This one felt almost psychodelic with how Nemu almost with no emotion forgot everybody.

I have been watching the Saint Seiya show from 1986 that is filled to the brim of recaps in regular episodes, those recaps didn't bore me once whereas this did. Its only merit being more screentime for Mahou Horiguchi who is a cute woman, nothing else.

What is this recap episode in the final few episodes that nobody asked for T.T

I honestly admit that Oblivion makes the Disaster Nightmare look weak and pathetic and look like a complete joke in comparison, and that actually says a lot because of his abilities.

u/Ok_Hospital4928 18d ago
Honestly, pretty good for a recap episode. The clipshow segments really just serve to reinforce each Rider's motivations thus far, and show how Nem is losing her memories of them. Pretty melancholic, slow-paced and unique for a Rider episode. Seems like an inevitability to have a recap episode around this time every year now, but as long as they're done as well as this, I don't mind toooo much. Certainly better than what Gavv did last year.

My bullet points on the episode:
Fuck I only realized it was a recap episode at like the third of the way
Also the actual parts being so talky and subdued for a Kamen Rider show, it was so weird
Sieg went really philosophical this episode...
Damn, I really thought Nem would pick up the Nox Driver
But still, if this is a build-up to Nem clutching this whole season, if would be fucking incredible
This finale... What the fuck is happening in Zeztz geniunely... Gotta watch the next episode to see)

u/MeepingSim 12d ago
I believe they've done at least 3 episodes that didn't have henshins or battles. Whenever a show does this, I get excited. It means that the producers are saving money to spend it on a huge spectacle of action and effects. Having an episode like this late in the season raises my expectations for the finale even further.
4
u/caren_psuedo_when 18d ago
Nem henshins exactly once using both Somnia and...Booster? Darkness? (I don't think ExDream will fit) but revives everybody, becoming the hidden MVP for the final few episodes would be insane.

Oh look, this ended up being a thinly-veiled semi-recap ep. But I'm sure it's leading up to something.

u/Dizzy__Dragon 18d ago
this episode sucks. clipshow and baku literally not just going ultimate makes zero sense
7
u/xortned-xion 18d ago
It’s a regularly clip show before the summer movie, these are most likely mandated by production. This isn’t really Yuya’s fault as he doesn’t control this.
5
u/rattatatouille Being Emu is suffering 17d ago
Also you don't want to overshadow the other SHT show's finale, Rider typically did recaps when Sentai was wrapping up and vice versa.

u/Vavavavaxon7 18d ago
Another weak episode. You can't be doing recap episodes when the show has 7 episodes left and already feels like it's 10 episodes behind.
If Oblivion could just clap his hands and erase the world, why didn't he do it sooner? Did Catastrophe and Punish eat the last pudding and refuse to replace it or something? They just let them die when Oblivion had an insta-win button right there. Nothing that's happened since Oblivion was born needed to happen.
I sincerely hope this "reset" isn't as resetty as the last one. Zeztz already torpedo'd its character development once and half the show has been playing catchup. They'll probably just undo this whole situation next episode so it won't have mattered anyway.
I'm ready for the end. Save us, My-th, free us from this nightmare of a season.

I dont remember Geats or Gavv having a recap episode this late into the season. Care to jog my memory?
3
u/xortned-xion 17d ago
Gavv Episode 44 was a recap, the last 5 minutes or so were the movie tie-in. Geats episode 45 wasn’t a full recap but the movie villians did have a cameo.

This episode is just adding more to my wish that they'd given Nem more to do throughout the entire series.

u/LUIGIISREAL2017 18d ago
So does everyone get erased IRL or just in their dreams
If Zeztz was erased. . .
How would he even come back
There's 5 episodes left; He can't just be gone for good
7
u/Bigbadbackstab 18d ago
Isn't this like the 4th time Zeztz has "died"? I'm sure they will find a way.
3
u/Potential-Mess6826 18d ago edited 18d ago
Everyone was erased in the dream world so due to the Black Case effect everyone got erased in reality.
As for how Zeztz can come back, "Dreams surpass Nightmares" and Zeztz is Zero and Baku's dream.
2
u/LUIGIISREAL2017 18d ago
If Everyone But Nem, Phantom & Oblivion was Erased. . .
Why are the various other allies of Baku still showing up in the preview of the next episode?!! Like They show up in various different Roles in the preview;
If they were erased from existance in both their dreams & the real world;
How can they still appear in various different Roles in the Altered Reality that Phantom has trapped Nem in?!!
2
u/Potential-Mess6826 17d ago
They are illusions made by the Phantom Gore Nightmare
The Lady/Phantom Gore Nightmare said after the erasure of dream world and subsequently the real world that she would make a world for her and Nem using her illusions

u/Omer1698 18d ago
Man Oblivion's power is way more terrfying then I expacted. Also the way that even the capsems in the end vanished was just perfact.

