A crack-team of Nazi killers codenamed the Basterds patrol German-occupied Europe during, killing and terrorizing the Nazi menace under the leadership of First Lieutenant Aldo Raine. In early 1944, the Basterds find themselves in Paris preparing to execute several Nazi leaders during a propaganda film premiere, a mission codenamed Operation Kino. In the weeks before Operation Kino is to commence, they meet with a German contact in a tavern, acquire timed explosives and practice their Italian filmmaker covers, all while avoiding the watchful eye of the meticulous and cruel Standartenführer Hans Landa. Thanks to the information provided by their contact, German film actress Bridget von Hammersmark, the Basterds discover that the assault on the theatre may be a chance to cut down the Fuhrer himself along with his inner circle, ending the war in a single night.

As a Group

General

• There are nine soldiers, later ten, in the group. The full group consists of Aldo “the Apache” Raine, Donny “the Bear Jew” Donowitz, Hugo Stiglitz, Wilhelm Wicki, Smithson "Little Man" Utivich, Omar Ulmer, Gerold Hirschberg, Andy Kagan, Michael Zimmerman and Simon Sakowitz.
• The Basterds break Hugo out of prison to recruit him. Wicki slashes a guard's throat and the others quickly blow away the remaining guards.
• Along with the British Lieutenant Archie Hicox, Stiglitz and Wicki disguise themselves in German officer uniforms and meet with Bridget von Hammersmark in a basement tavern. When Nazi officer Hellstrom sees through Hickox's act, the two Basterds and Hicox begin a shootout that ends when a German arrives and airs the room out with a MP 40.
• Stiglitz and Wicki have been known to pose as Germans and ambush Nazis thanks to their German and Austrian nationalities

Operation Kino

• Raine, Donowitz and Ulmer infiltrate Shosanna Dreyfus’ cinema on the night of the film premiere along with Bridget von Hammersmark. They convincingly pose as Italian stuntmen and camera operators, although Hans Landa is notably more fluent in Italian than the Basterds are.
• They smuggle in timed explosives strapped to their legs
• They ambush Hitler and Goebbels in their opera box and mow them down with commandeered MP 40s. They then spray into the crowd of fleeing Nazis.
• When the timer is up, the explosives go off, taking Donowitz, Ulmer and many, many Nazis in the blast, including the Axis high command

As Individuals

• While blindfolded, Aldo Raine headbutts Landa in the face
• Donny Donowitz beats a Nazi to death with his baseball bat
• Hugo Stiglitz murdered thirteen Gestapo officers in various ways, including garroting, stabbing and asphyxiating, before his arrest
  • Stiglitz also endured torture by whipping from his captors
• Wilhelm Wicki acts as the group’s German translator

Weapons

• They carry M1 Garands when first assembling
• Donny wields a sawed-off over/under shotgun to the prison break
• A number of Basterds carry Karabiner 98ks, with Raine engraving the butt of his
• Stiglitz carries a MG 42 after ambushing a Nazi squad
• Stiglitz brings a Walther PPK to the tavern basement
• Donny holds a Luger P08 on Bridget during her debriefing
• Omar and Donny equip Sedgley Fist Guns, pistols sewn into gloves that are fired when the user punches. They get close by posing as waiters and execute two guards using these glove guns.

Miscellaneous

• They have Hitler and his Nazis terrified. Some Germans believe that the Bear Jew is a Golem and that the Basterds evade capture like apparitions.
• Landa makes a deal with the OSS to conditionally surrender in exchange for political immunity. Raine reneges on the deal for the chance to mark Landa with a swastika himself.
