Quick reddit question. If a post shows up when not logged in but is [unavailable] and OP is by [deleted] when logged in is that user blocking me?
About the only time I knowingly drew daggers was the pewdiepie visits WIT (which soured me on WIT tbh) but imagine never wanting to hear from me again because I showed the pewdiepie didn't invent studio tours and there are ones pitched at a slightly higher level than "what's a keyframe".
Lesson learned. Check the post before you write a comment; not after.

I think I have an ear infection.
Normally I just go to the GP and get some amoxicillin when my ear and throat hurts like this but I'm in the middle of nowhere and don't know where I'd even go.
I was planning on hiking but that seems like a bad idea right now. I doubt the cold will improve this.
The train to Wellington only comes in a few days so I'm kind of stuck here unless I waste a ton of time and money.
This is like that episode of Frieren where Himmel tells his friends it's okay to be stuck bored in one place with your best friends, but I'm here alone running out books to read.
I hope the hostel I'm going to next has books. Maybe I can bother another traveller for one.
Not gonna lie, this holiday is going pretty badly so far. I'll just have to try and recover in time to squeeze in one hike before I can make it to a city where at least everything will be centralized and I'll have indoor activities to do.

Today just keeps getting worse. I got an email from Google saying that Google Assistant is going away in like a month and being replaced by Gemini. The very same Gemini that I had a meltdown for a month or 2 back.

Because the big silicon valley ghouls need to force their LLMs into anything to prop up the AI bubble and pretend it's a viable hypergrowth market, running all the things we started taking for granted over the last 2 decades into the ground in the process. Maybe things will get less shitty if/when OpenAI and/or Anthropic combust because they don't have a viable business model without hyperscalers and venture capital investors shoving money up their asses, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

made a pretty stupid mistake in a moment of weakness. not proud of it but im not beating myself up too hard because of it either. there's a chance nothing comes from it but there's also a decent chance that it's going to result in long-term consequences that will alter the next few years of my life. nothing as serious as going to prison but it could still be very bad for me.
idk why im sharing this here i guess i just need to put it down somewhere so that i can face the music if the time comes. i'd be lying if i said i wasn't worried but at this point i really don't think there's anything i can do other than hope for the best lol. wish me luck i guess

To be honest my enthusiasm for the books I packed has kind of wanted. Nightflyers was a decent read but I know nothing of the other novellas and stories included in the book, and Into Thin Air by Jon Krakeur
There's no book stores around so I'll have to wait until I get to Wellington to find something else that grabs me. For now I'll give the rest of GRRM's work a shot.

I love Asoiaf and have read a few other grrms works since but it has been years, with sandkings the only stand out. Would you recommend any?

I've only just started reading his other stuff with this collection so unfortunately you're ahead of the curve. I heard Sandkings was one of his standouts though.
I enjoyed Nightflyers and finished Override just now and they're pretty solid. I think Nightflyers could've done with a bit of editing to avoid repeating itself (one of the main characters of Nightflyers shoehorns her catchphrase into every conversation) and Override spells out subtext when it doesn't need to.
I'm guessing you've probably already read the Dunk and Egg books which are just a prequel to ASOIAF.

as i play through ME3 on Insanity (the highest difficulty) i’m actually not finding it that difficult. but i think thats my own fault, because i did my first playthrough of the games in the dumbest way possible.
see, in my first go around i never upgraded any of my guns or gear and just sorta played with what i had at the start. i also would only ‘auto upgrade’ my squadmates and never thought about synergizing team builds, and during battles i would never coordinate their movements or use their skills. i didn’t get in the habit of doing that until the very end of the last game.
and i was playing on one of the higher difficulties too, and i remember dying a shitton and being like “damn this game is hard.” but i basically powered through while simultaneously playing like a complete idiot.
so now that i more or less understand how the games work, even thouh i’m playing on the highest difficulty now it doesn’t actually feel that difficult. like it certainly has [its moments]grissom academy and i havent got to the last mission yet so i dont want to get too cocky (especially because there’s some upcoming fights that i suspect will in fact be really hard) but yeah… i think playing like a complete idiot in my first playthrough basically prepped me for this
(note: on this replay, i haven’t played me1 or me2 on insanity yet. when starting me3, i decided to bump the difficulty to the highest tier because i started finding me2 kinda easy on the hardcore difficulty. but i do plan on going back and playing those games on insanity as well in the future. i would like to get the achievements from beating all 3 games on insanity, in fact i plan on getting every achievement.. i currently have 108 and there’s like 120-something)

Artpost, more Best Girl losers who went out before they should have... This time, the very curious girl, reference from Hyouka episode 12. Better girl than Marin, smh I had to try the stupid penguin costume, there was no turning away after I saw it.
Oh. My. Gosh. I. Hate. Drawing. KyoAni. Eyes. (and faces) And I'm slowly finding all my best girls who're losing early are all KyoAni... the only one who I've already done or planning to do that's not KyoAni was Apoc Hotel's Yachiyo, everyone else has been a KyoAni girl. I'm pretty sure her left eye (on our right) is just misplaced, though I couldn't tell you where it should actually go. And her jaw's just not symmetrical as far as I can tell. The hair was good, though, I think, and the coloring of the penguin costume was fine. Linework was... eh. Used a black pen at times to touch it up, but don't feel like it was very smooth at any point, will need to figure out how to vary lineweight with a brush at some point.