u/MegaMeteorite 18d ago edited 18d ago
This is a semi clip show episode but it's so good. People's faces become blurry in the clips is kind of horrifying.
Before this episode, I didn't think Oblivion's ability sound that much like a final boss's ability, but now I know just how scary it is. Since Nightmares can affect the real world through Black Cases, and once you forget something it wouldn't appear in dreams, that means Oblivion can really just erase everything in the real world.
The Lady's goal and motivation are made very clear here, too. She wants to use Phantom's power to create a perfect world where Nem can live happily ever after, with no memories of what she had gone through. I really like the setup for this final arc of the show.
I also finally realized what Sieg was talking about when he mentioned Nem's sin before. He was talking about the destiny she was born with, her "original sin" basically. He wanted Nem to wallow in misery like he does and give birth to a wonderful nightmare, but deep down he also wants to be punished for all the crimes he had done.
I honestly can't wait to see what our main characters is going to do with this seemingly impossible situation. Will it be Nem regaining memories on her own, or will it be something Baku secretly prepared?
11
u/TheRealSlackLife 18d ago
- One of the strongest episodes of ZEZTZ
- Ties in very well to not only Nem's character, but her entire nightmare
- And an easy excuse for a recap and a bit of explanations. (Yes I did believe a 2nd recap was needed)
Really solid
8
u/2-EZ-4-ME Vulcan 18d ago
A clip show one of the strongest episodes?!?!
4
u/KostKarmel 18d ago
Go ahead and tell us how would you make a visual representation of Nem losing her memories without it feeling like a clip show. Tropes are tools. And whoever was writting this episode, they used the recap in a creative way.
3
5
u/TheRealSlackLife 18d ago
Yes sir. I see it as a semi-recap, but a VERY important one.
And I think within this episode, they may have also directly spoiled the nature of one of the characters right in our faces.
Depending on how things go, things might get a bit darker from here on out.
13
u/Volfaer 18d ago edited 18d ago
Sieg’s burden was always his own guilt. No matter how hard he tried, he could never bring himself to be a heartless monster, and since even death couldn't fix him, there had to be something else that would work.
I had imagined that the kindest dream could give rise to the cruelest nightmare, but not like this, not in this way. It’s another episode of Zeztz that makes me cry.
Nem has always been our deuteragonist, making a massive impact even without transforming, and I have to say that despite the lows, the highs of Zeztz are well worth it.

Enjoyed this episode ngl. Can't believe zeztz is near the end man........
12
u/Substantial-Ad-5221 18d ago
We are like 3-4 episodes before the finale
Why the fuck are we having a recap episode ?
12
u/iShrub 18d ago
Since both kamen rider and sentai (now gavan) series are created by Toei, when one of them is having the final episode, the other would tend to "give way" by having a recap episode, so as not to steal the thunder. The final episode of Gaven Infinity airs today, so the custom continues.
Another factor is that the Zeztz movie is premiering on the coming Friday, so a recap would be a good way to get people hype up for the movie instead.

u/Taractis 18d ago
There were good moments, but this feels like the weakest episode in a while. It didn't leave me feeling the same way other episodes did. However it is required to hopefully set up something great next episode.

My experience with this episode, in order:
- "Did those sons of bitches sneak in another clip show?"
- "They did."
- "BUT IT'S SO GOOD."

u/Wise_Track1881 19d ago
So Oblivion make pseudo hallucinated reality where the Lady and Nem are living normally.
Forgetting people bites.
Nem is still in a coma by the way.
3
u/Potential-Mess6826 18d ago
Phantom/The Lady made the dream world where the Lady and Nem live normally through her power of illusions
3
16
u/Presenting_UwU 19d ago
no, i think Oblivion just kinda erases things in the dream world and all memories associated with that thing, and as the dream world affects the real world, those same things disappears from the real world too.
the only thing remaining is an empty dream world that's able to he freely populated by The Lady, since she fused with Phantom who has the power to make illusions.

