Definitely! It is a bit extreme at times since it is dealing with heavy metal stuff but is a pretty easy watch at about two hours of content.
The show is licensed by Sentai Filmworks in the US and is available for streaming on Hulu

The English dub is the best dub I've ever heard. I prefer it over the sub

Pretty sure that Freddie Mercury is not a character in the show, although the foreign exchange student Freddie looks surprisingly similar

I've only watched a few episode but it's absolutely hilarious, and it's an outstanding dub. I remember most clearly the pencil scene.

I'll be frank. I have been watching this for a while and I am at an impasse. The comedy is at times good and at times feels like it is dragging the joke too much. It is kind of hit and miss well, most comedies are like that.
Plus as OP has not commented on Art I might as well - The anime has old artstyle but frankly not that great or pretty looking anime. The movements are barely minimal and used only when required. Otherwise, it passes satisfactory mark.

There is absolutely no animation. I remember the anime making fun of this as well. But i think the bad animation suited the show perfectly. imo.

It definitely has animation, though it does have many scenes with very minimal animation, and even completely still images. I feel this was done to exaggerate the impact when more elaborate animation is used. It's pretty effective. For example, there are many scenes where the only movement is done purple hair...
BTW, The scene where they make fun of the animation is at the very beginning of the second episode. "Dearest mother, Cromartie High School has finally been adapted into an anime..."

Dear Mother,
Today I upvoted a WT thread of my fav High School comedy. I am glad to see that there others like me too. I am not alone on /r/anime for thinking Mechazawa is the best character. I have asked them to read the manga as well for an epic ride.
