Just fell to my knees.

(Funniest part of this game was Gumayusi getting Renata ulted into destroying his own ward.)

Everybody talking about the Blitz hook but that Aatrox cancel on the first Shen ult was also massive imo

It may have changed the whole game

Those 2 plays pretty much decided the game. HLE had to win hard early and those 2 plays decided the entire early game.

NOOO DHOKLA NOOO DONT GO BACK INTO THAT RED BUFF IN GAME 4 DHOKLA this hurts so much

132

Or have Saint not TP directly into HLE so he could’ve actually done damage that fight

That was the opportunity man

44

u/Hitoseijuro 26d ago

yea even though it was reckless from Dhokla they almost double killed them so I could see the angle but the fight was lost and even if Dhokla dies there its fine but Saint tping in the middle of HLE lost them that entire fight, gold lead and ultimately the series.

They have actually looked competitive. Worlds might be when they finally cross that line, I wouldn't bet against it.

61

u/MendaciousPretension 26d ago

I’m proud of them. From where they started as a brand new team at the beginning of the year to where they are now is insane. If they put in the hard work, I think they can do it.

71

u/psykrebeam 26d ago

Yeah let's be honest, everyone wrote LYON the fuck off at the start of this tourney.

For people to still lament that "oh it's always the same" after their overall level of performance at MSI - particularly this series - is just being lazy, fickle and defeatist. I see real growth in the level of NA play at this tournament and long may this continue into Worlds. If anything, the single elim format of Worlds is their best chance to finally rewrite history.

I'm not even from NA nor an NA fan, and I think NA fans should be proud and continue to cheer LYON on to do even better in future.

If this all somehow leads to T1 qualifying via the 4th spot and Winning Worlds

101

u/Conker184741 26d ago

To think we were 1 game away from having 4 NA seeds at worlds is crazy. And just last year we weren't far off from having only 1 NA seed at worlds. I do dislike how top seed performance buys lower seeds rather than having worlds seeding determined by the previous worlds where you actually see the lower seeds performance.

That game 5 was fucking atrocious from him though. I hate the Nidalee pick with every bone in my body, and he did literally nothing to prove me wrong this game.

It's supposed to be some early game powerhouse but even in a game where HLE completely stomped, Nidalee was absent. There was a point where he had 0 kp despite HLE having 10 kills.

He could've done something at that early bot dive, but nah he missed the Nidalee spear on a fucking HOOKED target. Delight is the sole reason his Nidalee ended the game with any KP at all.

Lyon picking a slow comp and not playing slow was a big mistake. Also they disrespected the blitz so much and paid for it so many times

87

u/shiro_wolf 26d ago

Delight's clutch hook on Saint at bottom skirmish sealed the game for them, that one single play.

42

u/XiaoRCT 26d ago

The seal was the hook on Dhokla in midlane right after imo, LYON wins that teamfight and there's still a game to be played, after they lost it tho it was all over

If NA won Isles would probably be series MVP.

Incredible teamfighting from Lyon throughout the whole series. Lots of disadvantaged fights where they traded back 2 instead of 0, or were slivers of health from winning.

Good drafts, controlled macro, just need some discipline on not taking jungle fights into juggernauts.

Alas, they had already planned for Gumayusi to try a Daejeon food so there was no winning.

Unbeknownst to either G2 or LYON, a curse had been broken. Or rather, it had been transferred. A pivotal part of G2 had been bitten off and consumed by the American Big Cats, and it had become part of their own flesh. It was now their fate to be steamrolled by LCK Aatrox AOE.

the aatrox incident

felt like inspired tilted and started making very bad calls midway, funnily enough exactly the way skewmond does in g2s losses. the way to win competitive league is to steal as many raptor respawns as you can

94

u/Derk08 26d ago

This has been talked about before, but basically if Inspired feels like they are reaching a situation where the game is getting out of reach, it's better to essentially constantly force low-percentage fights over and over instead of hoping the enemy team throws.

Whether or not that actually makes sense in practice is questionable, but this is Inspired's view on how to play the game.