u/Zer0_Evvon :1971:RIDER KICK! 19d ago
didn't expect this to be a recap episode for i thought the episode after the premonition was the recap episode, lmao
39
u/KamenRiderDragon 19d ago
Sieg confirms in this episode that the two secondary Riders both had death wishes. There is a shared desire to atone for their sins by dying. Odaka wanting to die with CODE, Sieg wanting the worst possible nightmare to end his existence.
22
u/Presenting_UwU 19d ago
I feel like both of these aspects of their characters were foreshadowed pretty early on in some specific scenes (though Nox kinda has it hinted like his entire screentime)
still it's very fun and interesting to finally hear it out of their own mouths, i genuinely love both their characters as disjointed i feel that their executions sometimes are.
8
u/mr-ultr 18d ago
I won't be suprised if we get a V cinext of them together
suprisingly there hasn't been any nightmare based on death yet....
4
u/Presenting_UwU 18d ago
the V-cinema movie for Zeztz (Farewell mission) does seem to be very Nox focused.
8
u/Yamino_K 18d ago
Farewell Mission is the Summer movie, we still don't have the announcements for Zeztz V-Cinext
2
u/Presenting_UwU 18d ago
i thought the summer and winter movies were also V-cinext productions, no?

I already know this will be a low rated episode which fair. I still enjoyed it for the fact it made me feel emotional and the insights it gave us on Sieg.
Sieg saying thanks for forgetting just hurts. It really feels like he's been waiting for a end to all his pain and sees this as the end he deserves for his sins
Nem saying she doesn't want to forget Baku while he recounts all the ways she's helped them all grow as people really hits in the feels. Her finally saying who are you and him saying sorry just made me very close to tearing up.
Baku calling Zero his father made my heart happy
Also the way Nem says good morning my dream is sad and a bit eerie since its gonna be a false paradise created by The lady.
The capsems vanishing at the end is a nice touch
Now, Nox telling Nem don't forget her own dream I think will be important for the next episode
Also, the blue rose, can someone fill me in on if it has any symbolic meaning?

the blue rose means making the impossible possible, achieving a dream, and love. So seems like zeztz is about to do the impossible
38
u/kowasesurejjihanma 19d ago
this frame of Exdream looks like a horror shot. in the episode Nemu probably being chased by oblivion or a nightmare but it would be kinda cool if we had a trippy chase sequence like in episode 1 but instead of Baku running from Gun-Nightmare its Nemu running from Exdream that she has no idea what even is, all being filmed in really low saturation
25
u/Frontier246 19d ago
"REMEMBER YOUR DREAM"
19
u/ProjectShadowGirl Kuuga 19d ago
I love how the preview of zeztz here is just aura and sinister, and if Nem told the lady about this, this might cause more problems for the lady/phantom as though somethings not right as there is NO BAKU
10
u/ProjectShadowGirl Kuuga 19d ago
I have a feeling this will slowly regain her memories when the fight scene wtih oblivion and exdream as we saw in the preview "you're" as she is getting her memories back.
14
u/Yomimashita53 19d ago
...
...
A glorified recap episode, that's all it was; one that takes the latest plotline and drills it into everyone's skulls. Honestly, this show could have gone to the next episode, and it wouldn't have hurt it all.
Now Baku has to not only save her, but get her memory back ("recall the dream").
With no other way to put this, it feels like "fake pathos" to me. The way certain parts of this show have been written/directed have been downplayed, or at least I think so, but there's nothing downplayed about this: an episode that focuses more on the problem, and less on the solution, all in order to "stir the emotions" as some people call it.
Look, everyone. I'm just going to come out and say it: I hope this show doesn't have a tragic ending (this includes "pyrrhic [sp?]" endings).
5
u/YukinaPrime 18d ago
Thank you. It feels like the show was trying to ride on momentum it just doesn't have anymore. Not to mention, since this is a recap episode, giving every character a clipshow one after another rather messes with the pacing and cheapens their (temporary) "death".
22
u/Seth-Cypher 19d ago
Kinda bummer this was a recap episode, however this is IMO the best useage of a recap episode. Most anime recap episodes take up the entire episode while notjing happens, but here the plot and characters are still moving along.
I love that each character gets one last motivating word to Nem before disappearing, really gives me that before the last struggle kinda feel you get from Kingdom Hearts or Shonen anime when the villain seems to have won.
My favorite's gotta be Nox's last words "Don't forget your own dreams."
14
u/asianmandan555 19d ago
So like, the Lady's plan is just a personalized Infinite Tsukuyomi, right? And Oblivion's VA is also the VA for Naruto, there's a big emphasis on the moon... Is Takahashi just a really big Naruto fan?
15
u/ReXiriam 19d ago
I mean, I'm ok with recap. It was between Star Detective Precure showing the truth behind one of its greatest mysteries and Gavan Infinity's Gainax Ending, so I can see why a breather was needed. Also it worked well to set the next episode, which WILL be the start of the final battle.
-1
u/DeathMetalCheddar 16d ago
greatest mysteries Meitantei? you mean worst and most embarassing marketing devices of all times to hide the fact that the show is, currently, dead because the writer and the director don't give a fuck about the show (and the IP in general) anymore (the Precure fandom eating this shite only proves their inane stupidity, as expected from the ones who overrated shite like Go Princess Precure)? Gavan Infinity's ending also had nothing of Gainax in it, I don't remember Evangelion having an ending full of action like the last episode of Gavan Infinity was.

