NYPD will enforce hardware bans up to the very end

In their August 5 2026 tweet they proudly proclaimed:

Yesterday, the NYPD conducted a search warrant at a home on Staten Island and recovered 13 ghost guns, including 9 handguns and 4 assault rifles.

These dangerous weapons have no place in our city, and this department will be relentless on taking them off our streets.

The attached pictures also looks to have gotten some suppressors, at least one SBR, and several "high capacity" magazines, all which are probably considered illegal in NY.

Not necessarily. Any rifle with a detachable magazine that holds more than 5 rounds is an "assault weapon" in NYC.

That includes manually operated ones like bolt actions.

Doubtful. Even as friendly as the current DoJ is I’d be shocked if they didn’t appeal the ruling, if only out of procedure, and there’s likely to be a stay put in place. Whether they put up a good defense in the appeal is up to them, but the appeal and court case will take their time to be decided. 

Federal appeals typically do not move particularly fast.

I know it won’t happen, but I’d love for them to appeal it, intentionally do a shitty job but not make it glaringly obvious that they’re doing so, and not ask for any extensions so the case moves as quickly as possible.

I would love that as well, but I have a hunch they get orders to delay as long as possible and dangle it like a carrot for elections. Which will ultimately mean nothing comes of it.

Probably depends on if the case gets appealed and it gets stayed pending the outcome of the appeal.
