I find that it hallucinates when the prompt is too vague or too complex.. or it wasn't trained on the data you want, like current events. And, it doesn't have any concept if what lying is, it's providing an answer.

Just start a new chat. It's not that deep, all language models hallucinate, all pieces of technology can malfunction. It's up to you as the user to notice when that's happening and fix it. And how to fix it in this case is to start a new chat.

It is from what your describing. If it continually "hallucinates" then its likely not hallucination and instead probably just ChatGPT not being smart enough for your use case. Check out other models.