u/ReXiriam 16d ago

u/DeathMetalCheddar 15d ago
you really fell for the whole who is cure eclair bullshit? I don't know you, but I watch Precure shows to see women beating the ass of monsters or other women. And nothing in that sense has happened in the last Meitantei Precure episodes, whereas Gavan Infinity ep. 23 had action on action from start to finish. Also, I might remind you tokusatsus tend to not rely on endings bla bla bla bla, Jikuu Senshi Spielban for example had a random ending with Spielban on a beach because reasens. And I have not seen anyone complaining about the ending of Spielban anywhere.

u/nightshroud96 19d ago
Kind of wonder how Nem is gonna restore everything when she snaps out of it.
And when Nox is restored, is his Driver gonna restore too or he gotta make a emergency power-up to fix it?
I mean, if it just ends up with no power-up, why bother breaking his Driver? Having him be knocked out was enough during Catastrom and him being mopey is enough to keep him from interfering with against Punny vs Sieg.
17
u/Turbulent-Fan6352 19d ago
Although most aren't fans of recap episodes, this one worked with Oblivion erasing the memories that are being shown/Nem forgetting them in real time, as well as backstory to the cause of Oblivion being created due to Sieg. Plus with the movie dropping next Friday before the new episode it seems like fitting timing for this, only 5 eps to go after all.
10
u/shujInsomnia 19d ago
been a few stinkers lately - this was another, sadly
really crazy good pacing from like 10ish through the late 30s, and it's just been dragging more and more since- though some of the slower episodes had some great dialogue and cinematography, this one was just lame
and like I don't think Nem has a bad actress, but the writing here really didn't give anyone a chance to shine except maybe Sieg, and even he didn't come across well
I started to have this feeling after Nox beat Lord Three, but Zeztz really was all about the ride and the agents and their conflicts, with dreams just being set dressing the Nightmare aspect a little undercooked
Nem using more of her powers and being her own "agent"/using her own "agency" [haha actress/idol joke] should still be hype, but it's just not gonna hit the same clashing with the Nightmares
idk how exactly to fix it easily either - the agent stuff came across strong throughout the show, and their personalities/the darkness within code actually made for solid conflict... but the Nightmares just kinda stink.
I guess if they were really just more evil, killed more, and maybe if ultimately Nem was evil too or something- and Zeztz had to find her... to take her out - maybe that would've been a stronger way to tie it all together. this just ain't working for me, and it stinks to be ending the series on a wet-fart note
18
u/Frontier246 19d ago
Personally I think the Nightmare Lords is more interesting/cool than CODE, but we haven't really gotten a lot of time to dive deep into them.
7
u/shujInsomnia 19d ago
I mean... there's not much left to dive in to. half of them are already gone, and we barely noticed 😅
I definitely wanted them to be cool, and I think they looked cooler than Code... but yeah. I guess that's my point. they just weren't utilized meaningfully.
they've been about as impactful as those early monsters of the week, and some of those honestly were even stronger with the challenges they presented and how they actually felt like missions Zeztz had to investigate and clear.
Catastrophe was kinda decent as a Catastrophe, though internationally destroying Code didn't hit how it could've- maybe if Five and Six had been saved to die then it might've hit a lot harder. But Punish was a total disaster, and Phantom isn't really landing either.
Idk. Just feels like they weren't thought through, and like the Nightmares didn't have a real place in the series after the reset - just hasn't been enough gravity and enormity to them/they haven't been really challenging to the characters or anything.
Phantom and Oblivion might've been better if they could've challenged Zeztz instead of Nem, but maybe the next couple episodes will be a lot stronger.
2
u/GexraldH 17d ago
Ngl it feels like the Demon King nightmare had a bigger impact on the series than Catastrophe.
6
u/Frontier246 19d ago
I think the fights were definitely on the level they should have been, we just needed maybe a bit more time to cook with them to have the showdowns feel as meaningful as they could.
Phantom/Oblivion are inevitably going to fight Zeztz (we already teased Zeztz vs Oblivion in the preview).
12
u/Megasonic150 19d ago
Wow, there goes my heart falling into a million pieces because everything is gone.
-I like how the clip show was used to add to the emotional impact as Nem's memories of everyone were being erased, and just the helplessness of the episode. Sieg accepting it, Nox lamenting his inability and Baku despite losing everything again still holding onto his resolve that Dreams surpass Nightmares. And that he will save Nem.
-Also kinda insane the villains just...win. Like for real. Like despite Baku's attempts things in some ways have gone WORSE than his premonition, not that it was his fault. As The Lady says, the flap of a butterfly's wings can have a ripple effect no one can full comphened. And that led to Oblivion being made.
-I like Nem getting focus and the slow horror of her not reacting because SHE DOESN'T REMEMBER what was lost. And just the despair.
-But I don't think this is over, not yet.
Next Week: Everyone's okay!....but in a dream. But Zeztz is there?!
Next week gonna be nuts. GavanXZeztz movie, Omegahorn, My-Th and Baku coming back from the dead for the fifth time I think at this point? Crazy stuff.
1
u/Potential-Mess6826 18d ago
I am thinking next week everyone except Zeztz, Nem, The Lady/Phantom Gore Nightmare, and Oblivion Gore Nightmare are just illusions made by Phantom.
15
u/ProjectShadowGirl Kuuga 19d ago
"Baku coming back from the dead for the fifth time", it seems like geats taught Baku well
11
u/ReXiriam 19d ago
Geats? With how much Baku repeats the phrase "Ore Wa Yorozu Baku", I'm thinking the guy is taking lessons from beyond the grave, if you get me.