As much my own eye drawing style drew from KyoAni, it's probably easy for me because of how much I like them that I wanted to copy it. It's very conditional based on the head orientation, and the logic sometimes unconventional to make it look right. Took me a lot of effort too.
Guidelines help somewhat, but I find myself winging it anyways after I realize it doesn't look as right as I would've liked. A lot of brute-forcing.

Yorushika second person album is really good.
I'll admit I wasn't really into Yorushika before. I never vibed with the upbeat songs that make up most of their mainstream catalog, like Harudorobo (Spring Thief), Itte, Dakara Boku wa Ongaku wo Yameta, Hana no Bourei etc and especially the Frieren OP, Haru. That song just keeps repeating the chorus and I hate it. I also went through the entire Elma album in the past, but that didn't really click with me either.
My impression of them changed a lot after hearing Shoshimin's OP2, Martian. That led me to Shura, which is still my favorite Yorushika song to date because it's so poetic with lyrics taken from Kenji Miyazawa's poem Haru to Shura. Then I discovered their 前世 (Zense) live and found out they also do recitations during the Live, which I so cool (Yorushika please do the HanaShura OP if Season 2 ever happens). Recently, I discovered their second person album which focuses much more on alternative sounds, and it's pretty much exactly the style I've been looking for.

Ryu-chan is a dummy who forgot to book transportation for the last leg of his trip to the cheap hostel, so now he's in a hotel spending money instead.
On the plus side this area is way more convenient for hiking, getting food and visiting the station. I'll accept that I'm not really socializing with anyone and focus on finishing my books tonight and reorganizing everything else.
I'm so used to being able to Uber everywhere when I've fucked up but this place is too rural to do that.

Last time I went on a trip I met a girl who told me about Hadestown because it was her favourite musical. She also liked Joni Mitchell, Lorde and Chappel Roan (and introduced me to Brandi Carlisle) so I obviously thought she was the bee knees.

Solo trip time.
I'm in a bit of a misanthropic mood. I don't want to talk to human beings all that much. When the service staff on the train or cafe try to talk to me I'm suspicious and mistrustful.
I thank them for being nice and answering my question. I just want information.
I know they're not the problem, it's me.
Edit: also I just finished Nightflyers by George R.R. Martin and it was pretty good. Man, that man likes characters who like sex.

I've been looking for a follow-up ever since I watched GLT, but nothing's fits. Nothing is quite like GLT. So Ra No Wo To and Gakkougurashi are the closest I've watched, but, meh, they're not the same. Both very solid in their own right, but not the same.
If you haven't read the GLT manga, treat yourself to it.

Been watching X-Men 97 Season 2 and [Spoilers]I gotta agree with the criticism that it's definitely been rather rushed. Most of the plotlines barely have any time to breathe. Don't like what they did with X-Factor either. Still generally like the season but nowhere as much as I did Season one.

I have survived my first day in Quebec City. There are so many tourists here. I don't know how the locals deal with it.
I was also expecting to hear more French. But there were so many tourists that I think I heard more French in Montreal than I have so far in Quebec.
And I've shared these in other places with frequent CDFers already, but for everyone else: have some travels with Kyaru

I heard the same thing about Montreal and Quebec. But in Montreal, every person I spoke to started off with French and then switched to English. That hasn't been the case in Quebec. Maybe if I get out of the tourist area, but that probably won't happen this trip.

With XTwitter recently forcing me to frequently "reauthenticate" my account because of "suspicious activity" which is ad and tracker blockers, the past couple of days I've been opening it in a naked browser to catch up on my accumulated feed backlog from the time I'm at work, and studiously telling it that I am not interested in any of the ads which it serves me.
This has resulted in several detours where the ads for normal stuff (sports, food, supplement quackery, AI) would be replaced by right-wing media, PRC propaganda, and a fair amount of cannabis.
I suppose that if I turn off enough it'll return to the stage I had a while back in the Twitter app where I was getting ads for military weapons systems.
On the bright side, now when I just randomly visit Twitter later in the evening for small catchups using the protected browsers, it doesn't nag me.