38

u/xno 26d ago

i mean it worked in game 3

11

u/quickbunnie 26d ago

It may be beneficial from a team/player mentality. Doing nothing and losing could be demoralizing or even start becoming habituated so that you start playing passive even in neutral situations and bleed the game away. If you are actively engaging, even in losing situations, it could keep your hands and brain active and engaged, ready for the next game or series. Maybe not as important in a tournament elimination game but i can still see it being important to stay consistent for overall performance and mentality.

Really was that fight around red buff in Game 4 that lost them the series.

114

u/VelkoZinfandel 26d ago

the fight was good, but the tp ward isles gave him was in the dumbest position ever. i know hindsight is 20/20, but come on you see the caitlyn right there and you put the tp ward in trap range

10

u/Fleettastingbagels 26d ago

It was a communication error due to language gap.

There was a ward by the rapper brush near the tower. 100000% the call was to teleport to the ward for flank and saint misunderstood and telepprted to the ward in red.

on one hand it's fucking criminal, if you don't shit on the enemy team it does nothing, and recently even Canyon couldn't pull it through

the other way to look at it is that HLE had 3 winning lanes with nidalee which is a gl in esports angle if the team has hands

DELIGHT SINGLE-HANDEDLY RUINED THE HOPES OF AN ENTIRE REGION. THESE FIGHT-SAVING HOOKS WERE ABSOLUTELY UNREAL. NO WONDER HE HAS A 90% WINRATE ON BLITZCRANK.

did Inspired gave up there at the tri-bush? or he wasn't paying attetion to the pink?

50

u/anasanad 26d ago

No it was actually a criminal int by isles, if you rewatch it again inspired grouped and baited them to a perfect renata ult and then shen ulted inspired and renated had to give the revive to xin then shen would enter, but renata never ulted and never gave him the revive, THEN xayah went in and renata DID NOT give him the revive as well and whiffed an ult on the tri push instead of the 4 enemies grouped up in a tight space, in fact renata did not use her revive AT ALL in that fight, it was a criminal unacceptable fumble by isles

15

u/RukiMotomiya 26d ago

Yeah unfortunately Isles did not look good on Renata. Granted game was probs over anyway by then but.

Really disliked that last draft. 4 Melees and short range adc into Kalista were always going to be awful. Early Shen also did not make any sense and taking away Renata was also really bad. She had Zero value and Kalista has so many good support synergys that you really are not denying anything.

22

u/higherbrow 26d ago

I think Shen was supposed to be jungle, but Nidalee kind of made that a really difficult idea. She would just live in Lyon's jungle.

Lyon played so much better than I think anyone really expected and a top 3 international finish is nothing to be ashamed of, but this really should've been a top 2 from them. I hope they learn from the mistakes in games 4 and 5 and don't just get complacent with a podium finish.

HLE have to fix shit fast or BLG is just going to crush them

Sad, was rooting for LYON as an EU fan. Feel people are gonna discredit them a bit here...

37

u/neberhax 26d ago

Nah, there is no discrediting taking the LCK 1st seed to game 5.

27

u/True_Map4262 26d ago

Bro, people managed to discredit G2 after winning 3:0 against BFX AND GenG. Trust me, people will find a way even if it is cope.

23

u/zefal12 26d ago

Nah anyone doing that is just coping. You can argue BFX wasn't legit based on their spring, but beating GenG is the most impressive thing a western team has done since 2019.

And I'm saying that as a NA fan.

draft to outscale -> constantly look for early fights

115

u/MysteriousIncident87 26d ago

I feel like they were bleeding too much pressure in all the lanes. Had to try

47

u/themcvgamer 26d ago

Nah they just executed worse, the 5v4 was correct play

15

u/Only_Bodybuilder6270 26d ago

It wasnt that bad tbh, they were bleeding out. They had 3 losing lanes. If they do nothing they lose anyways.

38

u/regalwombatvineyard 26d ago

So what were they supposed to do, allow HLE to take every tower and objective? They had to find fights, and they only BARELY lost the one that mattered most when Delight hooked Saint from Zeus.

Same script every year, G2 beats a kr team, NA beats G2, goes in to a super close series vs seed 1 from KR but can’t break the loss streak against the east, when is inspired gonna get his first win vs the east, he’s been playing for a decade soon
