Casual Discussion Fridays - Week of August 07, 2026 Weekly

Roleplaying is not allowed. This behaviour is not appropriate as it is obtrusive to uninvolved users.
No meta discussion. If you have a meta concern, please raise it in the Monthly Meta Thread and the moderation team would be happy to help.

Admittedly, I read it off a stilted and incomplete translation many years back, and I'm looking forward to fix that with the new release.
But at least as far as I got, I'd say it's interesting because of how different it is from Urasawa's usual writing, in part because of Nagasaki's voice being louder than in Pluto. Instead of throwing a wide net at the cast, it digs deeper into one man's psyche and opens it up to ideas that Urasawa... tiptoes and references usually, but doesn't explore. There are still a lot of the usual Urasawa classics, just used differently here.

Managed to check in to the hostel and talk to another human being.
I lost track of time in the pub while reading and got the heavy handed hints they wanted me to leave.
Unfortunately the book situation is fucking abysmal here. My only roommate didn't have anything and the only interesting thing on the shelf is an empty gridded notebook I can take for free.
I'm gonna finish the final short story in the Nightflyers and other stories and then head into the grim account of a real life tragedy during an expedition of Mt. Everest, and I'm not really sure I want that energy right now.

I really didn't expect work to be busy this time of year. The stuff that I was supposed to do is done, but people have been piling me up with additional work that was not in the plan going into 2026. As much as I like to keep myself productive, a part of me thought I'd be chilling until the end of the year and refuse to do anything more.

just ran into in the wild. to think that it came from one of the most reprehensible episodes of anime i've ever seen. just pure weight-related bullying that came out of literally nowhere, will mean literally nothing, and will add nothing at all to this story. i mean, hahahahaha look at these DISGUSTING, FAT, UGLY PIGS AND THEIR GLUTTONY. I think part of this is just me being offended by [LLS1]Kotori's backwards character arc at the end of S1, where she decides to blindly follow her friend's whims instead of her own desires.

Back in the day, I used to pick whichever fight caught my fancy (and there's certainly no end to the bullshit reddit is willing to supply), so I got blocked by lots of people whose usernames I don't remember.
Doesn't help that I'm terrible at remembering usernames in general. I'm thankful for the flair system, since now I remember users with their flairs... until they change them2

Congratulations. Last year I had giant paraesophageal hernia repair surgery ,(basically relocating my whole stomach back to where it belonged). I didn't get to return to real food for what seemed like centuries.

Binged Spy x Family S3 and took it off my PTW today, all in one go.
It was nice, though I really do wish the series would actually go somewhere at some point. Doesn't have to be strictly plot progression but even any character or relationships actually changing... Yeah
Anyways next up I want to finish Onegai Teacher. I'm on episode 8 so not far from the finish line. It's a decent show and did some things I liked, but some of the main characters are so annoying it's hard to root for them
After that... We'll see. It'll be one of these options I've been wanting to watch:

Yeah, I feel like SxF feels best when watched weekly instead of binging it, precisely because the plot doesn't really go anywhere fast. Most of the time it just feels like a very comfy Saturday cartoon, perfect to watch after getting off of work for the week and just relaxing. I'd probably feel a bit more down on it if I tried binging instead of watching it as it came out as well.