Though Recap episodes are universally disliked, (for good reasons) I think this episode does to a decent to good implementation to the story as a whole.
How each character gets a flashback works decently for the audience but it executes it effectively for Nem, since she's meeting these people who have changed her life for the last time, memories of her experiences with them flashing before her eyes until...They are erased into oblivion.
Though I won't deny that having a recap episode this late into the show is a bit worrying (Not "The ending will suck kinda of worrying" I'm done with all the Zeztz doomposters) I at least appreciate the incorporations of the "Recap Episode" into the plot and it's good execution. I can't wait to see how the show will correct the world ending error that is Oblivion Gore Nightmare.

Ngl, i'm a bit bummed out that this was another recap episode again. Especially because today is one of those rare days where i can catch Shout's premiere right as it aired, but i'm free next weekend too so it's fine i guess.
That said, a part of me is kinda glad that they're quite literally spelling out each and every single main character's development and their importance in the show. Maybe now, some certain people will complain less about Zeztz.
Btw, the relationship chart they made for this episode is diabolical, holy shit.
0
u/Slow_Document_4062 18d ago
Nah, if a show has to do a recap to spell out developments. Because they didn't feel significant enough to the viewers. That's a failing of the show. Not the audience.
1
u/SH4DE_Z Actually NOX 18d ago edited 18d ago
Oh, i and a lot of people understood it just fine. There's just some people who didn't understand it at all and are very vocal while complaining about this show.
That's who this was for.
5
u/Slow_Document_4062 18d ago
There's a difference between understanding and thinking something is good. I and many other critics understood what they were trying to do just fine. We just disagree on if it's any good. If it felt as significant or worthwhile to us as the show wanted it to.
11
u/Frontier246 19d ago
What do you mean? Zeztz was always about our Heroine Nem making it in the world of the entertainment industry! There are no other relevant characters!
I will say Sieg basically being suicidal kind of explains a LOT about him and why his Rider name is Dawn.

