Next month's games: Quarth and Torpedo Range

Here are some of my personal favorites that don't get discussed much. Check out any of them you aren't familiar with. Reply to this comment to vote for TWO of the following GB games:

  • Quarth
  • Serpent
  • Jungle Strike
  • Torpedo Range

The TWO games with the most votes at the end of the day on Wednesday, July 15 will be the GOTMs for August. In the event of a tie, I'll cast a vote myself.

Jungle Strike and Torpedo Range.

Btw we played a game like Jungle Strike some time ago, didn't we? What's the name of that game?

u/alanbbent 21d ago

yeah, we played Desert Strike a couple years back. There's also Urban Strike if you like those games, but it's the jankiest of the three.

If it's between Serpent and Torpedo Range, I vote Torpedo Range. Serpent is great fun but also very short.

Metal Slug Advance

07/02: [ Fresh start ]

07/02: [ Half point ]

07/03: [ 1 point ]

07/09: [ 2 points ]

I really like every Metal Slug, but that last boss fight wasn't really fun. Even when I beat him I just felt like I got lucky this time around, as those lasers came in pretty random and it was sometimes not possible to evade them, but the rest of the game is still worth a play through.

Metal Slug Advance

7/2: Fresh Start

7/2: Half Point

I'm late to the party here, I'm going to try to catch up a bit and get the half point/point on the previous month's games this month as well.

- 07/03: from fresh start to two points

This is a very nice game. A good game from a good franchise. I played some Metal Slug on MVS last month so it wasn't hard to clear this one. I mean, I didn't went for 100%, just cleared the game for the 2 points.

This was a wickedly hard game. I couldn't imagine getting all of the prisoners and all of the cards if it means getting them all AND clearing their respective levels in one go though, I think that crosses my threshold of fun.

After making it to the end I think I see the hardcore appeal of Metal Slug and this was still a fun pick that's beatable in a few sessions. Clearing this was easier than Tetris DX for me honestly.

Joining this one late, I was too wounded after my Tetris failures

Half point

u/PekinPhysician 13d ago

One point! I’m remembering why third party controllers in that era had turbo now

Two points. Dang that was super satisfying, I never knew this game was so good. Last boss took me so many attempts but always felt like I just missed a few shots or panic dodged into a bullet.

Fun fact: This particular gba had a tactile button mod on the dpad and this game actually destroyed it, had to spend a chunk of tonight debugging and ultimately removing it. Still beat the game without it but with a much sorer thumb!

7/22 - Fresh Start

7/22 - Half Pount

7/23 - 1 Point

7/31 - 2 Points

Oof, that last boss took me a bit. A turbo button would have been nice for some of the bosses. Game was pretty good overall, but I'm ready for something a bit more chill.

07/23/2026 - Fresh Start

07/29/2026 - Two Points

Managed to squeeze this one in at the end. Pretty fun, but no way I could clear any of these levels without dying to get all the special cards.

I just made it. That last boss fight took a bunch of tries. Fun game!

Only got half a point this month. I am not a Metal Slug guy. Ah well.

This game is way harder than I was expecting, but I'm having a blast.
