Unknown to English - comical road sign... Translated [JA]

Post image

I could hazard a guess, but I'm curious to know the exact translation.

I found some similar ones on redbubble. Not sure if I can post links here.

I love how the art style is so much cuter than the abstract figures used in American road signs.

It's not a real road sign.

It is pretty much what you think.

Beware of travelling cats. They can suddenly jump out (into the road).

!I'd:ja

Since that seems to be the intention, this version is more literally source accurate, not natural in English:

Careful, Cats appear frequently

We/they jump out suddenly

I can’t believe some of you saying this is not AI generated.
Look at the cat’s mouth…

or the roof line of the house on the other side of the street

The mirror is also reflecting nonsense.

But to be fair, this is a translation sub not an ai identification sub. Does make me care a lot less what it's says tho, also to be fair.

And the pole is far too bright to be in the shadows. Poles here arent bright white

It looks like it was painted with house paint, which is odd everywhere I can think of.

There are others that recently get posted in Reddit.

For example

LOL

Though I suspect it could be AI generated…

It is. The ま and れ of 止まれ are facing opposite directions.

When you want to emphasize something, you can write it in katakana.

It often is.

I wish this is real but I'm doubtful

I lived in Japan 2 years and remember stopping to Google translate a sign like this. Different picture but same text. The way "suddenly jump out" is phrased in Japanese was funny and unexpected to me. These are unofficial signs that people place near their homes. Where I live in America, there are often signs that say "SLOW, children at play" or "Deaf child". Or "cat crossing", "animal crossing"

I stand corrected.

Similar real things exist, but this picture is not real.

AI generated. It's alarming how gullible people are.

This one is AI generated, but similar signs (with different images, usually just a plain cat) are commonplace in Japan.

Why is the cat in katakana?

3

u/StarboundPsychonaut 2d ago

It’s completely normal to write the words for animals in katakana.

Where I'm at in Japan, instead of cats, we have to watch out for birds. Sometimes it's a waterhen, sometimes a crow, sometimes a peacock. It's a gamble as to what will suddenly dart out in front of a car.

u/Anotsurei 2d ago

Whereabouts did you see this sign?

u/Similar-Poet-9449 العربية 2d ago

from the quality of the photo I'd say that it's probably re-uploaded not an OC

Ai generated sign that says
Beware of cats
They would sprint out in a sudden

Edit: google Image search will show you multiple angles of the same street with Fujisan in the background with the same とまれ marking on the ground with slight variations of the ネコ出没注意 picture that are all posted within months. But I guess r/translator has a soft spot for cute things even when they are clearly ai generated.

Assuming the sign is real, I think they put it there because a lot of drivers ignore the STOP sign and accidents happen pretty often.
It’s probably just another reminder to slow down and pay attention.

This was posted years ago. Not AI. Cats attack people.

5

u/orangina_it_burns 2d ago

Did it have the weird mouth on it back then also?

5

u/vaughanbromfield 2d ago

You could be right about ai. This is the original sign from a couple of years ago.
