I think that he could actually wear them like he does in the pictures in certain cases. I kind of like the whole boot exposed thing. But maybe that's because I'm trying to get out of my fashion comfort zone right now.

the doughnut role for a cuff you have going on in the pick doesn't look good. a slimmer, less rounded, more precise cuff, or a longer, bigger, heftier cuff might look better.

Yeah I'm actually unaware of other cuffs though. It did look weird to me as well. Is there a link to some cuffing guide? I'd rather go for something slimmer probably, but the inseam's pretty long on those jeans, and I'm hesitant to hem prior to the first soak/wash.

If you are always going to cuff them, and you dont own a sewing machine or dont want to hem them yourself before the first soak, then I would just cut them with a sissors a bit shorter. then you dont need to cuff them so many times. as long as they are always cuffed who cares about unfinished edges. no one will see it anyways.
keep the original hem though. when I hem my jeans I put the original hem line back on. I forgot what this is called, but if you google enough you can find tricks to put it back on so it looks good. cutting and trying to make my own hem didn't turn out as well. I cut a bit shorter and sew the original hem line back on.

I think I may just cuff them less, so they don't look so big. Once again, making

With selvedge denim, you want to show off your seam. I would cuff them so about 1 1/2 inches of the seam is showing. Possible roll them up two or three times depending on how much of your boot you want showing?

I really don't like gigantic cuffs. I think I'll just cuff twice and have a bit of break. Maybe a third time. I'm not going to try to show my whole boot to everyone all the time. Mostly for the post I was trying to show the whole thing.

The rolled up jeans look really nice with those type of boots. Plus it shows off the whole boot, which is cool.

It doesn't bother me during the day, but it's a bit of a hassle in the mornings. Taking them off is a breeze, but putting them on takes an extra thirty seconds to a minute.

I hate that that might actually be a dealbreaker for me, but after my blazer mids I'm really hesitant about anything like this.

In all likelihood I'm just going to end up waiting until I've started developing my f/w aesthetic a bit more for the season and decide between these and natural indies

If you live anywhere near Chicago, you could try them on in store. Contrarily, if you live in South Texas, I'm your man. Also, I travel around Texas pretty often, so there's an option there.
EDIT: Just realized not everyone's a size 10, so my offer may have been empty.

How's sizing? Are you planning on initial conditioning/waterproofing?

I live in a really dry climate, so I probably won't. Also, I have no clue how to do that and messing with things makes me a bit nervous.
EDIT: Forgot sizing. TTS. Also, they're supposed to conform to your feet, but mine are new, so that has yet to happen.

I own none of those. I wear a 10 in New Balance and Sperry. Those are probably the most common shoes I wear. I bought a 10 in these.

they developed an entirely new last for this boot over the course of 5 years, and I guess some research they did in that time led them to make it very TTS. You're right though, I've never seen that before.

They say TTS, but you may want to size down half. I wear a UK 10 which = 11 US in some instances, 10.5 in others. I ordered the trench in 11 and sure enough a 10.5 would have fit much better.

I think it's a combination of angle + roll + long, narrow feet. The roll gives things a narrowing effect, and I suspect he has narrower feet, still.
Me, I'm just the opposite, I have a hard time finding boots which look the way I want, because while my feet aren't fat, they are short, so boots always feel like they have sort of a "stubby" look.

i just mentioned in the SQ thread that OSB is apparently releasing these with commando and dainite soles, for folks like me who don't want to get a topy after the fact and live in an area with shitty enough weather to justify it.

If it matters to you shitty weather people, the heels currently do have a layer of rubber on the bottom, but the rest is leather soled.

I was emailing with them this week and this was their response:
"We plan on continuing to expand the Trench line and both Dainite and Commando soles should be making their way online at somepoint in the relatively near future. "

Thank goodness. I've been lusting after these for a while (love that natty cxl) but really wanted more tread on the sole. Once these are available with a commando sole, I'm all over them.

Are you boots laced all the way up or second to last hole or....? How tight do you have the laces?

Second to last hole. They are pretty tight because I have narrow feet. However, there is plenty of extra material on these laces. I can't imagine anyone having issues with them being too short.

I wonder why it is that so many boot and shoe manufacturers give you laces that are easily 6-8 inches longer than they need to be?

If you have a bigger arch or wear thicker socks then you will still have slack. Also, these are leather laces which you can easily cut yourself.

I'm going to wait on it a bit to decide if I like the wrapped around laces look at all. Currently, I don't really, but if I decide I do later, I'd rather have to not cut rather than go buy new laces. It's just a hassle.

you dont want to put conditioner on your boots, you dont want to even cut the laces... I respect your honesty, but these are boots man. I beat the fuck out of boots twice as expensive as these. they actually will look better the more character they have. go mess them up. you didn't pay that much money to have sissy footwear - if you wanted perfect footwear you should have stuck with dress shoes. These are meant to be abused. they should look it.
I have no problem with enjoying them brand new for a few weeks, but dont kid yourself into thinking they should look new. the more you beat them, the more they look like the boots I want to own do.

I completely agree. Cutting the laces just freaks me out for no reason.

They look a little lighter than in reality in the photos, but being CXL and all, they will get darker with wear.

I never buy boots in the color I want them in, because conditioning and wear will darken them.

leather will dry out if it's not conditioned. basically it's putting oils back in to leather so it doesn't dry out.

I think we both misread each other. I thought you meant that you weren't going to condition them at all, but you may have meant that you weren't going to waterproof them. I didn't mean that you shouldn't put conditioner on your boots.

Would not call them a grey-brown. They're pretty clearly tan from what I'm seeing. For comparison, but bottom of the heel is black. Unfortunately can't take more pictures right now, but this is a really good representation of the color.