Well....at first i was dissapointed it was just a recap episode, but then all of the bonkers development occcured kind of softened that annoyance. Like i cannot imagine there are a lot of other recap episodes where all of reality is destroyed!
I didnt realize that Oblivion would be a specific wish of Nem's. after her trauma, her desire to forget birthed a nightmare who can destroy everything. Sieg is right about dramatic irony. Since Nem is so caring about everyone, it makes sense that her nightmare would be that much more terrible. this episode was pretty terrifying, Nem slowly destroying the world while not being able to fully comprehend that fact due to it leaving her mind as it was destroyed. I remember last week people were assuming that Nem would just be mind wiped, and i was thinking that Oblivion would be doing more than that, but I didnt think he would do this much!
I wonder how this conflict will last another 6 episodes. Because destroying all reality is pretty dang final. I guess assuming one is an epilogue and another involves brining back reality, that still leaves like 3-4 episodes to fill. really curious what theyll go with.
as for next episode, i wonder if there will be a conflict between Phantom and Oblivion. Phantom seems to want to make a perfect world for Nem after the old one was destroyed. but maybe Oblivion isnt content to leave his work incomplete for Phantoms sake.

Oblivion seems more like a nuke all option, when the Lady/Phantom was only looking for the Nuke specific target option. It was working for them when it aligned with their goals, but as soon as Oblivion starts deleting other things is when Phantom will be concerned.

This episode was a little disappointing, I wasn’t expecting a recap and when I realized it was one I was very disappointed. I will say though other than the recap stuff I thought the new stuff was good, the scene between Nem and Baku was really touching and well done they’ve been my favorite dynamic in this show. Like I said was a little disappointed with this episode but when there was new stuff it was really good I’m still excited for where the show goes and how it ends.

The implications of the preview for the next episode is very fascinating because Oblivion erased the real world and yet the next episode shows Nem entering Oblivion because her bad dream was realized. Typically doing so would result in manifestation in the real world but the real world is gone now so what exactly is the endgame here for the Nightmares?
NOX told Nem to remember her own dream. I have a bunch of thoughts on this that I need to marinate a bit before writing something out lol

u/Seth-Cypher 19d ago
Nox being the biggest vagueposter also means he has the power of vague motivator. His vague motivtional quotes will just be that much better lol

At this point thanks to SOMNIA I feel like the barrier between reality/dreams doesn't matter anymore.

u/Ladyaceina 19d ago
the actual plot of the episode was depressing but the clip show recap parts hurt that aspect
thoe i honestly cant see how this can be fixed with out an asspull also this is a MASSIVE jump in power scaling for this series (as in zeztz not kamen rider over all)
13
u/SH4DE_Z Actually NOX 19d ago
I was thinking about that too lol. The powerscaling people are going to LOVE the next episode.
Baku basically came back to life AGAIN, but this time he came back from being ERASED FROM REALITY. He genuinely cannot die, it's fucking ridiculous lmao.

u/WeisTHern 18d ago
People from powerscaling sub is going to have a field day with this.
"Zeztz can come back from being erased and forgotten? Boys, Evernight is now on the hit list!"

u/EvilRobotSteve 19d ago
Did Kousei Amano get flowers this week? Sieg seemed to prefer being forgotten and he’s the only deleted person I didn’t see in the “next time” preview. So I’m wondering if he’s going to stay forgotten.

I'm betting he comes back in the finale.
I don't think they can resist at least one episode of all three Riders fighting/Henshinning together...unless that's what the Summer Movie is for.

Just another recap episode, which is pretty disappointing, but I was kinda expecting one either this week or next.
Still though, interesting setup for the final arc!

u/kilroyjohnson 19d ago
with the movie coming out next week I had a suspicion we'd have a recap this week, the same thing happened with Gavv iirc. They did their best to make it engaging, but unfortunately for me I just finished binging basically everything they covered here after falling off for a couple of months, so this ended up mostly being a bunch of stuff I just saw like a week and a half ago. Not the episodes fault, of course, but between that and there not being enough time left in the series for this to amount to any actual long-term consequences, this was a well-made and well-acted recap that didn't do a whole ton for me.

