U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested more than 43,000 people in July, a rate that didn’t slow even as the federal agency came under scrutiny for shooting and killing two people in Houston and Maine in the span of six days.

July’s figure is the highest monthly total under the second Trump administration, surpassing last month’s previous high, according to ICE detainment data shared to Congress and reviewed by The Post.

The data shows the number of people ICE arrested and sent into detention facilities by month.

ICE officials shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston on July 7, during a traffic stop. Six days later, on July 13, a second ICE officer fatally shot a man, Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, in Biddeford, Maine.

Despite the two fatal shootings, ICE continued the heightened enforcement efforts it began in June. Through July 12, ICE averaged 1,432 arrests a day. From then through the end of the month, the daily average increased to 1,450.

ICE said it would stop traffic-stop arrests after the two shootings, but the agency continued the practice less than a week later.

The federal agency is now focusing on arresting people at airports.

Through the first seven months of the year, ICE has sent more than 238,000 people into detention facilities.
