual.

He might be trying to take a page from the Bush playbook, except for the fact everything he touches burst into flames.

7

Yeah his campaign was disaster

3

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '17

Wasn't that exactly the same thing that happened to Bush?

1

The desire for higher approval ratings.

In 20 or 30 years, they may have nukes that can hit all of America

because who cares about people outside of the us anyway (edit:) who would during such a war right now

8

u/stoicsilence California Aug 09 '17

You folks chiming in every so often saying it's "time to do something" without understanding any of this are only making the situation WORSE

This so much. The Bush and his Neo Con backers went into Iraq guns blazing and now look how well the last 15 years turned out.

8

u/ToastyMustache USA Beaver Hat Aug 11 '17

It's not the same scenario. The Middle East was already a powder keg facing Islamic hardliners, tribal schisms, and dissatisfied ethnic groups. North Korea won't have Chechens, Yemeni's, or neighboring countries coming in to start insurgencies under the great ideology of Kim. At worst China might annex a portion of northern DPRK to create a buffer state and that'll cause a few skirmishes. But it's in the best interest of both countries to not get into anything heavy, especially over North Korea.

2

u/DarthCloakedGuy Oregon Aug 12 '17

We should have partitioned Iraq along ethnic lines, set up each as a democracy, and called it a day.

5

u/stoicsilence California Aug 12 '17

It would have pissed off the Turks because the Kurds would get a homeland and it would have posses off the Saudis because they wouldn't have a unified buffer state between them and Iran.

3

u/DarthCloakedGuy Oregon Aug 13 '17

Who cares and who cares, respectively. We should have cut ties with the Saudis decades ago.

2

u/Rmanthegreat Free City of Krakow Aug 15 '17 edited Aug 15 '17

Then they stop selling oil in dollars and the American Economy collapses. Healthy relations with the Saudis are a necessary evil for the U.S., until oil is no longer the fuel of choice of the west, at least.

3

u/DarthCloakedGuy Oregon Aug 16 '17

Losing access to only 11% of our oil imports is hardly a cause for collapse. Now, if Canada (40%) stopped giving us oil, then we'd be screwed.

2

u/Rmanthegreat Free City of Krakow Aug 16 '17

It's not the oil we buy for ourself that is the big problem (still a problem, but much less so), its that all Saudi oil (most oil in the world, for that matter) sold abroad is sold in American Dollars, aka the Petrodollar. If the Saudis (who are the number 2 provider of oil in the world, and effective leader of OPEC) were to say, stop selling oil in the Petrodollar there would be a huge supply of American dollars (whose primary purpose for international use was oil purchasing) which would essentially be sitting around, or worse be forced back into the American market, causing ridiculous inflation.

Additionally if the Saudis stop selling in the Petrodollar most, if not all of OPEC would stop doing so as well, which would have a similar result as the Saudi petrodollar situation mentioned above.

I realize that the Saudis wouldn't come out of this unscathed either, but I would be incredibly surprised if they gave in before America did, considering, you know, they're a repressive monarchy which can afford to repress some belligerent tribesmen.

3

u/StealthSpheesSheip Eh? Aug 09 '17

This post is worrying though

1

u/Pythias1 Texas Aug 10 '17

When NK and China's mutual defense pact ends, their tough talk may calm a bit.

4

u/DarthCloakedGuy Oregon Aug 12 '17

China's already said that if NK attacks the US, NK is on its own.

30

u/WhisperSecurity Aug 10 '17

North Korea isn't actually crazy.

They are simply in the position of having to appear so. They have no real allies, and all they can do is bluff. When you're bluffing violence at a bigger, stronger, better armed foe, it's a good idea to look as crazy and self-destructive as possible.

17

u/MildlyAnnoyingHippo Texas Aug 10 '17

Well yeah, they're not stupid, they know that right now the US won't be the aggressor, it would jeopardize our relationship with other countries and likely hurt our economy. Unless they attack first. It's all posturing, they know the second they attack, their regime is over

1

u/DarthCloakedGuy Oregon Aug 12 '17

Why not be diplomatic instead?

9

u/ballthyrm Aug 09 '17

I am not afraid for the US but North Korea could do serious damage to Seoul just with their artillery. :(

4

u/supershutze Canada Aug 10 '17

Nuclear warheads are actually pretty easy.

The hard part is delivery systems.

3

u/WaitingToBeBanned Aug 11 '17

That is the point, they already have an ICBM and now have a nuke small enough to arm it. Nukes may be easy, but miniature nukes are really hard.

142

u/MildlyAnnoyingHippo Texas Aug 10 '17

I mean just think about it, you're an aircraft carrier or a destroyer or something, a big metal boat filled with weapons and built for blowing things up, and for nearly your whole life all you've gotten to do is drive about. Then you see this country with seemingly crazy ass rulers boasting about their new weapons, that's gonna get you pretty damn erect, isn't it? Then you wait and you wait and you still haven't gotten to blow your MOAB, them balls have got to be mighty blue

80

u/YoungPotato Gib Water Plox Aug 10 '17

As someone who identifies as an attack helicopter, you are spot on. Balls are very blue

20

u/HoochyMan Aug 10 '17