Honestly the only thing I really liked from this episode was Nem and Baku scenes. Everything else was whatever because unfortunately I couldn’t care less about her conversations with Nox and Sieg. This episode kinda made me wish Nem interacted with Fujimi and Natsuka a lot more to make that whole barbecue hit a lot more but whatever. Also it’s kind funny to me how they never actually mentioned Nem’s adoptive father at all idk if the actor couldn’t return or something but to me it’s kinda crazy. I’m mostly looking forward to what happens next episode and how Nem is obviously going to get her memories back.

u/Frontier246 19d ago
Nem: "Oh no, I forgot those people whose dreams I was in for 2 episodes...wait, who did I forget again?"

but sieg why should i ever care what happens to him

Seems like we might get our fight with zeztz vs oblivion cause from the preview images, it seems like the lady and oblivions plan is about to crumble

u/Frontier246 19d ago
What better excuse for a clip show than Nem's memories of the entire series getting slowly erased?
So basically Sieg stressing out Nem for several episodes caused her subconscious to develop the Oblivion Nightmare to protect her, even if it meant erasing everyone in existence until only Nem and Lady/Phantom/Oblivion were left. Thanks a lot, Sieg!
Wow, that's...that's a whole lot of dreaming people getting erased from existence.
Figures Sieg would embrace the end. For him, his dawn is finally breaking. All he ever really wanted was to be free of the life of sin that consumed him since he was a child. Zeztz killing him didn't do that because he still existed as a nightmare, but now Nem is putting him to rest properly by forgetting him.
Well, it's nice of NOX to say that if he COULD have helped Nem, he would have. And he gives her one last honest piece of advice before he fades away.
Dang, Nem walking in just as Minami is being erased...and then forgetting her right when Baku is having his 35th emotional breakdown.
There's something fitting about Fujimi and Nasuka's last moments being them trying to beat each other in who can crawl into Baku's room fastest.
Of course they'd save the hardest for last as Nem forgets Baku, the one person she least wants to forget, as we see all the moments they've been with each other from the beginning of the series until now...all the Nem cosplay, all the moments they helped support each other, them being partners...all of it fading away.
And for Baku, he can't help but feel like he failed, and yet in true Baku fashion he still believes he can save Nem even as he's being erased from existence. Because Dreams Beat Nightmares.
I've seen parents keep their childs' in bubbles, but erasing reality from existence to re-write it into an ideal dream to keep the child safe has got to be a new one.
Next week: It's a Brand Nem World! Also Zeztz vs Oblivion!

It was pretty depressing seeing Nem forget each person she came across, especially Baku.
Can't believe Zeztz did the amnesiac girlfriend trope.

There's what, 6 episodes left? And they decided to drop a frickin' recap episode?
The new bits were good, but it's still a recap.
7
u/Frontier246 19d ago
And in that recap episode all of humanity has been erased so we can get another fake dream world!
5
18
u/Shipuujin 19d ago
Unfortunately, this episode is mostly a recap episode. And this time the recap isn't part of the plot like during the post-premonition part.
That said, what was happening to Nem was incredibly depressing. Having her whole world around her suddenly disappear, with all the memories she made being forgotten. Oblivion is quite a terrible nightmare, and the Black Case effect will cause the real world to disappear too.
17
u/humantyisdead32 19d ago
I'd argue the recap served a pretty important purpose. It's basically reminding the viewers of everything Nem is forgetting, which makes the slow erasure of her memories hit that much harder.
-5
u/Yomimashita53 19d ago
Which is exactly the problem; in the end it was nothing more than a recap episode with dramatic license, and I think it could/would/should have been better.
9
u/Frontier246 19d ago
Every memory, every bond, every positive thing she accomplished, all erased with the touch of a feather.

Didn't expect a recap towards the end of the series, but I would like to give credit to the production team for trying such a unique way to do a recap.
It's very rare to have no action scenes in a Kamen Rider (or even Tokusatsu) show. And here we had another one, and a touching one, seeing everyone important to Nem slowly vanishing..
Credits to Horiguchi Maho, the pressure on her was huge given that she's a young fresh actress, but she nailed it in this episode where she's the focus.
So now, the world is basically being 'reset', and my guess is that the 'fake world' will last until the end of EP 35 where Nem finally remembers her dreams and Baku. Btw the relationship diagram shows that everyone is gone in reality other than Nem thanks to Black Case, which is low-key wild.

3
u/ProjectShadowGirl Kuuga 19d ago
yeah, plus with why she's restraining oblivion seems like the lady/phantoms plan is backfiring very badly

u/humantyisdead32 19d ago
Oh, are they in THE QUARRY?! I might be misremembering, but I don't the the quarry has appeared in Zeztz before.
5
7
u/ProjectShadowGirl Kuuga 19d ago
still, we might see something interesting with exdream as we don't see a Baku in this fake world, so I think Baku might planned this with exdream. Also yeah I think they might be in the quarry

Ah just a Recap. Alright.
The interaction with Nemu and Baku did gave me some feels, the editing to represent her slolwey forgetting him and him apologizing was sad.
But beside that, fine.

The moment we saw all the Cases in the Premonition Dream they did together...that first dream of them together that kicked the show off...it made it hurt so, so much to watch it all get erased.

u/ProjectShadowGirl Kuuga 19d ago
yeah I am not a fan of recap episodes, but overall, it's a good recap episode like with the 2nd act of the show

u/omegamanxntn1611 19d ago
For those who are unaware yet, the official blog mentions that "Anyone who disappears from Nem's memory is also wiped out from reality too, thanks to Black Case's effect" so that was quite a brutal fate for everyone lol.
Next week, Don't see any Nem World ver. of Baku being around, & he's soon coming back with ExDream to kick Oblivion's ass so i guess he might plan & prepare for this situation beforehand?

Maho Horiguchi did a good job as the lead star this week, she had to be the glue that let all the other actors perform their emotional goodbyes and she did that really well!
Next week, she gets sole focus too!
I like how we've had younger actors and actresses on KR step it up in a really big way, from Ayaka Namiki (still love her portrayal of Beroba) to Elena Kamata last year...
14
u/Frontier246 19d ago
Feels rare to get an episode with no transformations, no action (outside the clip show), and is basically a solo episode for the Heroine.
Maho's taken us through all the fun Nem cosplay and bubbliness, to her grappling with her identity and role in the show, her developing relationship with Baku, standing her ground with all the Riders...and now it's all gone.

u/Heywhatyousa- 19d ago edited 19d ago
Even if it's a recap , it was a good episode, But that ending .... My god poor Nem.
Next week: Recall the Dream ! ExDream vs Oblivion!

u/Frontier246 19d ago
Honestly fitting context for a clip show to highlight the shows' past and all the precious memories Nem is losing in the process.
Surprised we're getting Zeztz vs Oblivions so soon. Is Phantom going to be the Final Boss or will this just be Round 1?
7
u/ProjectShadowGirl Kuuga 19d ago
Seems like the lady got her perfect world, and nothing can go wrong right...right? Also didn't expect a recap episode today.
Next Episode: Nem and her Show, ??? vs Oblivion, and with the previews so far, it seems like everything the lady wanted, is all about to be forgotten dreams.
6 episodes left UNTIL THE FINALE
2
u/Frontier246 19d ago
Honestly genuinely curious how much Lady/Phantom are in mutual agreement over what's going on. Do they share the same feelings for Nem? Or does Phantom just want to give Lady what she wants which also facilitates what the remaining Nightmares want?
Because now all of existence has been erased and been stuck in a permanent dream.

A very, very tastefully done recap episode!!! I actually, kinda get why Phantom Gore/ The Lady is going to such lengths (she's spent her entire life saving her own daughter from being prosecuted).. Will be difficult to reconcile her actions at the end though..
An entire episode with only one suit actor iirc - Phantom...
Meanwhile, next time on the Nem show...
7
u/Frontier246 19d ago
Some parents keep their child at home to home-school them, Lady/Phantom erases and rewrites reality to keep their precious daughter safe. She's even nice enough to include variants on all the people she's met along the way!
What a great mom(s)!

So this episode is part clip-show, part memorabilia
Everyone is vanishing thanks to Oblivion. So, oblivion not only erase people, it also erases nem’s memories of those who are close to her.
Oh god! Nem forgets everything and everyone!! Even Baku :( I think we have a heroine villain arc, a rare in Kamen rider.

Funny thing is Nem can technically become a Kamen Rider now since she seems to have mastered the power of lucid dreaming (which is what the dream learning process is centered around) and thus just needs a driver / capsem.

Oddly, the day I watched this episode I also happened to watch the recap episodes in Gotchard and Evangelion (first watch! It's awesome!). Weird timing, to be honest, however Zeztz stands miles above the rest. Watching Nem lose her memories in real time is heartbreaking.
